  1. Yes, freezing all sorts of things in them. I even remember freezing ham salad in some of the pints. I don't think they make them any more. I'm sure I still have some. BTW. don't freeze anything like ham/bologna salad with hard boiled eggs in it. The eggs come out very hard and rubbery! If I were to do it again I'd mix the ground meat, pickle relish and onions together and add the mayo and eggs after it thawed. The mayo turned the whole mixture white. Edible but not pleasant. Same thing with egg salad...leave out the hard boiled eggs when freezing.
  2. Ya know, I just remembered that I have quite a few of those older plastic freezer boxes stored away. Remember those with the green lids? I know I have pints and quarts but not sure how many. I could use them for soups. Plus they are square so will stack better than round bowls. Its hard to tell what all I'll find in the mysterious second garage in Indiana. Those boxes will be an exciting find though.
  3. I had to go pickup a prescription and stopped by the house. Don't tell I said this but... I think they are done with everything they are going to do. Of course it isn't all done to all of my qualifications, but I never expected it to be. Small things like they used clear calk around a bathroom sink instead of white. Clear doesn't really hide the cracks. Yeah, I'm picky. But nothing I can't either replace or live with. What ever it is, is better than it was. Even before the epic flood! I got most of the Jeep unloaded over there. I had a lot of food and bathroom supplies to carry in. I'm not food stocking but just food that I know I'll be eating while I live there. Mostly canned goods. I unpacked most of it and was ready to put it away when I realized I didn't have any scissors to cut the shelf liner stuff I bought. Sigh. And besides It was getting dark outside and I don't have curtains of any kind up...so I left. Tomorrow I'll go to Wal-Mart to get some junk drawer supplies like tape, scissors, pens etc. so I can get most of the kitchen put together. Oh, and some cheap pot and pans. Dish rags. Dish towels. There goes another list. Most of my stuff became either wet or moldy and I got rid of it. Or else I was anxious to get the good stuff moved while son had the trailer, that I didn't really think too much about leaving things that I would still need. At any rate, I'm going cheap to just get by. I finally went through the many Amazon boxes I have been setting aside. Looked like Christmas all over again in there. I don't think anything got stolen. It really was a help that Amazon tells you when they are shipping and when it's been delivered. I was able to keep up that way. Most of it is for the Indy house so it's going to live in the Jeep and out of the house. Not sure when I'm going back over. I was planning on the 10th. for furniture delivery but there might be an issue with that. The Amish has shutdown through the end of the month to go to Colorado (I think) to go hunting so they closed down shop. LOL. My furniture might be stuck at their place for a couple of more weeks. I don't care one way or the other. I'm in no rush for it. The owner knows I'm flexible. Easy since I'm not living there yet. I'm sure he wants paid though.
  4. I only got a cell phone because I live alone and often travel alone. Basically for safety reasons. Then I found I could text and not have to actually talk to people. Then I discovered the camera. Great for capturing ideas to bring home. I have a couple of games I play that were already on the phone. I have never paid for an app. and I don't ever foresee me paying for any. Now, the main reason I use it for (other than talking to sons) is for LISTS. I have a list for every thing on that phone. Especially for shopping. I keep a running list for that. I also have lists of things to-do and measurements for the Indy house. And prep books I have so I don't buy them again...BTDT. And movies, for the same reason. My only saving grace is that I have all of that stuff on Word documents in a big folder on the computer. I often (not often enough though) copy it all to a thumb drive. I just have to take the time now to get it all transferred back in the new phone. And yep, it's been a pain in the rear! I think I'm almost done too. I never wanted to upgrade. I was fighting it. There are still things I can't figure out how to do like moving things around where I want them and saving contacts. I think the most I lost was my time. And aggravation. But I'm back to the basics and right now I'm not going to fight it.
  5. I want to have "Texas Toast" in the freezer too. Big slabs of garlic toast ready to heat and eat. Good for the Italian tomato-y meals and soups. I keep forgetting about hamburger patties too. The last two times I bought hamburger I forgot about making patties. I'll use kale in the Zuppa Toscana. I love kale. I'll have to check into the soup cubes. I had mixed luck with the silicone cubes when I used them for eggs. They stuck so bad I had to trash the eggs. Only a dozen but still... BUT after I sprayed them they worked great.
  6. Thank you. Awesome ideas. I have meat issues. I like it but only boned and skinned etc. so chunks or slices work great for me. My meat issues are also the reason I have room in my freezer for the meals. I have meat in there. A lot of steaks for summer and chicken breasts. But I didn't really buy the freezer for long term meat storage. I bought it to eat out of continually. That has worked out for me so far because every time I go over there, I eat a pre-made meal or two from it. I can most of my soups but I do plan to have some creamy ones frozen. Creams of Broccoli, Potato and Zuppa Toscana. Oh yeah. I never thought about flash freezing the pancakes and waffles. Will make them easier to separate too. Will also do the corn bread slices.
  7. Not being able to get out, or having to rely on someone else for help, is my motivation too. I don't have a 'plan' for how long that would be. Never really thought about a timeline. But as long as I can stay put, the more comfortable I'll feel. I've been set back in prepping for over a year and it's starting to concern me. I feel like I have a long way to go and a short time to get there now. Sheeesh, is that the Smokey and the Bandit song? Pork chops is a great idea too! I like chunks of pork dipped in 57 Sauce. Don't judge. LOL. I only added freezer stuff that will go in the microwave to mine. But I thought of cole slaw etc. on the side. I want to make up some of those individual corn bread slices to freeze and have on hand too. I found a pan that will make the size I want. Looks like the old Boston Market ones. Corn bread muffins would work too. I also buy the small cups of applesauce and fruit cups. Especially the mandarin oranges and peaches and pears. I hope to make my own apple sauce in half pints this fall. I have a lot of canning 'planned' too. A lot.
  8. Miki, I held off as long as I could too. Stay safe from the storms!!! I'll be keeping a watch on Ryan Hall Y'all.
  9. Good idea about using bags alone. I've seen pictures of them in freezers too. Also a few videos of people putting them together using a stand to hold the bags upright and open. Sometimes, on here, I forget that I'm just cooking for one and the convenience of cooking in one container and eating out of the same container is a major help to me. Less dishes to wash. But most people have a family to cook for. I'm doing it the senior solo way. I 'plan' (I use that word a lot theses days) to use a lot of the stuff already in the freezer to make the meals so that will help with the space. About the only thing in my freezer now is meat. Including a couple of pretty big roasts and a giant turkey. Also some butter. I'll have a dedicated shelf or two for the meals. Some of the meals will go in the house freezer as it is a big one too. And I'm sure some will end up at son's house. Maybe I should adjust the amount of containers down to around 8 each. The Food Saver bags really don't take up any more room. My only issue with them is the cost. The ones that will take up a lot of room will be the round bowls. It would be very nice if I could afford a smaller freezer too. Not in my 'plans' though. Not with everything else I need done at that house first. One word of warning. Label the meals! DUH. I have 3 different kinds of meals in there now and two of them look very similar. They looked different when I put them in there. Now I really have pot luck when I go there. Sometimes tuna noodle casserole and sometimes shepherd's pie. Both are white on the top. One major advantage for me personally will be eating healthier. I can cut way back on the fast food and canned foods and sandwiches simply because I don't know what I want to eat and nothing is cooked up. Having a choice will help...I think. So far the meals I already have take 10-12 minutes from freezer to table. I couldn't drive to town in that amount of time to pick something up. Which reminds me that I need to scale way back on the trips to town when I'm over there!
  10. I just have the Samsung 23 upgraded from the Samsung 11. It isn't too much different except it's a little bit bigger. Only by a fraction of and inch and that could just be the case. That little bit makes a difference to the hand though. But it is noticeably heavier. I few things I can't figure out like how to add a phone number contact, but DIL will do it. On getting a raise!!! I'm sure that will be a big help in theses times. It's great that your hard work is paying off for you! Nice to be acknowledged. And also wonderful news about getting your stepfather situated in a safe place. That has to be a a huge relief too. Not a bad ending to this week.
  11. I've been making a list of some Freezer Meals to stock up my freezer for some hard times ahead. And especially for convenience. Mostly for convenience. I don't like to cook. I have some reuseable trays I got that are nice and heavy but generic ones would work well too. Or even freezer bags. I protect mine with Food Saver bags to help with freezer burn and help prolong their life. I have the single tray portion, the three sectioned one and some bowls. I searched out the freezer sections in the grocery store and online to get ideas. Change things up to suit your own taste! Covid has damaged my taste buds so I'm not the most reliable example. I have typical mid-western taste so south-west and Asian cooking etc. pretty much eludes me. I'm going to try with the enchilada and chow mein though. I'm not a big meat eater except when it's shredded or chunked so I have a number of casseroles. A fried chicken dinner would be nice too or chicken fingers. I don't care for fish but fish and chips would be good. I added some fish sticks for G-son. PLEASE, if you can think of some more combinations post them. I can't actually start making them until I get moved but I'm trying to plan ahead. I know this is a LOT of meals! I really do. And I do not expect to have them all at one time. But wouldn't that be nice. I do lots of big batch cooking so it is very likely that I could fill one bowl or tray of 10-12 at one time. Especially with a big pot of beef and noodles or chicken and noodles or chili. Plus I will share them with son's family. I just took a screen shot from my Word Document. Some are a little blurry. If you have trouble reading it, let me know. My containers. I ordered a couple of times and sometimes they were on the 'lightning deal' thing for half off! They are very sturdy and I figure I can use one at least 5-6 times. I fill the tray, cover with plastic wrap, put the lid on, use a Food Saver bag. Over-kill I suspect. But I plan on them being in the freezer for awhile and food is expensive. Amazon.com: Freshware: Meal Prep Containers
  12. Miki, that is a good idea but we have multiple police jurisdictions in this area. Each little suburb has their own police department. There are easily 5-6 districts right in my immediate area. It's hard to describe unless you live in the same area of a big city (Cleveland). Each little town has a City Hall but our courthouse is in downtown Cleveland. I never am sure which town I'm in when I'm out shopping unless I happen to see a sign. Literally, one side of the street is one town and the other side of the street is another town. It took me a long time to get used to that. But when I did, it's really nice because all of the little places have their own shopping and libraries and food places etc. In Indiana I was used to driving 10+ miles to go to the next town. Littlesister, No one turned it in at the front desk. I checked all around the outside of my car. Even backed out of the spot and looked. I totally emptied out my purse a number of times thinking I missed something. Also checked my 2 coat pockets. It isn't in there. Plus the phone is big and hard and hard to miss. There isn't an 'under' the bed in hotels. They are platforms. Probably so we can't hide dead bodies under them. LOL But I did check around it incase it fell out of my coat pocket. It isn't in the room either. I really think it fell out of my purse someplace because I never just set it down anywhere. So, I spent almost 3 hours getting a new phone. Misery. There was a family of 3 doing all sorts of upgrades and transfers etc. ahead of me and only one person waiting on everyone. He was not a multi-tasker. Then we had to wait for the safe to open. But it's done now. I had to do an upgrade which I didn't like. The phone is a tad bigger and a lot heavier which I don't like. But it isn't too different and nothing I can't figure out...I think. What I can't DIL will when I go back over. Of course everything is lost from the phone but most of it is backed up on the computer so I just need to type it all back in. I did find a new app I like. It's a radio app that has all kinds of Old Time Radio programs playing 24/7. Right up my alley! I saved 17 stations. Now I can keep the phone plugged in when I'm at the houses and listen to stuff. Also other real radio stations that I like are saved too. I REALLY like talk radio. I guess it's similar to iHeart Radio? It's free with no sign in. "My Tuner, Radio, Podcast, Music, Songs" That alone was almost worth the hassle. Almost. We must have had a little freezing rain last night because I had to scrape the car windows off today. Because it took soooo long at the phone store, I didn't get to go purse shopping or go pick up my Amazon shirts at the house. I was too tired. But I still have a Jeep full of stuff for the house that I need to get out and put away because some of it is food and will freeze out there. But tomorrow is another day.
  13. Thanks Becca_Anne. I all but tore the car apart. It can't get in the crack of the seat because I use the cheap one piece seat covers from Wal-Mart. I thought I might have braked too fast and threw it forward off of the seat. Nope. Under the seat? Nope. All I discovered was that my car is filthy. Sigh. I'll go get another one tomorrow I suppose. I'll have to figure out a new phone and try to get info back in it. I'm also going to try to find a new deeper purse. I'm thinking it fell out of mine. I never liked that purse anyway.
  14. Sorry your shoulder is acting up again. Front desk would call it but I'm sure it isn't in here. It's always in my purse, jacket pocket, on the bedside table charging or right beside me. Not much room for it to be missing in here. Sometimes I leave it in the car by mistake. I looked last night but didn't see it. I'll scour it in a few minutes when I leave the room. Now that I think of it, I'm sure it isn't at the house because I had a call on it on the way back from the house. If it isn't someplace in the car then it fell out someplace while I was doing errands. I hate losing things like that. I have so much important business info in it because of the house issues plus lots and lots of lists. And G-son stuff. Nearly 99% of it is also on my computer so not a lot will be lost forever. But it's going to be a pain in the butt if I have to start all over and transfer it all back in. A new phone will be an upgrade and I was hoping to delay that until I get moved. I really don't want to learn anything new right now. I do not find that exciting. I emailed my project manager and some family to alert them to email me if they need me.
  15. Littlesister, sorry to hear about your neighbor. Prayers for his family, loved ones and friends Project Manager called and said he thinks there is an issue (of course there is) with the hot water heater and wondered if I could go check if there is any hot water. There isn't. So a plumber is going out today. He wanted me to check because they are 2 hours away. No problem for me to run by. I had a look around. I was so surprised by how much of my stuff is still in the house. I thought I had it cleared out better. But they piled stuff in the one bedroom from some of the little rooms so they could lay carpets and seeing a lot of it in one place made me realize I have a lot more work to do inside it house. Plus that garage. I'm not complaining though. That house has come a long way and I'm grateful. Just getting that basement cleared out... In the meantime, I have misplaced my phone. Dang it. I did a quick scan around last night and it wasn't where I always put it. Sigh. So if I didn't happen to have left it at the house then I'm going to have to buy a new one. I don't want to. I don't want to have to figure out a new phone right now plus lose the stuff I had programed in. And $$$. Hope it's at the house. It's starting to get cold here now. But, even though it's January we still haven't had any snow and for the next week we are staying in the mid 30's with a couple of 40 degree days. I went food shopping yesterday. Prices were horrible but I got enough for the hotel and a good stock up of canned and condiment supplies of food for the house. Whenever I'm ready to go over there it will be ready except for refrigerator foods. I think I need a skillet and a pot too. Will check out Dollar Tree/General for that stuff. I feel like a little bird getting ready to fledge. Standing on the edge of my little nest flapping my flabby old wings. <== Jeepers I bought a few things to get the bathrooms set up too. Shower curtain and bath mat etc. I want it to look nice but I'm not decorating. I forgot drawer liner but I'll get that today. I have to go back over tomorrow for another Amazon order. I finally got my long sleeve tee shirts ordered. I nearly made a mistake with them though. I started to order from Michaels but when I looked at the shipping I nearly choked. Eight tee shirts for $80.00 just for shipping! I saw it just in time. Anyway, I ordered from Amazon for free shipping and the price was even lower. Same Gilden shirts. Two days and they will be here. Actually tomorrow. I also put in another med order that I said I wasn't going to do. I was stunned by the look of the shelves in the medical area in both Wal-Marts I go to up here and also at Meijers. Very low and picked over. None of the 3 stores I went to had the Debrox ear cleaning solution. Doctor recommended by both GP and ENT doctors, BTW. They had some of the boxes with the irrigation bulb included but I don't need that. Not earth shattering but still. Will try a regular pharmacy. I don't need it. Just want to have it on hand. Also no Flonase or Afrin nasal sprays anywhere either. Not a need but a want. Of the 'meds' I wanted to order online, of the five I was interested in, only one was available. They said there was a "National Shortage" I believe it. I'll check back in with them occasionally. I wasn't about to add my name to a list to be notified!
  16. There were tsunami evacuations and fortunately they ended rather quickly. Very scary for those people. On the Jan. 1st. we had an earthquake in the county east of me. 2.2 For a year I lived about a 2 hour drive from Nagasaki, Japan. Atomic bomb. 1945.
  17. What Mother said. And I didn't even notice that until she said it.
  18. Littlesister, that gas leak scares me. Any little spark could set it off causing an explosion. Including flipping on a light switch or opening and closing a garage door. Could you call your gas company? Please don't delay on that one. I've been seeing a couple of house explosions in the past few months. Michigan House Explosion Kills 4, Injures 2 Others (people.com)
  19. A 7.6 Earthquake hit a couple of hours ago. A tsunami warning was issued and some people have been evacuated. Praying for the people and...sigh, their nuclear reactors.
  20. Well, Yeee-Haw, Y'all. I made vanilla last year too and I'm not a baker either. But I've got six little bottles now. I reused the beans too. They say you don't need to use as much with the real stuff. Not sure. Another thing I have going is a couple of half gallon jars of vanilla sugar. That stuff is good on everything. Cereal, oatmeal, coffee, tea etc. VERY expensive in the stores and usually made with artificial vanilla flavor. Mine is cheap and easy made with cane sugar and Bourbon Vanilla Beans.
  21. Thank You! Home Free gives me goose bumps. So lovely.
  22. Insurance renewed me for another month. I may or may not use it all but it's nice to not be rushed. I'll stay here as long as there are still men in the house working. I can get all of my stuff in one Jeep load now with no problem. I've taken the past couple of days off relaxing and recuperating from the creeping crud I came down with by making lists. Lots of lists. I'd be lost without them. Memory and focus are not my strong points. Who knew. I have a pretty long canning list now. I might not get everything done on it but it's a goal to shoot for. I have a year to get it done. Some will have to wait until gardens come in so It doesn't have to get done all at once. Then I have a list for making homemade freezer TV type dinners. Those should be easier because I won't have to wait on gardens or canners etc. I already have the containers. I didn't make a list for dehydrating. There are only a few things I need in that department. Mostly celery. I'd like to try some cherry tomatoes maybe. I made a list of all the high points I want to give to the realtor to concentrate on when selling the house. I made a list of what I want a handyman to do in Indiana. It's a short list to be done as money allows. Actually lot of things but they are small jobs that I'd like done over just a couple of days to keep from hiring a guy multiply times. One trip. I'm putting off some of the canning recipes I downloaded. I need to write down all the recipes in a Word document to be printed out. I'd like them to be 'recipe card printed out ready.' I don't wanna do it. But I will. Of course everything has to be just so-so.
  23. HAPPY NEW YEAR! May we all have a very healthy uneventful year. I have my celebration all ready. Drove to the corner to Dunkin Donut and got a BIG honkin' iced, pumpkin pie spiced latte...with whipped cream, and it is the freezer as we speak getting all frosty chunky. I just hope I stay awake long enough before it freezes solid. Life in the big city.
  24. Your "just construction" is just as hard on you personally as my issue is to me. Your pain is just as big to you as mine is to me. That probably didn't come out right but we all suffer in some way. I think we could all benefit from some group therapy here. Could you imagine that poor therapist! =>
