  1. Storm, smorm,, I'm quacking like a duck.....Speaking of ducks,,,, DARLENE, HAVE YOU CHASED ANYMORE DUCKS LATELY?????
  2. BUBBLES, BUBBLES, BUBBLES........(SO SAYS NEMO)
  3. Tis true, Tis true. Slgrubbs,,, It can be dangerous,, I make my kids stay away, until I get done,, the smell of it helps to run them off, they think it stinks...LOL.. Hopefully I will find some time to get back to my soap making this week...
  4. I want to make some more soap so bad, just haven't had a chance,,, hopefully next week I will be able to do some...spider,, have you been up to no good again,,,,
  5. It is best to use plastic or anything that isn't metal, some metals can cause a chemical reaction to the lye,, and that ruins your whole batch and your metal pan.....
  6. Ihave just been wrapping mine in plastic wrap and storing it on a dark shelf in the bathroom closet... and I have made 4 batches so far..the first one was also crumbly.. I used some of it the other day to do some laundry,, did great,, and also bathed in some,,, I loved it... but I guess it would be just fine to store it in a plastic tote... I don't see why not.. as long as it has been through its curing...
  7. Thanks Snowmom,, I think me and Slgrubbs has become addicted to soap making all of a sudden... and Slgrubbs to answer your question.. I am just wrapping mine in plastic wrap and storing in on the shelf in a dark closet, in my bathroom
  8. I also hope to get another batch of soap made this week,, don't do while dh is home, he makes me nervous and ends up ruining it... so hope and prays he goes to work so I can get back to work on my soaps....
  9. When you find the mold that you want to use, place a plastic bag in the bottom of it, make sure the bag doesnt' have print on it, or it will transfer to your soap,,, tupperware plastic containers are perfect and will not melt... The coconut oil should be with your regular cooking oils and shortenings,, It should be in a round (cylinder style), container,, it looks like shortening,it is not of oil consistency.....The only place I have found it in my area is walmart,,, so if you haven';t been there, it is probably your best bet... and one container will do about 3 small batches of soap.....good luck in finding it, you can also order it online.....
  10. I just used a glass measuring cup...
  11. Iknow it is addictive,,, I never thought I would have so much fun, as I do making soap, next on the list is candle making.... hope to get another batch of soap going this afternoon.... I have already had 2 offers of people wanting to buy my soap,,, I told them once I get it perfected Iwill think about selling it.. But not ready to go public with it quite yet...
  12. SLGRUBBS, TRY THIS SOAP RECIPE: I JUST FOUND THIS ON THE NET, AND HAVE MADE 2 BATCHES OF IT TODAY, IT IS REALLY EASY, AND DOESN'T SMELL AS STRONG AS THE OTHER... COCONUT OIL SOAP 6 OZ. coconut oil 6 OZ. olive oil 5 OZ. vegetable shortening 2.6 OZ lye 1 cup water Dissolve lye in 1 cup water. In separate container warm all fats to 125* F. Once fats hit the 125* mark, add the lye/water. I let mine thicken for approximately 45 minutes, even though the recipe calls for 1 hour 15 minutes. This set up beautifully. Pour in mold, and cover with towel for 48 hours, then place in freezer for 3 hours, then place on a shelf for 4 weeks to cure.....
  13. Okay Ladies, I made my first batch of homemade soap this afternoon...I did the trace for approximately 50 minutes, mixture still seemed a little dry... have it molding now. Will try and make another batch tomorrow...

  15. Everyone thanks for the prayers for JB, but sad to say,he lost his mother this morning....He is in very bad shape right now, but does have his wife, kids and other family there to help support him.. Thanks again,..
  16. everyone, I have a friend on another forum who could really use some prayers right now.. His name is JB.. he is having marital problems, his sister was just killed about 3 weeks ago by a drunk driver, he has had to adopt her son, because he is the only one to care for the child...and then his mother was in a car accident and had a nervous breakdown and now she is in the hospital with pneumonia.. He wrote me yesterday saying that he is scared that he isn't going to make it... I talked with him for quite a while yesterday.... He lives in NC but had to fly to Maine to be with his mother, which meant he had to leave his wife and two daughters alone for such a long period of time... He is about at the end of his rope, he is worn out, and stressed...prayers for this poor boy would be appreciated....
  17. This could only happen to Poor Darlene,,,,LOL... sorry Darlene, I hope your alright , but this story is hilarious!!!!
  18. Well I guess I am about as ready as I can get, I made strofoli today for dessert, along with the pumpkin, pecan, mince meat pies and fudge and peppermint bark that I already made for dessert... 19. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO SNOWMOM, AND TO ALL OF MY WONDERFUL FRIENDS HERE AT MRSS....STAY SAFE AND HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY
  20. Here in southeast Tenn. all we had was rain and cold, cold, cold.....maybe next time....If your dh has to leave out late evening, he needs to be careful, even though the roads were ok earlier, anything on them now will freeze back over this evening, when the temps drop.... I was looking at NOAA just a bit ago, they had it down that our high today was going to be 43,,,WE HAVE NOT BEEN OUT OF THE 20*S ALL DAY!!!! How do they figure we are gonna warm up over 20 degrees this late in the evening?????
  21. You lucky boogers you, here in southeast tenn. looks like we will get nothing but sloppy rains AGAIN..... WEll I guess I have got to get off my backside and get to doing some more cooking, I guess our guest will make it after all, since snow is not going to be a problem here... I still have about 3 batches of candy to make and then will just go to cleaning and straightening up the house... I can't wait for the holidays to be over, then maybe we want all be so busy and can get more time in the forum. I meant to come to chat monday night, but by the time I got through wrapping presents it was midnight...so missed it again.. Everybody have a good day, and if you are beginning your travels, take care and be extra careful, and can't wait too hear how everyones holidays go,,,,
  22. Try taking the pots outside in the sun, and spray them with Easy off oven cleaner, and let them sit for a couple of hours..then scrape off the goo, and wash really well in hot soapy water. I do this with my roasting pans from time to time...
  23. Welcome Lilly, I am from Southeast Tennessee, apparently we will not get in on that snow deal this time. We may get a flurry or a little frozen precip, but nothing to worry about...Welcome to MrsS. and keep us informed on this big snow....
