  1. Lavenderflowers, the links with ubb in them haven't been fixed yet. They got messed up in the site move. You aren't doing anything wrong.

  3. Even the dancers in the ballet are learning to protect themselves. http://pictureisunrelated.com/wp-content/u...-rifle-time.jpg
  4. Good add, Judy. There is a difference between bacteria (germs) and viruses.
  5. An old coffee cup was 6 ounces, so 1/2 of that would be 3 ounces.
  6. You may want to look closely at the raspberry plants. Some ant species 'farm' aphids. They put them on plants and milk them. Aphids can be sprayed with a soap/garlic/water spray.
  7. I located this http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Cookery_(Bookshelf) , it's the cookbook collection from Project Gutenberg. The one that jumped out at me was this one, Twenty-Five Cent Dinners for Families of Six, published 1879. Of course, prices are a tad bit higher these days... http://www.gutenberg.org/files/28419/28419-h/28419-h.htm

  11. Found the thread on Vitamin C, including pine needle tea. I bumped it. http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22530
  12. You said you wanted some other unusual ideas... I'm not sure how unusual it is; but in Summer I make evergreen needle tea, chill, and use as lemon in the iced tea and Koolaid pitchers. Lots of vitamin C in that.
  13. Wow. . . I'm not sure I can say anything other than wow. I never could have written anything this well, but you mirrored my feelings almost exactly. This is a beautiful post, thank you. Leah
  14. My first thought was I'd never heard of canning bananas, but then realized they sell canned tropical fruit salad with bananas in it. Violet, is this one of those things the commercial canners can do, that we can't?
  15. UKGuy!!!!! It's been such a long time... Have some chocolate! http://www.mi5.gov.uk/output/exploding-chocolate-bar.html
  16. Have you ever seen a stargazy pie? That's the sort of pie I would have had to make. I much prefer them without the bones, head and skin...
  17. You know, Cookie - You really need to expand on this one. That you have 20 uses for newspaper besides just reading them. 20? Explain, please.
  18. I learned how to fillet my own fish. Saved half of the cost of having them do it. Good skill to have too, if I want to raise them myself.
  19. If you're into basketry instead of crochet, you may prefer this one.
  20. Found some more - http://www.gingerbreadnook.com/mixes/index.shtml http://www.mixesinajar.com/ - Susie, Did you check your computer cookies? Some sites won't let you in, if their cookie is blocked.
  21. Chocolate freezes very well, Homemaker. I cram it down in the crevices between other things. When you thaw it, sometimes it 'blooms' (those white spots) a little, but is still very good. Freezing it is the only way I can keep it around. We've used several-year-old frozen chocolate.(Sometimes it falls down and gets lost.)
  22. http://homesteadingtoday.com/showthread.php?t=151824 quote: Recipes in a jar ETA: There are now 218 posts on this thread so I'm going to guess that slightly more than 200 of them are recipes. ENJOY! and please let us all know which ones you try and how you like them. :unquote
