  1. These are great! Thanks for the laughs! And you paintball people - you ARE going to clean that up aren't you?! LOL
  2. Great stuff! I'm copying it to share! Thank you for all the work you all put in on this!
  3. The attic is great for hiding things that don't need to be grabbed fast and can stand extreme temps. No one wants to dig through that insulation up there. A small box built on a rafter. Or a false ceiling in the attic. Of course I have never been in our attic so I'm not sure whats up there other than some critter that wakes me up running around at 5 am. So my ideas may not be good ones for all cases. When I get done tossing mothballs up the to get rid of the critter, the attic will be itchy and smelly. I wonder if it will stink up the house? Better do some thinking on this....
  4. This is some great stuff! I see a new project in the works!
  5. I was talking to dh about making soap since when TSHTF it will be a needed item and possibly good for trade. He said that lye comes from wood ashes and since we have a wood stove I'll be all set. Do you make your own lye? If not where do you get it?
  6. Thanks for sharing Darlene. Quite an eye opener. Stay prepared!

DH and I talked doggie this morning when he got home. He's hooked! Westie, do you have your dogs fenced in? We have fencing around the land but not dog-proof. There is a big kennel but I'd like to have my furry buddy come out and play and run every now and then! They sound like great chicken watchers! Thanks for the link! And I love the pictures! What color do you call this beauty Maranda's Garnizon of Shahbazin? Beautiful! I know not to get a dog based on color but that is so pretty! I want a dog with personality, will watch the property and critters, bark on strangers and not eat the kids! Oh and I can hug! I miss having a doggie to hug. Thanks for all your help! There may be a medal of honor in this for you! Chocolate clusters!

Thank you ladies! I looked and found an Anatolian rescue that isn't far from here! They have mainly older dogs though and I'd like soemthing teenagerish! I have always brought home rescue critters. I got a German Shepherd but he was a baby whenI got him and he was no problem to train. The other rescued dogs were mixed breeds about 4 months old and love junkies! I even had a cat that I rescued and she in turn rescued me. She would growl when my father was coming down the hall towards my room and I could stop reading or whatever and sit and do nothing then he couldn't find a reason to yell or get mad. She saved me often. I still miss her and she's been gone 8 years. Back to the dogs. I called DH at work and told him about the anatolians and he looked online at them while we talked. He kept saying how much he wants and elkhound and the he read outloud to e that elkhounds are scent hounds. I told him that means they will find a scent and track it. He read the same thing onthe page and it added that they won't listen to you if they want to follow it! No more elkhound talk. He really likes the anatolian but he wanted to know what you all feed them. I told him that a quality food is Pedigree dry but he wanted me to ask. Sometimes I think he thinks I'm dumb. Oh well, sometimes I KNOW he is! LOL Thank you to everyone for all the help!

I'm leaning towards the anatolian. The doublelayer coat of the elkhound could prove to be a bad thing here in tickville! I hate to admit I hadn't even thought about ticks! We're planning on chickens (friend is giving us abatch o' chickies when the coop is done), a beef on the hoof and at least one horse. The moo will wait until next year for sure. And eventually some rabbits. Does anyone have any problems with their anatolians and livestock like chickens? I know the chickens will be in a coop but grandma had a dog that ate chickens so bad she had to get rid of him. He just torn the wire down and snacked. Nothing saved the chickens. Also I have trained German Shepherds before and they were smart and easy to train. They followed hand signals. How about the anatolian? I have the time to work with him. The kids need time away from mommy every day. Or mommy becomes grumpy!

Wow! Thank you everyone! I have seen the Anatolian dogs before but I didn't know what they were! They sound wonderful! The Pyrenees sound like super dogs alos. I worry about the huge size of them with such little kids though! My kids otgether don't weigh 60 pounds! I saved pages about both of them for DH to see. And thank you Snowmom for the link! I found the local animal shelter (next town over) and I'm going to keep checking it for a some kitties! There is a kitty at the plant where DH works that we're trying to tame before she gets killed but so far she's wild. She won't last long with all the chemicals and heavy equipment there. How can anyone dump an animal? She doesn't run as far as she used to when we put food down for her but the guards at the plant have been told not to feed her by the big boss. So I worry about her starving now. And thank you SueC for the help on the photos! I hate being this old and being so computer illiterate!

This is for everyone! We want a dog! So far Norweign Elkhounds are winning (I wanted a Germand Shepherd but I lost that battle). What does everyone sugggest? We have the two kids (under 3 years old) and 19 acres with a kennel but I want them to be able to roam the land also and not run off! Darlene, what kind of doggies do you have? I know that there are photos on here somewhere of stuff (I see people say things about photos of stuff being pretty and such in posts) but I can't figure out how to see or find them! I'm so not computer-wise! I was hoping to figure it out before I looked like a total fool and had to ask! Pride cometh before a fall - I just tripped! Thanks everyone!
  13. Just an idea about hiding a door. We have some solid backed shelves (the backs are cardboard that looks like wood) that are almost as tall as a door - I think we bought them at Big Lots. If you can get a shelf that covers the major part of the door you can put plants of the top to cover any of the door that sitcks up above it. And some tall plants at the sides of the shelf will hide the edge if it sitcks out. Some plants that hang over the edge of the shelf would disguise any edges too. I just love plants! The shelves we have are not easy to move around but I have seen these glider things that you can put under shelves and heavy things to make them easy to move and they are not very tall so they would't look obvious. Walmart had some that were very thin. Good luck with the project!
  14. I'm so glad my daughter can't read! LOL She would be chasing her brother with the tape as we speak! I love your signature! Very creative and cute!
  15. I have the oddest use for duct tape ever! My daughter recently decided that she doesn't want to wear a diaper. She's almost ready to potty train but we're waiting another month until we get moved. Anyway, back to the duct tape. A strip in the middle of the diaper and one around the top to make a chastity belt as we call it! No tape touches her skin and she can't pull it off since she can't reach the area where it starts and ends in the back. Looks awful but works!
