  1. Why Jeepers! You look just like DH!
  2. Yeah. I believe I've mentioned WOOD BURNING insert a time or two! MtRider
  3. Is this an intro to "disease X" .....the place marker name for the next pandemic? Gonna have some weirded-out folks getting off that flight. I certainly would be! Unless he had been poisoned....rather than a contagion. MtRider ...not good.
  4. Well I completely dismantled the sections of the pellet stove that can be dismantled. Cleared out all the ash. Those final two peices didn't really need to come out. Hadn't done them but once a season. Ash doesn't get back there much. Then we tried the stove and nope. There are 3 motors on this OLD model. The fan that blows hot air into the room. The motor that turns the auger to drop the pellets. And the fan that blows a strong current of air into the tiny firebox that the pellet collect in -- forge affect for hot flame. That last one is not working. J and B are out of state right now. So I told her I'll try to stick my head into the back and see a number on THIS motor. Just replaced a different one last year. AND...poor J. She's spent all today on her phone calling pellet stove places all over the country to find a part for a different renter. She'd just found it and then I called to leave a message. ANOTHER OLDE PELLET STOVE ISSUE? She called me back tho. They'll come over Tues....so I hope snowplow guy gets us dug out. We didn't get that much but it's added to what we got ... ..uh, whatever day that was. MtRider ...never a dull moment.... (and here I've been missing having goats.......)
  5. .....and no one expected THIS GUY to show up! https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/tripideas/video-massive-moose-chases-skiers-down-slopes/ar-BB1hWMBr MtRider
  6. You and I are too much alike, Jeepers! I have done that very same thing! The: I CANNOT believe you are that stupid/rude/incompetent look! Does our 'older' looks remind them of some fierce teacher they once had? So.....we're snowing again! Already added nearly 3" just after the snow plow left. But if we get 4-8", it's definitely worth inviting the snow plow back. Now we have another problem: One blower on the pellet stove quit working. I MUST get into it and see if there is ash blocking it. I keep forgetting. I seem to be REALLY distractable lately. I'm coming off a med and I hope that's not it. I have been able to make a decent supper the past two nites. Thurs/Fri is when DH comes home from working with home health aide client at 7pm. So yeah, gotta get supper. But ....I get stuck on what to make from what's available. C'mon already. I cooked for decades! I'm fine once DH suggests something. C'mon brain! I finally found a way to review Hawaiian language on the Duolingo program and have restarted that finally. Supposed to be good for brain function. Anyway...same thing about the pellet stove. I have to check if that's buildup of ash is merely the problem or we have to get inside there and get a part # or what??? AND.....we're having more snow.....piles up on the trees.....limbs break and take down power lines......and what's the only form of HEAT that can be powered for hours by our new battery power source? The Pellet Stove. At least it hasn't been below zero for several weeks. This doesn't feel that cold but....anything below 32 is FREEZING! Hmph, not sure any of this post makes sense. MtRider I think I'm getting really TIRED from stuff! But I did make brownies too.
  7. I know, right? Good thing my sense of smell has never been very good. (except for something burning...) We had a duck sitting on an egg one season. Been sitting a long while. I reached in to feel the egg and it exploded in my hand. Pheeewwwwwweeeee! That was definitely never gonna be a duckling. I went directly down to the pond to wash that off my hands. Well...we snowed very hard for a very short time. But it happened to be right when we were all driving in to church for Women's Bible Study this morning. Some were shocked to find the snow after driving from their house to the church. We had it all the way. But once we all got started, the sun came out and melted a good portion of what had been coming down. LOL Can't figure weather in the mountains. I was glad to be able to attend but....I told DH 3 times: "You can turn around and take us back home if this is too slick." As he caught the side of the road cuz you couldn't see where the road was. We slid around for probably a very long 30 seconds before he got control again. But all was fine. MtRider ...only had to sweep our way up the steps when we arrived home. Then it quit.
  8. Now I feel more badly. I'm 4-H trained that one does not crack farm fresh eggs right into the sizzling fry pan! You crack them into a small bowl to make sure they ARE fresh and put one by one into the fry pan. The THIRD one was bad this morning. (Down the toilet with all three and start over). Rats! And we've got less egg layers than last spring/summer. Still eating off last season's eggs. They're in fridge or waterglass buckets. We're hoping the last goose was the one laying last summer but we never could figure it out if we had 2 geese or one goose and one gander....and which was which? Turning a goose upside down is risking getting battered about the head soundly! We'll know who's the last one left ...eggs = goose. No eggs= he's the gander! Do we get more little ones again? Yes.....I was also wondering about you, Midnight! My GrS1 is at Stanford but he's assured his mom that they're higher up and not a problem. Kid is not quite 21..what's he know? Right? But hopefully he is correct and they don't have massive flooding. Anyone else in CA? Glad you're fine, Midnight. As for enduring our crazy snow and wildfire and ..... at our age..... Where did I just hear that today? My grief counselor ( G ) when I told him our snow story with DH incapacitated. No one really to call on. Most of our neighbors have aged out of the Mts... or just moved closer to their younger generations. Or died. We were fully engaged with my folks for 4-5yrs, and now we look around and ...like Little Sister, no one's left that's close by. Even church. I'm now mostly getting to know some women that have been there a long time but weren't there previously when I was leading women's Bible study or before the "new" building. They've come in while we were tied up with my folks and their health issues. So G has a point. Yet....how can we hope to make it on Maui? Housing is horribly scarce - especially after Lahaina burned. A LOT of those folks are still living in the hotels. Governor wants to outlaw AirB&B's - short term rentals and make those owners rent to local folks. Nice idea but forcing people to change is not the state's business! Short term rentals to tourists makes a lot more $$ if they can keep them filled. He might cause local people to lose their 2nd house from not enough $$. Don't like the gov/ don't trust him....or many of the people in power in Hawai'i. And HOW could I get all my preps over to the middle of the Pacific! So my answer to counselor.... "I know....I know...I know!!! But...." We can live within our means here. But how do we deal with aging out? Jeepers has the right idea....when you finally get over near your kin! Mother is right near family. Anyone else feel like it's THAT time? MtRider .... need to hit bedtime so I can get to Bible study in the MORNING! Eewwww!
  9. Hi everyone. It's been busy in our little SNOWY corner of CO. Fri nite DH had come home from working with his client. Had already started to snow and we'd been warned....storm coming. DH went to stand up and sudden low back pain nearly knocked him to his knees. What's that? Not his usual back pain. He began to look stuff up - doctor stuff and decided it's probably a kidney stone. [familiar topic around here] So he drank some apple cider vinegar for two days and made a face every time. But that particular pain has been greatly reduced. However, since bending over and movement was quite painful, and it snowed for 2 days.....guess who had to dig the vehicles out? I took it slowy and carefully. I dug the car out entirely on Sat. About 6" at that point but it was pouring-down-snow the whole time. I also dug out the truck...just the cab windows/doors and windshield. Then I drove the truck down below (very slick on the hill even in 4-wheel) and shoved it out of the way of impending snowplow guy...but near the road if we HAD to get out. I was down to a Tshirt and long-sleeve shirt by then and on my second pair of gloves. Wet heavy snow! Checked on birds in duckhouse and added feed. Water ok. Dragged myself up the driveway and 15 stairs. And I was STILL having a lot more "fun" than DH at that point. He was in pain. I stuck a 12" ruler into the growing "wedding cake" = snow piling up on our round picnic table just out the back door. AND at the very beginning of this heavy snow, I plugged in our battery power station to have full back up for the pellet stove. The snow was coming down sticky and if the heavy-laden pine limbs broke amidst power lines all over the county .... we'd lose power. We didn't but I'm still surprised! Exactly the conditions we bought it for!! The next morning I got up and when I looked down at the car from the 2nd floor porch - there was more snow on there than before I'd cleaned it off yesterday. But it was sunny. Snow is ended. Snowplow guy has us on his list and the car has to move. Ducks/goose have to be tended. So...I dress for sweating again but with snow pants and high snow boots. The snow was higher than my boots! I looked out the back door (ground level cuz built into the hill) and my 12" ruler was over-topped and not visible. Stuck a yardstick into the impressively tall "wedding cake" and it was around 14-15". DH was better...a little. Not enough to help except he cooked. So I shoveled and tossed snow til I could just get into the car. Switched out from my wet leather/lined work gloves again and with a dry pair, put a 5 gal jug of water for ducks/goose into the car. Drove carefully in lowest gear down over the edge that is our driveway. Rear end was sliding towards the not-cliff side. Compensating to straighten and got down. Shoved that car next to truck. Let the sun melt off all the snow from the back half of the vehicle. My arms had enough with shoveling out a portion of the bird pen so they could come out in the sun on Sunday. Fresh warm water in their bucket. More food...I'd given them extra the previous nite and they ate to keep warm. Got down to 10*. But warm now with sun. They were glad to be outside. So with the empty water jug and a spare pole I grabbed from the back of my truck....both sets of vehicle keys zipped into my pocket....I slowly made it back up the driveway on foot. Again. This time I had to stop and sit for a minute on the blue Reliance water jug. Several times! I was mostly using the tire tracks to avoid the deeper snow. But I made it. We ate again and finally I HAD to take a (3 hour) nap. Woke up and a bit befuddled, I saw it was getting late and needed to walk down and feed, shut birds inside for the night. So I'm getting dressed again...wet things dried (again) near pellet stove. DH comes out and didn't know I was up. He'd already been able to walk down and do the birds and got back up the steep hill. Oh yeah. That was good news. His back was improving. Stone passed or what? Dunno. But I didn't have to go down! Today we got plowed out and both vehicles are up here again. There are mountains of snow piles circling the whole top of driveway. Haven't had that much in many years. They stay shaded so it will be summer before they're gone...unless we get really warm again. Nearly all our snow has been gone....until this hit. It's SO much easier when there isn't huge mounds of snow/ice everywhere. Even the mini- dirt dam I build every year under the porch by the garage door.....didn't hold back the melt-water. Runs down the hill and around the corner right in front of the people door for the garage. We're in and out of there every day. Today it was soupy. Now I need the thaw so I can shovel more dirt/gravel into that area and begin building the winter "mini - causeway" so we can reach that door without waders. { no, it's only inches high but annoying every year} But now the dirt is locked in solid again and I have to find dirt I can shovel. But...the sun is already melting holes in the snow behind the house. I'll get dirt from there. Today I rested cuz DH could do the birds but I did go down and shove more snow off the topper of my truck. Don't need that caving in with more snow later. Brought it up again. Ain't life fun with weather conditions always keeping ya on your toes! But DH had to do the exact same thing (except he didn't move my truck so the plowing went badly...not much room for big truck with a blade) while I was in Virginia with the Moving Mom Again issue. 15" that time too. So this was my turn. Neither of us do well with that much manual labor! But .... we both survived. Another long-winded story of survival MtRider
  10. I'm still up and it's still Wed. Happy Bday, Kappy MtRider little midnight snack
  11. Yeah....what Martian said!!!
  12. Good to see you, Kappy. Sorry to hear of all the surgeries (some repeats, unfortunately) Rehab is tough! But Happy Birthday. (didn't I just mention Streakers in another thread?) She and C.S. Mary are having some throw-back moments to the 70s. We don't have streaking weather...snow all over everywhere but melting with decent sunny days. Glad to hear you were able to persevere and keep the garden and critters going. Wow...such harvest you're having. I can only dream up here in high mountain country. MtRider
  13. Going to bed! But enjoyed catching up here on MrsS. Y'all are busy as normal. I have Women's Bible Study tomorrow...if I can function! Morning functioning hasn't been real good. We're having 60-75* weather - still have snow all over but in-the-sunshine, that's what the thermometer says on the porch. So why aren't people signing up to ride horses???? I NEED to ride! It's been weeks and weeks! Friday/Sat it's predicted to snow again. Aaaargh! MtRider .....
  14. Wow....we've all had challenges! Little Sister with the dishwasher (I've just this morning read in a book where the dishwasher flooded half the house) but your's turned out good. You'll get that wood stacked yet! Warms you twice, as we've heard. Becca Anne....I can relate - trying to anticipate all the needs of our elderlies. Had a discussion with mom about coats. She has quite a few. But she was a bit off and insisted that she doesn't have a 'fine' coat to wear. Oh. Good luck on the budget. Hard to do but worth the effort. Necie..also the elderlies issue. Must have been hard to leave but it was a good choice. "Put on your own airplane breathing mask before helping the other...or you won't be any good for them". Jeepers...you're making big progress but even living it with you - it seems so never-ending. You're gonna make it, friend! Glad your snow is melting ...and getting out of the way. Wish you could get the BP under control. ...yeah, I know about being "special" - MS...not MS....mebbe MS.... Hmph! Miki....frozen flowers where you live? That's really unusual, isn't it? Mother...sill wrap. Hadn't heard of that. AND it would take up less space in a box then fat bubble wrap and won't pop. Don't hate me but we're also around 60* and full sunshine today. I think I'll go out and "sunbathe" ...get some sun in my eyes and arms mebbe? MtRider
  15. Sleep all messed up. Woke...slept...woke too late to get to our new Women's Bible study this morning. In fact I ate breakfast and went back to bed. Got up at 11:30am and felt much better. And...it's 11:59pm right now. {in another three minutes, I'll look again and it will be 2am. Really! That happens! } Had a video conference with doctor - med check. I'll be tapering off one of them. A good time not to be too medicine dependent...but most can't really manage it. I've only got one that I'm keeping till I can't - the one that fights MS fatigue. There are ways to get stocked ahead tho. Take advantage of the refill gaps....if your med has them. Unfortunately, I haven't been doing that. You slowly get a few pills ahead each refill. Not so you can misuse them!!!!!!!! But to make sure you've got a buffer if yours are among the back order. All of us here know this - so why haven't I been doing this? I "wake up" when 2 or 3 pills rattle in the bottom of the bottle - and I'm wondering if we can get into town before I'm completely out. Sheeesh! Yay, Miki....nearly 6 hrs of sleep! I feel for ya! MtRider ....will try AGAIN to get into bed and SLEEP.
  16. Well I was in bed but DH was restless. So we were both awake too long. Tired today tho I slept in later. We're still in our mid-January thaw. We don't get them every winter but ..it's nice to get rid of a lot of snow before the next batch begins to fall. Called my mom early today cuz the usual time now lands right when I'm walking dog/putting up the birds for the night. Then I forget. She wasn't fully "together" today but her 'neighbor' stopped to go down with her to today's activity and she was willing to go. I need to lay down and just read Kindle....brain seems to be overtaxed. MtRider
  17. Sheeeesh, Ambergris! Is someone going to check on you thru the night? Are you allergic to bee/wasp stings? MtRider
  18. Right with ya, sistah! Especially TECH new things. MtRider
  19. Ah...thanks Ambergris. I have some old REAL army blankets...somewhere. That would be good. Yeah, Mother. Glad you mentioned cutting up the meat. Forgot that part. Unfortunately other things popped up and I didn't have the hours to try this yet. Had to cook it the usual way - in the InstantPot! Done ..with potatoes (yellow ones that turned to mush in 40 min/pressure cooker mode) carrots, onions, mushrooms, etc. Toooo many things happening at once! I didn't get an early start. Will try it again sometime. MtRider
  20. Glad you have a storm shelter, Mommato3! Tornadoes, etc are too common down there! Can it be a root cellar too? We had to warm up both vehicles this morning and take the car to get the electrical system fixed. Our mech is only a couple miles away and does electrical work...just in his shop. My old truck is a bit slow to change out of first gear in the cold. (automatic) Had to make sure it was warmed enough when we got to the driveway -- his is steeper than ours! Made it fine and had DH drive down the hill.....but only because I keep too much stuff on the floor of passenger side. He wouldn't have fit. Sun was out tho....bright! We had to go into the hamlet and run down the highway a bit. Had to get out and manually unlock the front wheel hubs from 4-wheel before heading out to the highway. And lock them again before climbing out driveway that's mostly packed down glacier snow by now. Warmed up the truck nicely and got that errand done. Forgot to pick up the Lehman's well bucket that's at the P.O. tho. Yeah...did another load of clothes....which I'm just remembering now. They're down the (outside) stairs in the washer. Not. Going. Out. Now. Cold and dark. We got up to 40* and the wind came up tonite but today was really nice comparing what we've had! MtRider
  21. I'm thawing a roast. Potatoes, carrots, onions.... I think I've got it! 'Course mine will start on the stove and end up in one of those THICK styrofoam coolers that things get delivered in. I'll have to pad the sides well so the hot dutch oven doesn't melt my insulating box. I have other alternatives if I think that's likely but I hope it works. Maybe put a board inside to make sure the bottom is protected. ?? MtRider
  22. It's still Wednesday for 10 more minutes in CO sooooooooooo........ HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOTHER I hope and pray you're having some NICE weather for a change! Hope you had family around you! MtRider ...hmm, don't mind if I do.
  23. Finally above zero and sunny. But the wind is kinda strong and bitterly cold! Had an appt this afternoon. I'm beginning the process of getting off a medication. We'll see if this will work. It would help if the stuff hits the fan and I can no longer get the med. I have another 'script for just sinus/allergies. I've got options with that one so I'm not worried. However the amantadine that reduces my fatigue levels.... THAT one I'm hoping to stock up on....JIC. Hope Jeepers got her furniture all placed into her house today!! MtRider
