I would like to add something to this (and hug Hill and thank you for posting it)

If you would like to do something in Carla's memory.. buy her book! If you already have one... buy one for a friend!

of all the books I have, "The Encyclopedia of Country Living" by Carla Emery is my most used and valued book!

Thank you for posting this Hill,

I had not heard this and I feel terrible about it. I actually got to meet her many years ago when her book first came out and I have one of the first of her books. She sent them out as chapters when she first started writing it and they were put in a binder as you got them. I also have one of her paperbacks but it is almost in shreds, I will certainly buy another and probably more than one so that I can give them as gifts. Carla was truly a beacon for all who wanted to be self suficient and she will be sorely missed.

I would and have reccommended her book to anyone who has a desire to learn about country life. There is no better manual that I know of, and I have lots of them, that covers so many subjects in one book and does it with humor, love and sensitivity.
