  1. Thanks y'all. I found a recipe using maple syrup!! Made three quarts of apple pie filling, dried a bunch of chips, and made apple scrap jelly using the scraps and honey.
  2. My grands can't eat processed sugar and I want to make them an apple pie filling sweetened with honey or maple syrup. Does anyone have a recipe that I can either can or freeze? Thanks!!
  3. Enjoy the baby Jeepers. I'm getting antsy to see my Grands as well. Not had a really productive day today, but making big plans for tomorrow!!
  4. Bless y'all and your parents. Tough issues to deal with. I had a leisure weekend with hubby. Should've been a working weekend, but oh well. He's had a tough row to hoe at work lately and I've been busy too. So we just took it easy. Now, time to make up for it.
  5. I grabbed sandwich on the way home from VBS decorating. DH had leftover squash casserole. We both worked late and in the heat. Both. So. Tired.
  6. ugh. I hate getting gas on me! Glad there were no open flames around. I'm terrible with the gas can myself. I always seem to fling some where it shouldn't be. Usually on me!!
  7. Headed to the church to decorate for VBS. I love doing it! Hopefully we will finish today and tomorrow because we have several new teachers this year and they are decorating their own rooms. I have done the bulk of decorating for several years because so many of the teachers were the Moms, the Sunday school teachers, the summer camp chaperones ... and everything else. They would literally get home from camp Sunday morning, decorate and set up their rooms Sunday afternoon and start VBS Monday. It was asking too much of them. But we have some new folks who are stepping in and it is perfect timing for me and what we have going on at home. My partner in crime and I have taken a set of rooms to designate as a VBS Workroom. There is one big classroom surrounded by four smaller ones. The large room I just painted and we will use it for crafts, etc. One small room will be set up for small child playroom and the other three will be for completed craft storage. The themes rotate and stuff we use this year will be usable again in two-three years. By storing it, we save on money, time, and energy resources and make subsequent years so much easier. Also, by having this workroom, we can begin working on crafts throughout the year while the AC is already running upstairs. This saves on the electric bill, which is so important to our small church. We have been planning this for several years, and are really excited to actually see it come to fruition. The best part is, other ministries will also have access to the workroom as needed throughout the year! These rooms have been sitting empty upstairs for years. It feels good to stop all that waste!!! Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow.
  8. Congratulations!!!! Grand love is just the best!!!
  9. Oh my word!!! $3,750!!! That's a lot. The good news is, we decided to repaint our own. The bad news is, we've only accomplished one closet since that decision was made!!! But the closet looks really good!!!! Unfortunately, it will not hold all the stuff my master plan included for it to hold. OOPS. The good news is, we ... I ... painted one room a few years ago and it's holding up well. The bad news is, we have A LOT of rooms to go!!! Jeepers, we have a whole neighborhood full of your neighbors. Bless their hearts, they must want us to move so badly. I think we have become the people who bring down the property values!!!! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?? Oh well. I won't rehash what got us here, but I will say, we have lovely neighbors who have been so patient with us and supportive of our trials. I know they will be thrilled when we get all these plans off the drawing board and into action!!! So will I, come to think of it!!!
  10. Happy Birthday Miki. Today ... I am finally sitting down again. My grand babies have been here for a week and I am pooped!!! I don't want to move!!!
  11. Gonna party like we're too old to party like it's 1976!!!!
  12. Been on the road with DH and now in our hometown for our 40th class reunion!!! Looking forward to visiting with old and dear friends. We've already reunited with two brothers, a sister and sister-in-law and run into three other friends from various phases of life while out doing our rat killing. Now back at home base (brother's house) and kicked back recovering from the oppressive heat. Making plans for more visiting with family and friends ... and food. First time in a long time DH and I have had a day or two to ourselves. We're having fun, just hanging out and holding hands in the mall. #oldfolksrule
  13. You really had a busy day. Hope you were able to wrap up the weeding minus the swarms today. I'm afraid I've needed a second day to recover. DH worked in the yard this morning, but the heat has finally hit, so he didn't get finished. I'm working on laundry and in the kitchen. But aside from picking up our CSA and a quick grocery store run ... I'm mostly a slug again today!!!
  14. Lazy, lazy day. I spent all week painting at the church, and yesterday put in about 7 hours. Up and down the ladder, up and down the stairs, cutting in and rolling ... I was wasted. So today. Nothing. Nada. Sitting a lot, making plans to catch up on what I didn't get done at home this week!!!
  15. Worked at the church prepping walls and painting. I'm putting together a VBS workroom that has been in the planning stages for about three years. Finally taking action. I'm beat!!! It's looking good, but I think I'm going to have to do two coats. sigh Now I'm sitting in the recliner, because ... old.
  16. Wow. We do good to keep a small bowl in the fridge. We use that liquid gold a lot. It will go rancid on the counter and you lose so much of the nutritional value ... is what someone much more knowledgable than I, said. But yeah, we always had the grease can on the stove growing up too. So I don't guess it will kill you instantly. Just maybe do some long-term damage we'll never know about!!
  17. Made a quick trip to see the grands and get all those hugs and kisses. While I was there, stocked up on some herbs I need for our ailing Old Man, Red Dog. Hope to get a remedy under way that helps soon. DH and I are heading out to meet with his ham radio club for a few minutes this afternoon and stop off at the farmers market. We are depending on other people's gardens until we get back into full gardening swing. But it really has helped us find out what is available locally and create those relationships with like minded folk here. We were able to buy a product in bulk that is not available fresh here, so we've sold some and bartered some. Made enough to cover the cost of a year's supply for us, the kids and grands. So it worked out well. Hopefully we will have enough interest to do it again next year. I hope to get my "pantry" aka large cabinet, cleaned and reorganized this evening.
  18. http://www.mimiandtara.com/dog-diaper-pattern/ Here's a free pattern. Use old towels, sheets, dishcloths, clothes ... etc.
  19. I'll bet you could make your own doggie diapers in a pinch with no sewing.
  20. I just noticed that my gender has changed from female to male somehow ... I'm assuming when I got back from an extended absence and looked through my settings. Either that, or I've been using the wrong bathroom at Target all along!!! #mybad
