  1. A party sounds great! I didn't realize so many people had been gone. Welcome back everyone who has been away!
  2. Thanks, everyone! It's good to be back! I've missed you all! Mt_Rider, you are probably right. It was probably one of those crazy things that happen! Gosh, so much has happened since I was last here! I think I had my baby by the last time I logged on. He is definitely our last! He's 6 now and the sweetest, most ornery little thing! My oldest is now in HS and we have two more in MS. We were able to adopt our daughter, whom we've had since she was a year old. That was one of the best days of my life. <3 We moved again since our last house was a temporary thing, but are back to our old neighborhood. I went back to school again and am just finishing up with an AAS in CIS. It's pretty exciting! Right after the recession, I had tried to get a job for over a year...between 125-150 resumes submitted in a year and only 2 calls. This new degree should really help. Apparently, the unemployment rate in this area for IT jobs is hovering around 2.3%. In the meantime, I've let my stores and preps fall behind, unfortunately. It's time to get serious again. I can't wait to catch up with all of you and hang out. G&V
  3. For some reason, I haven't been able to log onto here for years!! I've tried to reset my password, create a new user profile, etc... but have not been able to log on! I've even tried several computers and IP addresses. After a very long time, I decided to give it a try tonight and am finally able to log on! Honestly, it's so strange, I really can't figure it out. One day, my logon just wouldn't work anymore. It kept saying my password wasn't right, but wouldn't let me reset. Anyway, hi to everyone! I'm not sure if any of you even remember me anymore... I'm friends with a couple of you on FB, but am really excited and happy to be back on here. I can't wait to catch up on all I've missed! G&V
  4. Thanks so much everyone! He's already started to get his own personality and I'm in love!
  5. I am so happy to announce the birth of baby Elijah "Eli" William, born on Saturday, August 20, 2011. He weighs 8 lbs, 6 oz and is 20" long. I don't have time to post the birth story right now, but I'll come back and post it soon.
  6. Denver approves measure to allow chickens, goats in yards DENVER - If you live in Denver, you could soon wake up to goats, chickens and ducks in your neighbor's yard. Monday night, the Denver City Council passed a proposal that will allow residents to have up to six food-producing animals on their property. Of those six animals, there can only be a maximum of two goats. Supporters pushed for the bill for the opportunity to produce food, such as eggs, but opponents say Denver is not rural enough for farm animals. The bill passed on a 7 to 3 vote. http://www.9news.com/news/local/article/204193/346/Denver-approves-measure-to-allow-chickens-goats-in-yards-
  7. I got 2 wrong, but I guessed on a couple that I got right.
  8. Michael, you're right about the warehouse stores. The only thing we saved money on was the diapers and some spices. Now that I've done my homework, I've found I can get better deals on most things through co-ops and other places.
  9. We started out the week at around $2.89 or so, although I actually paid $2.75 with a grocery store club card. Today, it's up to $3.09, or $3.06 with my 3 cent discount. I filled up because I'm afraid of what it will be next week.
  10. Also, I've added some of this mixture to homemade chicken stock and some veggies for a really tasty soup.
  11. One meal that is really good and filling and makes a lot is lentil/rice taco mixture. One cup of dry lentils with some chopped up onion in 4 cups of water, cook for 45 minutes. While that is cooking, make 2 cups of rice (1 cup uncooked rice to 2 cups water). Once both are done, add the rice to the lentils and then add about 6 tsps taco seasoning. (Mine is homemade and is really cheap) This is really good with a little sour cream and hot sauce, or a little shredded cheese. Usually I add in some cooked hamburger for flavor, too, but it's not necessary. Serve like tacos or burritos on homemade tortillas. This makes a TON of food and I usually have to freeze half.
  12. An army sniper friend of ours (he's not full time active, but I think he's reserves right now) had to go visit a base the other day. He started posting things about how China has EMP and stealth tech and what would you do if they invaded, and then in another post offered to start giving his friends marksmanship classes for free and getting his friends ready. Talking about checking your priorities and readiness. "What do you have to bring to the table" type things. He won't give any specifics about why he's suddenly posting strange things like this, but I thought it was pretty odd.
  13. We have King Soopers, which is the same as Krogers. My DH once found large packages of diapers for $2 a pack! 2 of the packs were the size we needed and one wasn't, but we got them all anyway. My Gram taught me to always check the back of any grocery store for their markdowns. I've bought 5-6 boxes of Stash tea for 25 cents each, pie filling for super cheap, etc. I've never seen actual cases of anything, though. Nice find!
  14. I missed my turn. The last time I looked, I still had 3 hours + to go, but then completely forgot about it.
  15. Ha ha...6 hours 10 minutes! I'll keep it open and maybe I'll remember to check it.
  16. Yay! Congratulations! It's very well written.
  17. Is there any way to make your own pectin? I've never made my own jelly or jam, but if things got bad and there was none and I didn't have pectin, could it be made?
  18. Michael, that was not a real "giveaway" of the ending. No surprises ruined!! Is it really a surprise that you need tissues for the end of a Hallmark movie?
  19. I saw it...stupid Hallmark movies! I was bawling and I even woke up with my eyes a little puffy from it. The end got me when her dh was hugging her while she looked at the rose.
  20. Sorry you're feeling so sick! I just went through it, so I feel for you! Get some rest and feel better quick.
  21. My grandmother had the most beautiful cursive writing. She told me about how they learned cursive numbers when she was in grade school. I think it's a lost art form. I mostly write in cursive with a few printed letters thrown in, once in a while.
  22. MomM - Thank you! Necie - I actually have some 24 hour chicken stock brewing on the stove, right now. I will probably dip into it before it's been a whole 24 hours, though. I was able to make some good soup with beef broth and I added some cayenne powder to it. It didn't seem like much, but the kiddos couldn't eat it, so I ate the whole thing in a few settings. It seemed to help some. I've also been allowing myself a 1/2 cup of coffee in the mornings. So many people say that you shouldn't have it when you're pregnant, but I have so many friends that drank 3-4 Dr. Pepper's or other highly caffeinated beverages while pregnant, and their kids were just fine. Scrubbie - I definitely can't lay on my back! It makes it all settle in the back of my throat and then I feel like I'm choking. Yuck! I've been sleeping on my side with my upper body elevated. I don't think I could sleep sitting all the way up, though. The heating pad sounds nice. I'll have to get dh to pick up some super hot salsa on his way home from work today. Thanks again, everyone. I really appreciate all of the suggestions and help you've been able to share. I don't really know anyone in RL that knows these things; they would all rather just go to the pharmacy and grab something off the shelf.
  23. Thanks so much for the congrats on the baby! I wasn't really ready to announce it yet, given that I'm only 10 1/2 weeks, but there you go. Motherhen - Thanks for the garlic and honey advice. I've been using a lot of honey, but haven't been able to get to the store for some garlic. I'll have to get some asap! When I went in to the doctor's, they told me that my oxygen was good, so I didn't have to take any inhalers. I did feel like taking them, though! Ambergris - I had DH "clop" on my back and I had a hacking fit! I'm not sure if it worked, though. Jori - thanks for the list from your OB. My doctor was telling me that it's ok to take Advil, but that counters the advice I got in my previous pregnancies. I wish I would have had the list of cold meds earlier, though! It might have helped it not settle in my chest. S.K. - I did use Vick's on my chest and it seemed to help, but I didn't do it on my feet. I should have thought of it, though, because I've done that for my kids. Thanks! I am feeling a little bit better today, so I'm sure things will be clearing up soon. I'll definitely be adding more onion and garlic to our diets for the winter. I'm sure that our mostly good, traditional diets are what kept the duration of our kids' flu down. Two days is pretty good.
