  1. It is still dry here. The first time my yard has turned brown. But it was not mowed when it should have been then mowed when it should not have been! That is what comes when I hire someone to mow. Jeepers thank you and back to you!! Mt_Rider if just if I knew then what I know now.... my hip would be fine and well healed. Before the month was up I was walking normally without a cane. Then... now I walk only with a cane. Hopefully I will get back to normal.
  2. Not doing much... just washed 2 loads clothes. 101 today so everything dried fast. May have another pint or two of tomato juice to can tomorrow. I am tired but no fever. Broke a hip in April and it has caused severe energy drain.
  3. Aw Jeepers you needed to get it out of your system! Now you can smile all over and people will wonder ......what next??
  4. Sorry dear Jewel of the desert that you lost your ferret. Sad about the neighbor wanting the grands to grow up lawless?. You are always a treasure.
  5. Friday eve through Monday morn I came up with blank page. I have an ASUS tablet with Jellybug .
  6. The momma is not being able to find food and not producing sufficient milk. She may have been an indoor cat and not know how to hunt or what to eat outdoors. Also panicking because of the strangeness.
  7. In nursing homes the residents have had to give up their pets. After I was given permission to bring Joy into the assisted living home....the joy was boundless as people reached out to pet her. The result ....... they murmured and complained until the home brought in a dog. It made so much difference. The residents became calmer, why should anyone be surprised? As we become older we do not become another species, we are still human and have the same likes and dislikes!!!!!!
  8. I use white vinegar and just pour some in maybe 1/3-1/2 cup but my AA is big enough to double stack pints. If your jars come out cruddy you did not put enough in, or vinegar is not what you need.
  9. Vinegar is a must in my canner water. But using vinegar also means that the canner must be washed remove the acid. Soda can be a good scouring agent by applying dry to cloth or sponge.
  10. Yes some people believe everything the internet says too...... Thank God for a brain that works!
  11. Mother, Lumabean, Snowmom, updates on your Lymes disease? Do hope all are going better. Samento is an excellent herb.....
  12. I will send you 2 heirloom tomato plants if you want to add to your patch?
  13. I know when mine was copied the first time. I used it for my motel room and the clerk kept it longer than she should. 3 days later it was used in Illinois at Wal-Mart for over $200. My credit card company took care of it . I do not know what happened within weeks of getting a new one. Debit cards can strip you as no ID is required. Credit cards can be stolen or compromised . And there are some places that will not take cash......
  14. Sorry I did not mean to come across so sharp. Yes care must be taken if you buy from the store instead of raising it. That along includes meat, except I do not know how to wash hamburger. But then I still not wash with bleach. Nor do I like bleach or fluoride in my water. A chicken might get scrubbed with Dawn .....or peroxide
  15. I have canned many new potatoes , peelingthem turns them brown, and if you want the skins off you scrub them. Would you tell me why you would want to poison your food with bleach??? Leave the skins on but don't be surprised if they come off during canning. The skin is exceptionally tender and just washing them will peel portions.
  16. Yes,they will be acclimated to your area/climate/soil. I was just out looking at my volunteers. They are very healthy,2 plants are volunteers from a plant of 4 years ago. They look so much better than the plants from seeds I planted this spring. That is just one reason to save seeds
  17. I would move the rocks, which will hold heat and put cardboard behind them if that is a metal fence they are close to. In the heat of the day, put wet card board boxes or wet excelsoir, above them, which would provide moisture and shade. I remember one hot summer every thing was scalding. We put white sheets over the tomato cages and over other plants. Your plan for a late garden sounds like a winner too.
  18. Kappy, I am sorry you are dealing with so much pain! Please do your research. I had serious back pain and spasms for over 30 years, and a understand what you are going through. Have you tried a chiropractor? Good for you, John! This totally obeying the doctor even if it kills you or makes you worse....
  19. My 'pruners' pruned my salad tomatoes...need to get the Irish Spring out.
  20. I clipped the tomatoes to their supports, weeded some and decided it was too humid to mow, already feels like 93 at 9 a.m. though it is actually 82. We got nearly 2 inches of rain before daybreak and the humidity took my breath away. Ann, I did not plant beets this year, they do do poorly here. Guess I will sew, have 3 dresses on order for my sister, she has decided to only wear what I make for her.
  21. Cool, heavy rain ,at times, here too. Don't know how much we have gotten, but the garden certainly likes it.
  22. My reusables are in the barn..........if it is not in there, I don't need it :-)
  23. Sounds just like a starlings or in my case it was an angry mother turkey that once again lost her babies to cold rain. I felt so bad for her, never bothered her just watched her nip or pull up all my flowers in one bed. I heard stuff??? rolling down the wall so got a 6 pk of Irish Spring , cut 4 of the bars in fourths and tossed them as far as I could in all directions. Guess it worked, all is quiet now. I smelled something a couple of days but I think the soap keeps them from getting rank.
  24. My pruners have not bothered err pruned my garden since I hung Irish Spring in the branches. They were keeping my tomatoes at about 9 inches. They always allowed 6-9 inches growth before pruning again.
