  1. Could it be something else? Colic or gas due to the formula you might want to switch to soy and see if that makes a difference. Heck, if you are that desperate, try anything, right?
  2. How many ounces of formula or breastmilk is she taking? I have a one month old son and he wants to eat every two hours on 2oz and with 3oz. bottles. If I try to get 3 hours in between each feeding with a 4oz. bottle he just spits most of it up and we end up feeding again in two hours. So I just feed him more often. What about her weight? Is she in the "normal" range? Are you using a pasifier? Finger? Babies like to suck even if they are full. If you are nursing do you let her eat until she falls asleep or just doesn't want anymore? I'm sorry to ask so many questions but I'm just trying to help.
  3. Just a note to remember: Solid foods should not be given until at least 4 months old. Then you should start with rice cereal. At 6 months you can give fruits and vegetables. Until then bottle or breast milk is best. Here are some links to look at when you are ready to start feeding solids foods. http://homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/aa091997.htm http://www.angelfire.com/nm/MorganWilliam/food.html
  4. I need help seasoning a cast iron skillet. I read the direction on that came with the pan but after I put it in the oven it started to smoke not alot but enough to make the whole house smell like smoke. I lightly coated the pan with melted shortening and I put a cookie sheet under the pan in case the oil dripped. What did I do wrong?
  5. My family got the flu shot because of Luke, we didn't want to bring it home to him. We are going to be extra careful this year. We are going to stock up on things now so that we don't have to go out very much during this time. I am making out a list of things that I'm short on. I'm always short on things that we go through really fast.
  6. Is anyone worried about this years flu season? Shannon

  8. With my first two kids I used Pitocin waited 12 hours and used Demerol for pain. Took about and hour of pushing to deliver. With my third child one of my friends talked me into getting an epidural. So it was Pitocin, waited 12 hours and got an epidural, which I will NEVER use again!! Still took an hour to push out. With Luke I used Pitocin, started the night before in a small amount, then the next morning they turned it up and I used something like Demerol but it was called something else. After two hours the Demerol stuff wasn't working anymore and I was begging for an epidural. The nurse told me I would have to wait 20 minutes for it. 20 minutes!!! That's like forever when your in labor!! I'm in really bad pain and about 15 minutes the nurse wanted to check to see how far along I was and she said "No time for an epidural it's time to deliver." I was only in labor for two hours and pushed Luke out in about 5 minutes. Let me say this was the best labor and delivery I ever had.
  9. Sure you can. How can I get to Cat's site?
  10. Hi everyone!!!! For a week or two I had computer burn out. I could not stand to even look at. Then I went to the ob/gyn and she thought it was ok to go ahead and have the baby. Now, here we are. I'm back but only for now. I came here to just let you know everything is ok. Buttercup, I sent you an email with a picture. I hope it comes to you ok. His name is Luke and he was born on the 23 and his weight is 6 lb and 14 oz and he is 18.5". His birth was very different from my other 3 kids and when I return, maybe in a week or so, I will go into detail, if you want. I have to go. I'll be back later. Shannon
  11. My parents have a wood cookstove that they are not using and I wanted to make an outside kitchen. Canning really heats up the house. Does this sound like a good idea? I too would also like to know how to cook on one. How do you lower the heat once you get it hot?

    testing eggs

That's what I do also. It's also to find those bloody eggs, gross!!! I know it's fresh and still good to eat but I can't do it. No since in having to throw out good food because of a bad or not so bad egg.
  13. I know, me too! We need to chat and see what else we have in common.
  14. Buttercup My husband and I have been married 15 years too. We always go out to eat (without the kids) and we don't buy each other gifts. I'm glad to hear about your van. I laughed when you told about everyone sitting on each others laps and got stuck in the mud. Everyone will be glad to have their own seats.
  15. Me too. I've been a stay at home mom for 7 years.
  16. Our weather is HOT! We got very little rain and the grass is still crunchy. This weekend we went to the Kentucky State Fair. One the way home we got a flat tire on the interstate. We took my parents with us so we had 2 men to put on the spare. They were very fast it only took about 5 minutes to change. I also canned 18 pints of crushed tomatoes. I think our tomatoes are finished, except for one or two here and there. I had a very busy day. I just got home and have not been home since this morning. I had to get a new tire, plus we needed a tire alignment, which took forever! (20 miles to) Then I had to run some scrapbook pages to my mother (20 miles back) then go pick up my daughter from school then go get my other daughter from school (20 miles to) and then come home (20 miles back). I was only driving today, but I am exhausted! Time to go fix some dinner. Shake-N-Bake chicken legs. Have a good what's left of the day.
  17. Most days are like that but not all. Sorry but I don't like soaps. It's like once you are drawn in you can't get out. I like to read and watch Dr. Quinn. Right now I am reading a christian romance called Texas Belles and it is really good.

    School

I use Hooked on Phonics. This is the only program that worked on helping to teach my daughter to read. It cost alot but well worth it. I wish I could have found it used, but it is such a good program I can see why people are holding on to it.
  19. I'm like you, except I cleaned the kids room before school started so that they would know where everything is on their own. My husband made new beds for all the kids so basically we hade to take everthing out the rooms so it got really cleaned up. I've also got most of the kids Chirstmas shopping done too. I'm the kind of person who likes to have 90% of my shopping done before the end of September. My family thinks I'm crazy but who want to go shopping with a gazillion people clawing and trampling all over you. Our weather is calling for rain this afternoon also. We also need it, when you go outside the grass is crunchy. I didn't really post what I was going to do because my days are kind of boring with the kids in school now. Let's see.... I homeschool my kindergarten son, I have a big bowl of tomatoes that I'm trying to figure out what to do with. Did laundry yesterday. See kind of boring! I hope everyone has a good day.

Westbrook, may I ask what your fist name is? Buttercup, who were you talking to? Westbrook or me. Shannon
  22. Buttercup: Good buy on the milk. I'm like you, I have lots of eggs, 10 dozen right now. I hope to get those sold next week. I got an order from this guy who is going on a fishing trip and wants 15 dozen at the end of Sept. That's alot of eggs! Milk in our area has gone down. I didn't notice until you mentioned it. In July it was $3.39 and I went shopping yesterday and the price was $2.99. I keep my grocery recipts just for that reason, so I can see the price differences from month to month.

    Aprons (1)

I also love aprons. I have a collection of about 20 or so. I tried to make my own but since I can't sew it didn't turn out very well. Since then I have found cheap ones to wear. I wear a cobbler style apron for ease of putting on and taking off. Here is a link for really cheap aprons, this is where I got mine. http://www.amerimark.com/cgi-bin/am1live...s&mode=
  24. When traveling you learn some interesting things. When we were in Maine my dad ordered a milkshake and he noticed that she put milk in a blender and that was it. He told the girl that she had forgotten something. The girl told him that he ordered a milkshake and that's what he got. He told her that he wanted ice cream in it and she told him that he should have ordered a frappe. We had never heard of anything like that! While we were in New York at a steakhouse we ordered chopped steak with mushroom gravy and they told us they only had mushroom sauce. It turned out that they were the same things. Shannon
  25. Schools start Aug. 11 here. (KY) They start early because they get a fall break in Oct. This is fairly new in our area.
