  1. CGA was a wonderful mentor. We will do well to remember, and know, how much she taught us all. Thank you Lord for having placed this strong woman in our hearts and on our minds.
  2. LOL - once upon a time I used tea bags to soothe my tired eyes. I put them on (held in place with a loose fitting hair band) and fell fast asleep. Woke up the next morning, everything still in place, except my face......My eyes were swollen completely shut, blistered and nasty looking. That little mistake cost me a day of work, a visit to the eye dr, and a huge amount of embarrassment. It was only a little less embarrassing than when I managed to get dog dander in my eyes, and my eye balls were bulging out of the sockets like big squishy grapes. The Drs. at the hospital called ALL of the interns to come and see..... I'm glad I can laugh about those incidents now but they were pretty ugly at the time.
  3. Well this morning, breakfast, (meal one on the Whole 30 ) was leafy greens with scrambled eggs, and an apple, tossed with a homemade mayo. The mayo is just an egg, dry mustard, wee bit of salt, light tasting olive oil (or avocado) 1 1/4 c and freshly squeezed lemon juice. There is sugar added to the bottled "real lemon" you can buy from the store. For lunch I had cucumber, green onion, radish, and a chopped up sausage pattie mixed with the same mayo. Just didn't have anything else prepared ahead. The sausage was a ground pork/beef combo I had mixed up with apple and sage as the seasonings.
  4. Are you coming down off the mountain? Praying all is well with your soul, dh, and family.
  5. Ohoooo.........fast foreword to fennel. I would not have even guessed that for sausage, we'll try it.
  6. Sounds so good......I had been wondering about adding sage. I am bbqing three chickens on the Treger (wood pellets) this morning and need to do something with the ground pork and Turkey. When there are just the two of us to cook for I try to batch cook what I can. One day I will get as efficient as. Mrs. We2 and all of you other ladies with more canning.
  7. We are doing the food program called "Whole 30". Both dh and I are feeling better for it. Will someone please tell me what flavourings you use for the wonderful pork sausage patties we have eaten in the US. They are not common here, and because we were beef farmers, that is the ground meat we used. I surprised my self with chili made with ground turkey too! More ideas for ground pork or chicken would be welcome too. If you are interested, google the book called "It Starts with Food" and/or also "the Whole 30". You give up common allergen foods for thirty days and start adding back one at a time if you wish to see how those foods affect your body. Tossing any form of sweetener and sugar I feel has had the most impact for me. My body is changing and I feel so much better.
  8. Enjoy a slow paced pleasant walk. And do smell the roses.....no pressures there. Sounds lovely to me, as did your herbal bath.
  9. Dh doesn't want me to investigate further. He doesn't want to have us quarantined for rabies. I scooped them up in a shovel into the burning barrel. I have made a point of looking out oft times through the night and still do not see any flying. I have checked in the buildings and not found any bats. The week has gone by and I haven't found more dead bats yet, but NOTHING black gets by me. I swear if I find another, I WILL report it. I would rather be in quarantine for precaution than because!!!!!!!! (we didn't report).
  10. Two more dead bats. One of them exactly where I found the first one. The cats do bring me treats but this is just weird!!!!!
  11. 😪 and doesn't it just sneak up on you so suddenly. We think the day has been on even keel and then the fur baby isn't there for the tastiest rib bones you kept back on your plate just for her.....
  12. I think there is a recipe on here somewhere. My salve is made in a small mold, and kept in an airtight container. A "baby" Tupperware works nicely.
  13. Yes, three dead bats brought up the hair on my neck. It felt whoooowhoooowhattheheckisthis? kind of weird!!!! We did have some very strong winds at night. Usually the wind drops in the evening here at this time of year, so wondered if they may have gotten caught up in a small twister and were just dropped here. The first bat really shocked me because I thought I was picking up a baby bird carcass. The cats leave those around all the time. The meanies will catch a bird and then bring it under the closed in deck so they can play some more......poor birds can't get away from them under there.
  14. I found three dead bats in our yard since Sunday. I have lived here for 27 years and have never even seen a bat flying around. We spend many an eve on the deck, beside a camp fire, in the hot tub etc. Could my cats be catching them? Disease comes to my mind...... We see bats at our park so I know how they swoop around in the dark. Can't imagine that the cats could catch them. Any thoughts? Everyone gels me to burn the carcass.
  15. Ouch, MomM. Hope you are over that soon. I feel so lazy when everyone else is working so hard. We2s, it has never even occurred to me that you can freeze potatoe salad. What is the texture like, and do you have egg in it?
  16. You most be a whirl wind, near fair time. I can't imagine the work it must take. Enjoy the accomplishments, I surely enjoyed your sharing with us Snowmon.
  17. We are right there with you. We had to take our Molly in last week. It seemed like was waiting for us to be ready to let go.
  18. Burgers in mushroom sauce, served over potatoes from last nights dinner, garden lettuce, and rhubarb/blueberry cobbler.
  19. Nine new fires in twenty four hours. I think there are 112 burning just now. No fire here but we do have advisories for the smoke coming down. My old dog likes it because we let her in the house where it is cooler and she can breath better.we have been hauling water up around our house, make the robins sing love songs to my husband
  20. We are having wild fire to the North of us, and the are over 10,000 evacuees. Mt.Rider, the news makes me think of you every day. There is an effort going on to go back in to get pets and other animals.
  21. We don't have to be doing anything. Some times it is fine just to "BE"! Isn't it too hot to be working anyway?
  22. I was pleased because it could be a prepper meal. Save the store bought lettuce, I had everything else in the cupboards, and stock piled. We need to plant more multiplyer onions so we can dehydrate more . Dh came up short on all the onions. He had them in early but it was too dry for then to grow or he misplaced a couple of bags. There is only one mesh "mark the row" bag out there!
  23. Salmon loaf, rehydrated hash brown potatoes (with green onions from the garden), and green beans (from last years garden). I put shredded cheese on the potatoes, and also had lettuce and tomato for colour. Our fresh lettuce isn't big enough to eat yet but surely is a teaser because it looks so good after a recent rain. Store stuff just doesn't make the grade when you are watching the baby lettuce grow. "Lettuce eat it already"!
  24. I took dogs to the vet yesterday. I have probably had more dogs in my lifetime than the age of the young student, but it annoyed me, even though she was just trying so hard to be really thorugh, to have her explain each med., reason for it , and condition of each pet multiple times over. I may not be a veterinarian, or young, but I am not a lump of coal either! Two of the dogs were close to her age, and my children are old enough to be her parents, the elder must know something.......the $721.62 charge for the visit added to my frustration, that and the fact, that I'll have to go through it again with another student next year
