  1. Can I copy and share it with a friend? It is so true, so true.
  2. First call the phone company and tell them you are being harrassed. Then call the police. If a number is coming up, write it down or at least don't delete it from your caller i.d.. It might just be somone that is drunk and/or dialing the wrong number but better to be safe than sorry. You want both the phone company and the police dept to have a record that you called in a complaint in case it keeps happening.
  3. What do you cook with tomato paste that does not take additional water or other liquids? If you are going to add water when you use the paste, why make paste?
  4. At one time, I went into a clearance sale and found that the store had marked up the price and then put some much percentage off so you were actually only saving a couple of pennies if at all.
  5. Think of the other applications for this -- some kids may not being fed 3 squares a day -- should parents be subjected to CYS coming in to inspect? It may seem like a silly exmaple, but I think it fits -- I don't think just because some parents are horrible means the rest of us should have to prove we're not. This to me seems more along the lines of guilty until proven innocent, and that bothers me. Think of other applications. Maybe someone in the house has a gun. Maybe they have a carry permit. Maybe the children are required to do chores. To some over aggressive liberals, many things can be called abuse. This just gives them the opportunity to inflict their idea of perfect lives onto other people. As I read this, there doesn't need to be any accusation, they WILL inspect the home and family. They would not be inspecting for the signs of abuse, they would be inspecting for the "risk" of abuse (read the memo).
  6. So. they think that a child who is home-schooled or church schooled may be somehow more at risk that a child in public school? Who is Martin Indars? The memo purports to be from a senator but the replies go to someone else? Who elected this person? Maybe they need to rethink their voting plans.
  7. Our potatoes are going into large tubs (I have seen cattle feed come in them). A friend has almost all of their vegetables in the tubs. They drill four holes about 3-4 inches up the sides for drainage (reservoir at the bottom for dry times but they do have drainage). They grow white and sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, squash, greens, broccoli, brussel sprouts, herbs, etc. in the tubs.
  8. Another knee-jerk reaction. I can see the state deciding that they don't like where the parents work or what they teach(homeschoolers) and therefore the children need intervention on a "mental health" basis. As for the private schools, they are also usually attended by children whose parents have the money to object and follow up on that objection.
  9. We are trying potatoes for the first time this year. We know some of the problems and hopefully how to deal with them but a friend said that potatoes have serious problems with bugs requiring Sevin dust. Not very in love with Sevin. We need a short lesson in the types of bugs and how to deal with them.
  10. If you are going to zap it in the microwave, why are you worried about instant oatmeal? I make my oatmeal in the microwave all the time.
  11. And, of course, they cannot go with a tried and true practice (where I am from at least) and that is to burn off the field. No herbicides. I don't believe we should let residential herbicide users off either. Their use just adds to the load.
  12. I do believe, I would have eaten somewhere else. Gloves used once can be contaminated in a circumstance like that. . I wonder what a health inspector would have had to say about it. I worry about people without sick pay but that isn't a good enough reason to get everyone else sick. I have a friend that carries hand sanitizer everywhere and uses it when they leave a store. But, when that friend had Shingles which can give people the chicken pox, they didn't even worry about going into a store and touching everything. And then walking out to the car and using the hand sanitizer.
  13. I was told by a lab tech friend that it is a different type a flu and so the flu shot doesn't work as well as they thought it would.
  14. Who set up the budget? How did ya'll decide on your allowances (you get one also)? Perhaps, he needs to feel like he is in control and the budget seems to be someone else controlling him. Give him the list of income, bills, etc. and ask him to set up the budget he thinks is appropriate. On the other side, if the money isn't there, don't spend it. Buy groceries FIRST. Then go down the list of bills, if you have money left. If there isn't enough money, after you buy groceries, ask him which bill he wants you to pay with what is left, if there is enough left to pay any of your bills. Don't use your grocery money for other things. Is the family overdrawn $400 a month or dp ya'll spend $400 more than planned or are ya'll short $400 each month to pay bills?
  15. Did you cook it down on the stovetop or in the oven? Jackie Clay says she cooks hers down in a roaster in the oven set low.
  16. She needs to know why this dog is being kept. And why it is called a "Bite Dog". Does that mean it bites or that it has bit someone and is in quarantine. Quarantine dogs, she shouldn't be walking, IMO. She needs to talk with her employer about their liability if something happens to her and she hasn't had any kind of instruction for how to handle an aggressive dog. Maybe she shouldn't be wording it that way but that is the way that it is. How about suggesting a muzzle when handling the dog? Other question, how does her size match to the dog's size? Is it because the dog doesn't recognize her as an alpha? Or, if he is not neutered, there are times she shouldn't be walking him.
  17. Contact the extension office (usually in county seat). They usually have a way to check the gauge for you. In my case, sometimes you had to take it on a certain day (the equipment is shared by more than one office). Leave the lid with them and they can find out if your gauge is accurate.
  18. I am not an expert but I agree, the heat is too high and so the pressure is too high and the weight is getting it out as fast as possible.
  19. I had very bad trouble with migraines when I was younger. Monthly, weather changes, etc. One thing that helped me was to take B-complex vitamins. Even if I take a multi-vitamin, I would take the B-complex. Didn't get rid of them completely but it cut down on how many and the severity. I still take them. At one time, I thought that was a stupid idea and stopped taking the B-complex. Never did that again. Took about a week before the migraines started giving me fits and took almost a month for them to stop after I went back to taking the B-complex.
  20. Well, I am glad to hear that the meat prices are down somewhere. Not here and they didn't really do anything during the holidays, either. They advertised the prices but they weren't sales.
  21. my opinion for what it is worth is that they may have allergies. My niece at 8 months of age was in the hospital with bronchitis. They had to deep clean her room and get rid of anything that would harbor dust or mold. She grew out of it thank goodness but if there are any allergies, they would keep the children from getting completely well. Any kind of dust, smoke, etc will aggravate until their systems have time to completely recover. Just no more symptoms doesn't mean they have recovered, only that there are no other symptoms.
