  1. I think they used different bottles. I don't see how the top could be put on unless it was taped in place. Trying to melt the top back onto the bottle would create a mess I think. Maybe there are two differnt ways of doing it? Cut the top off and fill with soil & bulbs, and cut/melt holes in the bottle & pour the soil in, then plant the bulbs through the holes. That's my guess. John
  2. Nope, the neck is on the bottle. Maybe only cut off a 2 litre bottle? The bottle with the blue top looks larger than a 2 litre to me. John
  3. Hmmmm, that is a thought I will have to consider, thanks! John
  4. It's already 3 years old. I usually don't get concerned until something hits 5 years. I have so much of it I don't want to risk losing any of it. I'm a sucker for case sales. John
  5. I'm out of the paste but I have a lot of the sauce (case sale). I would rather use it than throw it away. John

Snowmom, I went to the local feed store and they were out of Corn Huskers lotion. But, I guess Mrs. Wormie read this because she came home with a bottle of CeraVe. ooth hit a home run...since I have been using it I have not had any itching at all. Guess I need to keep a couple bottles in stock. Thanks again for all the suggestions. John
  7. 13 quarts of chili today. Thinking about strawberry jam tomorrow. John
  8. Thanks Scrubbie, I didn't use it cause I don't want sweet chili. Maybe I can use it when I do spaghetti sauce next year. John
  9. I'm going to can some chili tomorrow and I have a bunch of tomato sauce (8 oz. cans) that I'm thinking about adding to the mix just to use it up. I'm not sure how it will affect the taste tho. Anyone done this before or should I not add it? John

Different socks for winter? Same socks year round. Long johns? Just started wearing them last week. Different pants for winter? Nope, same as socks. Either could be rubbing/fitting a certain way there? I don't see how with wearing the same pants & boots. Boots? Same boots year round. Winter clothes being a different material that what's worn the rest of the year (wool?), perhaps and again, fitting a certain way? I don't think so. Dryer dried clothes instead of hung-dried and using something different? Same dryer sheets, same detergent. Or something such as using dryer sheets in the winter? Use the year round. Good points that I had not thought of but I wear the same clothes all the time and they are washed and dried the same year round. John
  12. Gun Plumber, I made 2 cherry cream cheese pies for today. Each one of them has 3,750 calories and 150 grams of fat. Wish I could dehydrate them.

I just had a thought. What if I put some honey on the areas and wraped them up? Wadda ya'll think? John
  14. I just now remembered this subject. (Must be the drugs...my back is real bad today), I bought two corn cutters like the ones in the video link I posted. They both worked the same...not very well. I tried them after I had blanched the corn and they left more than I like on the cob. Also my ears were not the big, fully filled top to bottom like I see in the store. I dehydrated about 800 ears and hoped this would speed up the process. I ended up using one like Out-of-the-Ordinary linked to. I plowed the garden for next year and almost doubled it in size. I will try the cutters again but I will cut the corn and then blanch it to see if the process works like in the video. John

Thank you ladies! I will call Darlene next week and she what she thinks. Then I will try the crisco since I have some. Then I will try the bag balm, then the Say Yes To Carrott Butter, and finally the CeraVe. I'll give each item a two week trial before I switch the the next one. I hope something works. John

    Dry Skin

My name is Wormie and I have a problem. Every winter I get an area of very dry skin on the inside of both legs from mid-calf down the the ankle bone. I put lotion on them but it does not help. I have scratched them so much that I get brusies. This has been going on for about 4-5 years. When I'm in the shower the hot water makes me want to scream because it itches so much, and it is all I can do to not start scratching. I have tried different brands of soap and lotion and nothing helps. We make our own laundry soap and have been for about 7 years. No other part of my body gets like this and it only happens when the weather turns cold. I know that winter weather is dryer than in the summer, but I don't understand why it is only a part of my legs. Does any one have any suggestions? John
  17. They have come out with an automatice jam & jelly maker. I have never timed it but I don't think it takes me 30 minutes of cooking to make a batch of jam. I'm thinking more like 10-15 mintues from start to finish, then into the jars it goes. http://www.freshpreservingstore.com/ball-freshtech-automatic-jam-jelly-maker/shop/383381/#itemDescription John
  18. Sorry, I just can't see using this with it's limited capacity and it's price. It may have a place in someones kitchen that can spend that kind of money and then watch it get unused. In this economy I would think that they would try to come up with something quite a lot cheaper. But, the water bath canner's are not pricey if you go to auctions & such plus any pot will do as long as it covers the jars properly & has at least a small towel/cloth in the bottom. Also it stated that a person should only use their recipes...I'm out of luck using the Ball Blue Book? Seems like I am. I do not see where this will get more novice or nervous canners willing to try their "luck" at canning. I wish them luck, I think they will need it. John
  19. I was thinking about you last week, wondering how you were doing. Glad things are getting better. John
  20. That's how I do apple and pear butter. I have a batch of pear butter to can today, John
  21. I got this e-mail today. According to the "quiz" I need four shots. Dear Subscribers, The new and improved Adolescent and Adult Quiz is now live! Thank you for your continued efforts in supporting and working to promote adult and adolescent immunizations. It is important to keep in mind that adults and adolescents also need vaccines. Many adults are not aware of this and vaccination rates among adults are especially low. Vaccines may be recommended for adults based on their age, lifestyle, or health condition that could put adults at higher risk for severe complications due to vaccine preventable diseases. You may access the quiz at: http://www2a.cdc.gov/nip/adultimmsched/ The Adolescent and Adult Immunization Quiz has been updated to make it easier for the public to determine which vaccines they might need. Some highlights include: Updated with latest vaccine recommendations Revised questions related to the patients’ health and lifestyle that may impact their vaccine needs The patient is able to print their list of suggested recommended vaccines and take to their healthcare provider to discuss which vaccines they should get If there are questions or you need more information about the quiz, contact CDC-INFO in English or Spanish at 1-800-CDC-INFO or 1-800-232-4636 or email at cdcinfo@cdc.gov.
