The WE2's
Two truck loads of chicken were at a local shopping mall selling chicken by the cases. We bought 20# of grill chicken chunks for $30. Emptied our wallets :-) Then came home and "made" room in the deep freeze and frig freezer at the Homestead and some more room here in this frig.freezer for vacuum sealed bags of this pre-cooked, grilled chicken chunks. It will be wonderful for chicken soups, casadillas, stir fry ... you name it! Love the idea of being to get it stored quickly and not having to start up my canners in this hot weather. The WE2's
For those of you who may not have watched any of her videos (they're a bit old) you might enjoy Cindy DeWitt's seminars on canning, dehydrating and vacuum sealing foods. Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
When we get re-located to the Homestead property I'm looking forward to dehydrating under the canopy of the back patio. I also have on my wish list a propane stove that I can do some canning out there also, which will be really nice. As long as it's not raining or too windy, it will be nice to not have the house heat up. Quote Link to comment
Cat
Is that Wendy DeWitt? Hadn't seen those yet... I really like my FoodSaver. They have new bags now that you can freeze stuff in, and then just pop them in the microwave to cook/reheat. They automatically open vents to let the steam out. I want to try them this summer before LilDD goes back to school. I can cook her some "home-cooked" meals for her to eat there. If you sign up for their newsletter, you get emails about their "deals". I bought those special bags and some regular rolls in a good deal.... I'm pretty sure it was buy-one-get-two-free. They were trying to get people to try them. Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Yes. I've watched her too. Love Youtube and I also love my Food Saver. I got some of those bags too Cat but haven't used them yet. I have vacuumed so many things this year. I have some of those 2 (I think) gallon buckets and I vacuum sealed some mints, dark chocolate bars, lots of chewing gum (on sale), Kool-Ade packets (on sale) and some other goodies. I got a lot of stuff in that little bucket. It's my 'dire emergency' bucket. Quote Link to comment

Ambergris
They stopped making the Deni Jar Vac, it seems. Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
They stopped making the Deni Jar Vac, it seems. We've searched and searched and we can't find it either :-( But...when we bought our vacuum sealer we bought both sizes of the vacuum lids and a box of 3 sizes of the canisters. The only time I've ever used the canisters is when I'm re-sealing (for the frig) pickles, relish, olives, salsa etc. I hate pitching good food! Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Vacuum sealed two large bags of bell peppers/onion blend, kept two in the frig freezer here to use with our breakfast potatoes, sealed six bags of fries, and three large bags of tater tots. Most are headed to the homestead's upright "meat" freezer. I don't mind peeling potatoes but raw onions take me a lot longer to cook. I like the raw ones for stews etc. 1 Quote Link to comment
