  1. Planning to can ground beef soon. Does this sound about right? https://www.backtoourroots.net/canning-hamburger-ground-meat/
  2. I went to the grocery store yesterday. No parsnips, very little celery, very few carrots, just a slim selection of veggies overall. Luckily, the one I stopped in at on my way to work this morning had parsnips and celery. I picked up a package of turmeric, going to rinse it as soon as I get home tonight and freeze it. Almost all of the packages had mold growing in them - I picked one of the few that didn't. Luckily, it's cool enough today that I can leave veggies in my car without cooking them. The news was pointing out that it was cooler here than in Anchorage this morning.
  3. Using OldSchool V4 on my iPad in Safari. I have a Reply box. ETA: It’s there in the default theme as well.
  4. FYI, Clara's Kitchen is $1.99 on Kindle today. She was the Italian lady who did the depression cooking channel on Youtube. I immediately grabbed it when I saw it.
  5. The business suppliers are starting to get some things back. I was able to order sanitizing wipes and most of our cleaning supplies, but absolutely no aerosol antibacterial spray (ie, Lysol or generic) yet.
  6. Euphrasyne, the "teething" issues with the schools figuring out what the crap they're doing is why we signed the kids up for a school that had been doing virtual schooling for a while earlier this summer. They're still considered to be in public school, but it's virtual public school (and the older kiddo can still do concurrent classes).
  7. Try holding the power button down until it starts flashing. Give it a few minutes and try turning it on again. After that, it might be time to call Amazon.
  8. *pouts* I wanna go to the beach! Our beach vacation was canceled this summer. Maybe I’ll go in the winter again. Very minimal interaction if I go that way. I rented a condo on the beach with my own kitchen and spent a lot of time just walking. I wonder if the salt air still clears your head if you have to breathe it in through a mask...
  9. There's a doctor who goes by ZDogg who basically said that the doctors who filled out the death certificates for those 6% screwed up. They're supposed to put all conditions that contribute to death on there - which means that you have people who died of pneumonia or cardiac arrest caused by COVID, but there's more than one thing listed on the death certificate because those conditions are added. Here's his video: https://zdoggmd.com/covid-death-stats/
  10. We're deferring a few payments, and that'll put us in a much better place and let us build up a cushion again. SAM'S HAD CLOROX WIPES! Limit 1 5-pack per person. I bought one for the church. I wonder if there's still any left. I don't need them at home, but we definitely need more at the church!
  11. It might be a good thing that I didn't find any shirts. I updated the budget today. We're broker than I thought we were, at least until we get some money that should be coming in soon. My emergency cash had to go into the bank account, and I really don't like when that happens.
  12. We use a salad dressing or protein shaker. They have the little doohickeys in them to help break up lumps! And arrowroot can end up as more of a "gel". The consistency is off. This is why there is a meal in our house called chicken snot...
  13. They’re still a bit short on paper towels and TP at ours. Starting to get more antibacterial soap in. I need to stock up on tissues and baby wipes. Most other things seem to be ok now.
  14. My allergies are kicking my butt this year. Only on the phone for 45 minutes to get the internet disconnected this time. I tried finding new shirts that fit. But...for someone who’s hard to fit in the first place, having the fitting rooms closed means I don’t even try. I’m not going to make 2 trips to every single store to try to find something that fits, then return it all.
  15. Currently waiting on the phone for them to cancel the internet that was supposed to canceled on Friday, but still charged us again. Up to 33 minutes so far.
  16. If you search for Simon & Schuster on Amazon, then select Kindle Books as the category and sort from price: low to high, they have a TON of freebies right now. No idea how long they'll be free for, but I'm finding some interesting ones in there. ETA: Fair warning, there's some $.99 ones that sneak in there. Check before you click!
  17. When hubby worked TSA, he'd tell people "What happens in Vegas stays on YouTube".
  18. I saw on the news tonight that the suspension was canceled. Gee, I wonder if pissed off people were contacting the school...or if the school district realized that could be a legal issue.
  19. DUDE. SERIOUSLY. HOW did ANYBODY think this was a good idea? https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/mollyhensleyclancy/georgia-school-reopening-photo-paulding-county
  20. Someone at our church tested negative and was told there's a 30% chance it was a false negative. Eep.
  21. We got rain one day this past week. Under 0.1". You can see the splatter marks on the hood of my car.
  22. Food Storage Made Easy has a shelf stable recipe book for free. They don't even ask for your email address or anything. https://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2014/08/12/free-shelf-stable-recipe-book/
  23. I don't remember the TB test being that bad, but I also didn't think the COVID test was that bad. I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I think I had the TB test shortly after the same camp that I sprained my ankle while wearing hiking books by wrapping it around the metal plate in the sidewalk - and still walked to the dining hall and back, and didn't go to sick call until the next morning (I was told my options were suck it up or have them call an ambulance).
  24. My thinking is, if you can make an effective vaccine for a coronavirus, why don't we have one for the common cold?
  25. That's the one I've been looking at.
