lovinthislife
I bought a cheap dehydrator. I did apple rings, bananas, and onion, (outside because of the smell), and a few tomatoes. The tomatoes stayed good in a bag, but when I went to rehydrate them, they tasted soft, slimy. I threw them away. I don't think I did any of the things long enough. But,is the stuff supposed to taste just like it did when you dehydrated it? Anyway, I sold the thing at a yard sale and am now wondering if I should buy a better machine and try again. I love the idea of it, but I want the stuff to taste good. KWIM? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Link to comment
Violet
My guess is you had a cheapy Ronco type with no fan or adjustable thermostat. If you don't have a fan the food can, and often will spoil before it dries. If you get a good dehydrator the food will taste good. Sure, not like a fresh sliced tomato, but not as you described them to be. Link to comment
Cat
lovinthislife, look through some of the many threads we have on dehydrating here. You should know what to expect, and what kind of dehydrator you might like. I have an Excaliber with 4 trays, and it has a fan and thermostat. I really like it. I just wish I had a bigger one. And no, foods won't be *exactly* like fresh, but you will learn to use them in ways you enjoy them. They're healthy and you know exactly what is on them. Just a few threads to get you started... http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;hl=dehydrator http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;hl=dehydrator http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;hl=dehydrator Link to comment
