  1. I am still waiting for the affidavit from the po. In the meantime, I looked up the company address on GoogleEarth. Not a sign on the address for either the business I ordered from or the business that endorsed the check. The website is still there but hasn't been updated since 2007. Sounds like a good money maker for him.
  2. Well, just learned a lesson. Fortunately, not too expensive. Lost $24.00 plus $5.50 to the post office to show it had been cashed. Let me backtrack. Last summer, we ordered some clothing from a company on the web. Sent a postal money order, thinking it was safer. Well, we were wrong. Now it is December and we don't have the merchandise and cannot get an answer from the company. So, i go to the post office to find out if the money order has been cashed. Cost $5.50 for them to send in a request for the information. I got a copy of my cashed money order showing an endorsement by someone besides the payee. So, i call the accounting service. They will send me an affidavit for me to sign and send it to the payee and they will sign if they cashed the money order or not. Then that goes to the post office and if we didn't cash it, the post office will reimburse the original amount of the money order, $24.00 (but it has already cost me $29.50). And I should send the affidavit via certified mail, return receipt requested (about $4-5.00). But, they have to call me to arrange to send out the affidavit. They called this morning. Endorsement by other than the payee (if the payee is a business) does NOT show fraud. If it there is more than one company related to each other, any of them can cash the money order. After all, it is just like CASH. Actually, according to the woman on the phone, you don't have to put a payee name on the money order since anyone can cash it regardless of how it is endorsed. So, why buy a postal money order. And they wonder why they are losing business.
  3. I took a Bible class my freshman year in college (Southern Baptist college, required course). It was taught by a local pastor. i will never forget his statement. The Bible tells him what God did, science tries to tell him how God did it.
  4. You can get the flexible cutting boards for your chicken and then throw them in the dishwasher. That is what I do. But, I don't put any knives in the dishwasher. Those get washed by hand.
  5. I wish they would get the terminator technology done and apply it to GMO seeds. They may already have it and not use it to push the use of GMO through intimidation (your crop got ruined by GMO pollination but they sue you) or to mess with the clean seeds of heirloom varietys (so you don't have the heirloom varieties anymore). Who knows.
  6. Something spicy will get the mucus thinning out and flowing. Just have plenty of tissues around.
  7. Actually, Jackie mentions things that SHE cans and states very correctly that there are reasons not to can things and reasons to can things. She is very careful in what she puts in her books. Some people will print instructions without adding her disclaimer and that is not right. As for the free books, these are compilations of her Ask Jackie column. You can read her articles at Ask Jackie Online at www.backwoodshome.com/blogs/JackieClay/ and see what you think. She has been doing this for over 40 years and knows quite a bit about her subject.
  8. Happy Thanksgiving. Is there such a thing as eating too much on Thanksgiving.??
  9. Wanted to go back and edit but can't do that or quote and the only information listed on posters is their username. Nothing else.
  10. I can post in a thread but cannot post in the Shout Box. I had display problems, ran virus checker, found FIVE and got them removed(all had Java in their name). Still having display problems.
  11. I don't know a lot about herbs but we used chamomile when my son was small and had colic. It works well for settling the stomach.
  12. I have read about one of these instances. Bothers me that a poll worker said it happens "sometimes" but the guy in charge doesn't know anything about it. Shouldn't happen ever. So make sure you check that your vote is cast correctly and tell someone besides on site poll worker if you have problems.
  13. I don't know who explained or why but if you are not in debt, you will have a lousy credit score since it is dependant on how much you borrow, how long you have been borrowing (how long have you had the credit card), and if you make your payments regularly among other things. Payments are rated on the kind of debt you have. 30 day credit card payments are scored differently than house payments. Among other things I have heard and read about Dave Ramsey is the fact that he does not have a credit score. He requested it and they said that there is not enough information to issue one. So ability to pay for things doesn't count for anything unless you are in debt.
  14. Put some water in one hand, use the other to squeeze the bottle. Put the top of the bottle in your hand and release on the bottle. It will suck up the water from your hand. I usually wind up doing it in the shower, hence the use of my hand but something shallow would probably work.
  15. I know about Fred's. Their home office is in Memphis and my hubby used to work about 1/2 mile down the road. I buy all my canning jars and lids(Golden Harvest) from them. No one around here beats the prices. They are actually in the southeast. Anybody want to check....if you are in the southeast check here to see if there is a Fred's near you. http://www.fredsinc.com/
  16. Haven't heard about a sale around here. Our local Fred's sends their unsold canning equipment back to the warehouse. They already have the best prices so they don't put stuff on sale(per the manager). Are these Golden Harvest or Kerr products?
  17. Around our house, the saying is that we "have one around here... somewhere". I keep my weight in the padded envelope inside the canner when I am not using it and when I get the canner out, it stays right on the countertop next to it or I would lose it in the junk drawer.
  18. I'm a scraper even if I got whatever free or grew it. Waste not, want not.
  19. This works really well. Keep them in dark place. Something to remember, sweet onions do not keep as well as other types. I have some now that we have had since June. They are starting to sprout in my frig. When they get to that point, I dice and freeze or dehydrate.
