Pork Loin Rub by Request

This is for my dear freind Westie.   I use this on pork, but it could be used on other meats as well. I usually taste the rub and the sauce and adjust it accordingly.       Rub Mixture:   1-2 ounces salt   2 Tbls. Black Pepper   10 Ounces sugar   A sprinkle of garlic if desired   1 Tbls. Worcestershire sauce   Several sprinkles of Ginger   Oil to bind ingredients   [/size]   Put ingredients in a bowl. Add enough oil to "wet" the ingredients. Rub mixture on roas

Upset Plans

Today was one of those days when best laid plans are blown away. Every effort I make to plan a sewing day is an exersize in futility. When I called back the hall this morning to wake the boys for school, I was unprepared for what happened next. They came out and began to tell me how awful they felt. DFS1, age 14, fell last evening and ran a splinter into his knee. He didn't get all of it out, and it had festered a bit and kept him awake all night. DFS2 was a bit warm and complaining of a tum

TADA!

It is getting to be the end of the day./.. a long SUCCESSFUL day.   Katy is in a virtual bowling league. I took her to do her last months and this months bowling this morning -- 4 rounds. Lets just say -- she is not a bowler and I am not a good coach! Her lowest score was a 7. Her highest was a 53.   We then went and shared an appetizer at TGI Fridays. Good stuff, but too much of it.   Then off to my therapist's. I have agreed that A. I will go to church this weekend and sit outside

well, didn't get to much accomplished today. One of my kids stayed home from school so all I got done was the kids laundry,, actually, that is an accomplishment in itself. I only have three kids but man can they go through the clothes!   I did find hotdogs at Walmart for .88 each per package so I bought 10 of them to store in the freezer. A little bit here and there really adds up. I bought seal a meal bags too, wish I could find 'em cheaper   I think i'll just blow the whole night off and

Organization

We're going to be moving some time before summer...after 14 years in this 3br, 2b with a 4 room garage conversion. Try and imagine how much stuff you can have with that much room... And we want to be ready to move with a 30 day notice if we find a place sooner than summer. We started a couple weeks back tossing what is really unnecessary. As much as I don't want to move, this is a good process. We're getting rid of stuff I knew we should've gotten rid of years ago...just never got around to it.

NO CAN OPENERS???

I know I own two manual and one electric, which I put away so we could all get used to using manual ones and to save a few pennies of electricity.       So when one broke today (and the kids didn't tell me) I should have been fine.       I could not find the other manual and the electric is in the completely overcrowded and rather disorganized cellar store room. After ten minutes search and getting very mad at myself for putting the cleaning and organizing off while I search for news o

All sides agree the economy is bad. Apocolypse must be soon.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-lux/con...s_b_164066.html   very interesting POV. It agrees with what I have seen the past 4 -8 years too.       I think we need a balance of the two politrical positions. If progressives run things too long, you do tend to see too much social progerams and taxes. Too much means that business starts to suffer, which harms us all.   Unfortunately, when conservatives run things for too long you get...well, what is happening now as a worst case. A gene

Sunny Thursday

So it is a sunny day today--that's good actually, as DH is on pager all week. No rain until Sunday maybe, but then again, it means no OT for him, so less $ to pay down bills. Everything's a tradeoff, eh?   The Monkeys are up & around, and are somewhat behaving this morning. I don't expect it to last though. It never does!   The shoulder is alternately feeling fine, and just aching. I see the doc tomorrow and find out if I start PT next week, or stay in the sling. I admit I do get

Take 2...

Y'all could have TOLD me that the link to my other blog wasn't working. Ah well... When someone as computer-illiterate as me attempts something as intricate as that, it's bound to turn out bad. I shoulda known.   So I'm trying to decide if I ought to bring a bunch of my entries from over there... to over here. I *have* learned how to copy/paste. I could probably even tweak the dates so that they're accurate. (well.......maybe. I could TRY, anyway)   Gotta think about it.     Oh, u

For those of you who don't really believe that God likes to get all involved in the tiniest details of our lives, you may not want to bother to read on. But, for those of us who understand that God is a marvelous Orchestrator of the lives of those that allow Him to be...I think you'll be nodding your heads in agreement.   I don't believe in coincindences, flat out, I just do not. If you do, well, naturally you must be mistaken.   I do believe in Divine Intervention, Divine Purpose, and

Our New Home

The first day on the new board. This is so exciting. My day has been busy, so I've not had the time to figure this all out like I want too. I've messed around enough to come to the conclusion that this is like walking into a new house and discovering a floor plan that is full of surprises. Hidden passageways, secret rooms waiting to be discovered. This should turn out to be a delightful adventure.

Civil War Fife Guy--my dh!

This is a Civil War fifer. It's my dear hubby, John. Yep, that makes me a fife wife, LOL   Playing the fife isn't easy. The first lesson includes learning to get a sound out of the instrument. This can take weeks in some cases. It is said that if you can get a sound out of it right away, you have talent as a fifer. That's not entirely true. Both John and I were going to do fifing together. I could get a sound out of the thing immediately and the fife group was impressed mightily. However,I

Thursdays news

Today (Thursday) we have to be at the Amish Greenhouse by 7 am (up at 5:30 am)to start work for the day. There is a Amish Wedding in town and everyone will be going so we get to run the Greenhouse for the day. Also need to get more Herbs going and more onions too seeing we will have a very busy year again like last year with everyone wanting to start a garden for the first time. With i

intro to me!

I live in the city and am a newbie survivalist. I live on a 35 by 107 lot. I have a garden, water bath and pressure can our food. I do alot of baking from scratch. We don't have any animals except for our dog. Due to city regulations we don't have enough property to have animals. We make due with what we have. Our goal eventually is to move to the country. One day that may happen. I'm married to a wonderfully supportive man and have three terrific children.   What do I consider a survivalist

Wednesday Night

I am feeling a bit more comfortable with the new site. There is so much to see and explore that a girl could get lost in here and never come up for air! Unfortunately life does go on in the outside world as well, so I am going to have to find a happy balance.   I love the blog feature; I am so tickled to have a place where I can let it all just hang out. I love it that it is only viewable by the membership. This works for me! My Blogger blog is a lot more formal and a LOT of work, even

progressive news?

how neat!       I have Conservative:the various survival sites   Liberal:HuffingtonPost.com   Mainstream:CNN.com and MSN.com   and now Progressive! alterNet.org   given enough POV's I can figure anything out.   I sent a thankyou to the guy who posted the link. Survivalistboards.com is a good news site and the people can disagree with you and stay civil! I am reminded why I generally prefer male company to female. They can disagree without hating you and your family too

Ah, the first morning on the new site. I love it! There are so many buttons and features, it is just perfect. Thank you so much to Darlene and MountainMommy and everyone else who made it happen. It is awesome.   On tap here at Chickadee Lane Lodge today is some more canning of ground beef (I browned it yesterday and chilled it so I can remove the fat), and cleaning house since I didn't hardly get anything done yesterday what with wasting soo much time online, lol. And I was right about n

My Holiday Tree

I have a Holiday Tree. The kids bought me a 3 foot tall white Christmas Tree so I can decorate year round.   I bought all sorts of trimmings after Christmas for $0.25 cents, in red, green, orange, and blue. I was hoping to get pastel colors but have to wait for Easter.   My intent is to decorate it each month with what ever holiday falls in that month. The months without holidays are June and August, January if you don't count New Years Day/Month.   This is going to be my fun monthly ho

First Day in the New Place

This is an experiment -- I'm not used to blogging. It feels strange. I don't know if I'll keep up with this. Anyway, it's good to be in the new message boards and although I am fighting Sjogren's Syndrome brain fog today, I am learning the ins and outs of the place.

Day 2

Today is a 'day of running'. Running here and there, post office (No my box isn't ready -- well it IS but I ordered something that will be here in a few days and have to wait for that to ship it!) I have two other boxes to mail.   I found sheets for my neice for her birthday -- Spongebob. She loves Spongebob, and her birthday is Valentines day. I also got sheets for my nephews -- Spiderman! They love superheros. I also got them vitamins (free after coupons -- or almost free in one case). I s
