WHATCHA DOING TODAY?

Recommended Posts

I'm using baby shampoo & water daily now.  The DE wasiterally a washout with our frequent rains & heavy dews.

The usual "last week before payday" gremlins has showed up again.  He broke my specs AND my spare pair so I have geek strips applied until I can order new ones.   He also killed our AC unit so we're using 2 window AC units & box fans til we can get warranty repairs going.  85 degrees felt quite cool after doing 99 F inside ( and out) with 80% humidity.  We got it to 75 degrees ANF are pleased with that.

Darn pre-payday gremlins!!!

112,899 acres now burning.

Home safe.  I could see the haze from the fire in Tucson and columns of smoke rising in the mountains from home.

Sorry about your gremlins, Kappydell. I hope you get things worked out quickly.

Todays plan is to unpack, do laundry and get back on my routine.

TY Annarchy.  I notice the gremlins only show up when we commit monies ahead of time.  In this case we are helping a friend by giving them $2000 on the 1st to help keep their home.  Normally that would make things tight, but not too bad.  I remember wondering about that old saw "no good deed goes unpunished" when we decided to do it.  Then Mr Gremlin showed up.  Oh well.  He isn't going to stop us from going thru with helping our friends, just pinch things a little extra.  Worth it. (So there, Mr Gremlin!   I told Mary if she sees a grease spot in the middle of the family room carpet its because I caught him and squished him. He'll make good fritters for the dogs.)

No xylitol for me!  Warned DH about it a couple years ago.  The sweetener does say maltodextrin (sugar) and stevia extract.  Also says zero calorie and less than one carb.  Thanks for the charts!

The serving size is going to be tiny so that there's a smidge less than 0.5g carbs in it, as that's where they have to declare it as 1.

Lots of rain here.  No serious storms but enough rain to strangle a toad!  Hubby's had to put our bathroom project on hold...again...one of our dear friends is selling out and moving to Louisiana to be with her kids and grandkids.  Boy do I hate to see her go, but I know she'll be happier there.  It's her stomping grounds and has not only family but lots of friends there too.  She needs some ceiling work done in her kitchen, some ceiling fans repaired/replaced, new kitchen counter in the upstairs apartment and some upstairs apt. plumbing work.  Our other friend is still putting things together to get herself moved in the basement of the little house she bought.  Other friend is slipping badly and may have to go into assisted living...she's fighting dimensia.  Another male friend is slipping badly also, and another male friend we can't seem to find so don't know where he went to.  His health was he may have had to move to his son's or he may have passed.  Then another couple of our friends, he's just getting over cataract surgery and will not be going in for back surgery the 8th.  We'll need to see if she's going to need help while he's recovering.  I am so thankful for God's grace on our health that we can help...even if we have to put our needs on hold.

My little tomato plants (in pots) have lots of blooms and even one tiny little 'mater forming!  They're just an experiment but I'm loving it!  Got some mint planted in the front yard easement...and have several more sprouting in a mason jar in my window that I'll transplant there also.  Neighbors can just take a hike!  I'd much rather mow mint than grass/weeds.  Did some weeding in the wild garden, too much broad leaf dock.  The Echinacea is forming blooms, the comfrey is going great guns!, the Mullein is doing great, but of the larger ones did take a beating from the hard rains and winds.  Pulled tons of wild lettuce from our garden area as well as the wild garden.  The blackberry bush is loaded.  I've already eating a few...LOL  We've got them covered with netting from the birds but I saw 3 Japanese beetles on the fence row after some of the older plants, so had to fill my sprayer with Neem oil and biodegradable dish soap...and gave them all a good spray...then it rained!  I'll need to spray again tomorrow.  The Elderberry has several nice blooms so I'll need to give them a spray also.  Hate those stupid beetles!!!  The flowers are so pretty.  Haven't seen bees hovering but I can't believe they're not.  My hummy feeders keep going dry but I never see the little critters flying around and/or drinking...whatsup with that?  I thought at first it was the wind blowing them...???  Hubby did make a stop at another client's this morning who needed some light bulb's replaced with LED's so he picked up a few dollars and 3 big boxes of books.  The authors he loves to read, so it's a real treasure when this gentleman gives him the ones he's read.  I think I'm going to start collecting older "history" books.  I have a very old set of Encyclopedia Britannica's (sp?) that I've kept for over 40 years.  At the rate our world is going I fear true history will be something we may not ever be able to read about. And "normal" will be something of the past.

Good idea!  We have a set from.....'84?  And I have a partial set from early 1900s.  Interesting!  The science can be kinda wacky but the history is closer to the events that happened.

I simply CANNOT figure out where my days are going.  I'm running late every evening.  'Course part of it is the long daylight.  That does throw me off.  I'm trying to work on more of Compressed Pop.  but it's not gonna happen this day.

I have been out walking every evening...but it doesn't take long.  Except tonite one of our newer neighbors was out picking up some cut wood and I stopped to talk with Koa.  Then DH comes to see if my legs gave out so then we're all talking.  Then the guy's wife drives the car down their driveway to see if he's ok.     We ended up telling Critter Tales....  He saw a wolf recently.  I'd seen one some years ago.  Hmmm....  So then we all talked about protection from critters and   :gathering:   I wish we had been sitting.  Could barely walk when we parted ways .....and I sure wasn't going to finish my half mile.  :grinning-smiley-044:

Then DD2 called and we had a good talk.  So I think with several very long calls these past days and a neighbor chat and.....   I guess that's where my time is going.  I've had a social life!  ;)

MtRider  ...chilly tonite!

That's a huge fire now!  How long til monsoons?  Too long, probably.

DH gets his hearing aids fitted tomorrow. Yay! Have to quit mumbling under my breath but hopefully can finally quit yelling to have a conversation!

Had to buy new sheets today. Little dog had torn the fitted one with her claw and instead of fixing it, I let it get bigger. That part is my fault. Also, did laundry, hard boiled eggs for tomorrow and packaged some grapes for tomorrow. Eating fast food is just not an option for me. Ready for bed now and it is a little early. LOL

The fire went north into the Tonto Ntl. Forest, they are still trying to keep it away from the dam at Roosevelt Lake.

We are miles south of the southern section.

I hate to hear about your friends with dementia We2. So much of that now. Is it because we are living longer or what? Sigh. One of my cousins was just put in a nursing home because of it. She has a lot of family but she just can't be trusted any more. She was always the sweet quiet one of all of us cousins. She's 70-ish.

I don't know where the time is going either. This year is nearly half over already. It's crazy. And the extended daylight has confused me more than once this year too. I never really noticed it like this before.

I hope your HD hearing aids help him. Probably open a whole new world for him.

Such a massive fire! :(

Thank God you are safe.

My days and nights are all messed up again. I need to run errands but I keep sleeping through them and I'm so tired when I wake up. I end up sleeping on my back and then my mouth hangs open and I snort awake and my mouth gets so dry it hurts to swallow. I don't know how I can drool so much with such an arid mouth.  Sleeping Beauty!  Not. Anyway, it's time to dig out the Ambien and get straightened out again. I'm anxious to get started back up packing again. I have a load to take to the Salvation Army again if I can just stay awake during the day long enough.

for Jeepers  :hug3:    I'm back to wrong schedule too....going to sleep 2 or 3AM.  Then up too early and not well rested.  I was doing so good but now I'm rushing to finish everything in these short evenings and STILL....it's 2AM.

I say leave the clocks alone!  Then my watch would be right 12 months of the year instead of half that.

Awake at three, up at four.

Got a first-stage denial of the DC-DC charging cord and of the power supply for my APAP.  Was looking up the rules and realized I was in the 2017 booklet.  Looking for the new one.  Sigh.

Bright sunny day, here again.  Forecast says 100-110*F for the rest of the week. Yeah, it’s summer in the desert.

The garden is surviving, tomatillos, carrots, jalapeños, tomatoes, and the spices, seem to be hanging in there.  Fava beans, I’m holding out hope they survive until the monsoon season brings us some rain, maybe they will produce more than the handful we got. I know I planted them too late, so, all the seeds collected are for next years garden. Of all the spices, the mint is withering.  It has mostly shade, and is watered daily. Meh, if it survives, I’ll be grateful. The 4 corn stalks actually look good.  IDK if we will get any ears, because the stalks are 2-4 foot apart. 60 seeds = 4 stalks. :008Laughing:Typical for my yard.

Been busy catching up from this months trip.  DH said he’ll go next month. :hapydancsmil:However, he has asked me to finish & replace the waterbed frame.  :0327: It is a simple design, but, I need to get new plywood for the platform. The boards on our current bed are over 40 years old and creak whenever we move.

Sorry your internal clocks are wonky. MIL mentioned that TX wants to stop the time change thing.  I know I have trouble when I go to TX. AZ doesn’t change.  Feels funny to be ready to sleep at 7pm, or waking up at 3am wide awake.

Mowed the lawn and trimmed the hedges yesterday, then, got supplies. I needed weed eater string. Today, I hope to edge the yards.

What a difference DH's hearing aids make! So much better! He can adjust the volume on his phone and I think answer the phone through the hearing aids. Went to a thrift store in the same town and did well. Came home and trying to get used to not yelling anymore. Not as easy as I thought.

Just realized that my docs office scheduled my next appt. on a Friday.  They are not even there on Fridays and this is for July 5th--during the Holiday.  Will try to get it fixed tomorrow.  They will say that it is my mistake (must have written it down wrong) but after the last "mistake" I saved the card they handed me.

:hapydancsmil: for Mr. Miki!

I'm so happy for him.

We finally had a whole day with no rain. Don't know about the rest of the week though.

I thought I have been paying my water bill often. I got another one in the mail today. I haven't paid last month's yet because it isn't due until July 2st. The one I got today is due July 10th. I will have to give someone a stern talking to tomorrow.

   Just think, Miki.  You might not use so much energy if you can now talk at normal tones.   Very happy they work for your dh!!!!  :amen:

Hope you got the breathing device operating correctly, Ambergris.

What in the world in going on with your water bill, Jeepers?  Have you got two companies?  It's the season of WATER troubles for you!

I went to bed by 12:30 last nite.  :cheer:  ..........and woke frequently towards morning, raising the head of the bed more each time.....cuz I had a Nasty HEADACHE!!!  OW!   Finally got up at 7:30AM  [STILL not 8 hrs! Hmph!] and ate, took Nuprin, paced cuz standing up is the best...ONLY way I can get rid of them.  Closed up any hole leaking the BRIGHT morning light in.  HURTS my head so bad ...the piercing light.  Couldn't even read cuz of light.  So pacing....pacing.  Walked my half mile in living room/kitchen!!   But it did recede slowly.  After a couple hours I was able to be on bed with the head raised straight up.  AND it was COLD!  I kept putting more layers on.  Second Nuprin and allergy pills and by about 10am I was in pretty good shape.  :amen:    Had DH adjust me ....we kept forgetting.  But only my very top neck vertebra was out...and the hips.  Top and bottom.  E-Z.  Rested and then was fine.

We picked up my mom and went out to eat.  Brought a catfish dinner back for my dad and left again.  My mom wanted to chose some readers at Walgreens.  Then...with renewed [borrowed?] energy, I decided I could make a trip to thrift store.  Whew!  My mom and I have a contest to find the Most Outrageous clothing.  Whew!  Lotta that!  :008Laughing:  I tried on dozens of tank tops and a few scrub pants.  Got a number of tanks but no pants.  All mine are so long and I don't see hemming in my future.   I just tuck them into my socks around the house.  But now I can throw a LOT of old raggedy tanks into the rag bag.  Finally.  Just haven't been ABLE enough to go.  DH was happy sitting in their book nook with coffee and reading.  Even bought a couple books.  Escorting us shopping isn't his favorite thing but better than either of us driving.  :o .....

Full day.  Lunch leftovers for supper.  E-Z

Well dang, I read the bills wrong. They are exactly the same except one says Cleveland division of water and the other one says Cleveland division of sewer. Same size same color and same printing. I'm glad I saw that before I called! Guess I was the only one I gave a stern talking to today. I also get a water bill from my city. Pfffft.

Sorry you had such a headache this morning. Nasty things.

I'm getting ready to go run some errands since I'm finally up and at em. Bills to pay, mail to mail and food to buy. I need to go to Office Max and return a binder. I hate to return stuff. It is a huge 5 incher and still too small to hold all of my quilt patterns. I'm going to try two 4 inchers instead. The 5 inch one is super heavy so I guess two will be better for me anyway. Then I can store all of my craft patterns in one place. I ran out of sheet protectors so I still have to print off about 20 more.

Then swing by the Salvation Army and unload. I'm getting rid of some of my décor and some more of my kitchenware doo-dads. Probably later tonight I'll make a run to the paper recycle bin. I'm over flowing again. A lot. And I need to break down some bigger boxes I don't want. Too heavy.

Stop off at the Subway for a spicy Italian. They have one in Wal-Mart. I'll just roll over there. I have to get "you-know-who" a birthday card anyway. Next time I'm in Indy I'm going to get him his first bike. Sigh.

Later tonight I'd like to get all of my media packed up. Tapes, cd's, dvd's etc. They should all fit into a medium/large size tote. They are so dusty. It's going to take me longer to clean them than to pack them. Crud, I just remembered some more in another room. I'm going to be ruthless though.

Made a dump cake for DH and one for a funeral Saturday. Dropped the second one off at Church fridge. Went to Courthouse to make sure I can keep check from jury duty (I was dismissed for DH's doc appt). Made picadillo for the next few dinners for DH and room mate. Weeded in garden.

Doctor appt. is supposedly correct. They started opening again on Fridays for half day. NO mistake!

I've been reading a lot of about minimalism lately.  Hardly goes with prepping, but I love the feel of the rooms that have very little in them.  Going to clean out a small cabinet to get started.

I didn't get a lot done today. I went to take the binder back and I didn't have the receipt. He scanned it and said one penny. ONE PENNY? I paid 29.99 for it. He got the manager over and she said it must have been on sale at one time and they could only give me $20.00. A little better but sheesh. I knew I had the receipt because I put it in the bag. So, I came back home. Long story short, it had fallen out of the bag in the garage. I got the $29.99 back and got what I needed. This time when he scanned it it came out $29.99 and not a penny. Funny about that.

It wasn't really very hot out but I was getting nauseous and my back was hurting. Lately whenever I walk a lot (for me) my hip sockets start to hurt pretty bad. I wasn't in the mood to be out. I got the bills mailed but forgot to get my meds. Dr. said I need to come in for blood work etc. but she keeps filling my meds for 3 months out.

They had one major road blocked off for a parade or something. Everyone had to go way out of their way to detour. Of course I didn't know about it until I was in the middle of it. Not sure why they had a parade on Thursday.

I skipped Wal-Mart, grocery shopping, donations and Subway. I did run into Lowes to look for a spray you can spray on your walls after you spackle and sand them so they aren't a different texture when you paint them. He said that product doesn't exist. I'm sure I saw that on Youtube. Will look later.

I'm tired, achy and glad to be home. So much for my big plans today. Probably won't go to the recycle bin tonight either.

Miki, I think minimalism and prepping can sort of go hand in hand. Maybe keep a minimal house with one designated area for your preps and supplies.

I'd like to do that but I know it isn't going to happen. Probably just set myself up for failure.
