Ok I'm slow LOL

Sooo...I've been to busy to post much here lately. But I have been lurking around heehee. How did I miss we now had blogs here. LOL!   We have been busy getting the gardens started. Dh is starting to build me a small green house this afternoon!!   So far our onions, garlic, radishes and peas are in. I promised the kids we would start some seeds this afternoon. They love working in our big garden, but also have a small one just for them. Lots of learning fun for little ones.

field trip!!!

i just got back from a school trip to chicago. it was to the field museum and the rainforest cafe. it wasn't very fun at the museum though because we had hardly any time to stop and look at each exihbit. i did like the rainforest cafe! it's so cool because it's roof is all leaves, there's moving robots made to look like animals, and every so often there's a " thunderstorm". they make thunder sounds and flash lights on and off and it's awesome. there was even a waterfall! i spent waaaaaay too muc

Silver Linings

The last week has seen me watch some dear friends pack up their home of 10 years and move to Texas. They got caught in the micro-chip lay-offs a couple of years ago and with a new baby, well, monies have been super tight.   I watched them purge, sort, pack, and purge some more. Not everything fit into the moving van. Those things look huge on the outside but once you start squirreling boxes here and there, it fills up fast.   Suddenly I realized, yet again, how much STUFF we have. I

Dinner at Grandma Mary's

Thursday evening we dined at Grandma Mary's house. This was quite a treat, since it had been many years since I put my feet under her table for a meal. In our family, Grandma's dinners are legendary. When my biological Grandmother died, I was very young and have only a few faint memories of her. Grandpap remarried, and Grandma Mary has been a wonderful blessing to our whole family. There is no evil step-mother in our family. The table is set with the Nortake china, (Fairmont pattern) and Fost

Mama Called The Doctor and The Doctor Said....

Actually the doctor left a message on the phone telling me that yes, the cartladge is torn and that there are "Several other issues" that the Orthpedic doctor will need to discuss with me.   I have been reading and my symtoms match a tear in the tendon, as well the cartledge. My knees (yes both of them) both LOCK UP and Collapse! I have pain no matter what position my knees are in. However, it has been this way for more than 12 years. Prior to my pregnancy with my daughter. I always attribut

Never Too Old for Mama Radar

After a fender bender on April 1 (ironic, huh?) I had to take my car into the body shop this week. Just last week, I had removed the studded snow tires and put on all season radials.   An important sidebar: Last year DH got these fancy rims that didn't need hubcaps. He claimed they were cheaper than regular rims with lug nuts that needed hubcap covering. Whatever. He also said that they needed a special tool and that tool could only be used on those particular rims and nuts. Not as easy as a

Oy Vey!

Why didn't anyone tell me that MRI's are boring, headache inducing, pain making, hellish encounters with modern medicine?   Today I had an MRI on my knee. If the pain in my right knee wasn't bad enough, the left knee after about 5 minutes was soon chiming in, and my back was SCREAMING....MOVE RIGHT NOW... about 10 minutes into the THUMP THUMP THUMP played over and over again for an hour an a half. My entire body radiated the pain of not moving and the pounding noise that urged me to MOVE. Af

Yes, I'm a Mother Hen!

So this weekend, the chicken coop was finished. It's not a coop, my husband says, it's a chicken palace. Big enough to house 20 chickens with room to spare. I would have been happy with a simple shed against the garage, but it's HUGE. Big enough to house the chicken feed, bedding, etc. There's even an overhang for my husband's worm bins.   You want to know why it was finished last weekend instead of tomorrow or next weekend? My dad said he couldn't stand watching one of the chickens hopping

La Petite Poule Rouge (The Little Red Hen)

In Junior High School I was in a play that my French Class did for the younger grades.   I was - La Petite Poule Rouge (The Little Red Hen)   I had to go to all the other characters and ask for help only to hear them say over and over Pas Moi! Not Me!   Now, here I sit, three decades later wondering if I've become a real life La Petite Poule Rouge.   I'm answering myself with those same two little words - Pas Moi!! Surely not!   And yet, I find in my possession a newly ac

This and That

Yesterday I met with the Bishop of my church. Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter-Day Saints.. we are the Mormons.   I don't get food stamps. I 'miss' qualifying by a few dollars (they don't take into account any bills but your basic survival bills). Instead I go to the chuch for food.   About once every month and a half, I put in a food order for a month of food. I make it last a month and a half by extending it with MY food storage items. I don't duplicate what I already have.

About Dr. David Jeremiah

Biography of Dr. David Jeremiah   Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. A scary experience (for us )

We are Not from tornado country, a fact that we are particularly grateful for. Today we are traveling east to Maryland and have been about 20 or 30 min ahead of the weather. This would vary as little voices from the back seat would annouce, I NEED TO PEE!!! A pit stop would happen in short order, after which we would again have a storm on our heels. We stopped in Springfield Mo for dinner and then decided to keep driving awhile before getting a room. We made a stop for gas, all the while lis
