  1. I broke down & wept in the shower last night. The stresses in the house got to me. Planted 3 rows of fava beans and transplanted a couple tomatillo plants. Happy birthday Mary.
  2. We have jumping cactus & prickly pear. ...and a lot of books....
  3. Oh, he did, ‘...probably not much less...’ and it would need to be done by an oral surgeon. Had to put it on a credit card. The tooth was broken down below the gum line. UPS man told us to sanitize our deliveries, a man at the distribution center in Phx. tested positive. I have a small bucket with Lysol solution and a rag, which I am using on everything. Storm soaking up the sunshine...
  4. The chat box is an older app. The designer quit updating the ‘free’ app and now charges for it. I haven’t found another app to replace it, yet. I’ll check with Darlene to see if she wants me to delete it.
  5. When you think you are prepared.... the unexpected happens. DH lost 1/2 of a filled molar. The dentist took him, which was a blessing, however, he called me.. the cost to repair it was almost $1,000.!!! to be paid in advance. The shock made my chest hurt & gave me a stomach ache. On the bright side of life, a neighbor gave us 6 dozen bread sticks, 6 bundles of fresh broccoli, and a bag of lemons, she brought home a case of each, left over from the food bank distribution. Chopped, blanched and froze the broccoli and vacuum sealed and froze the bread. Just trying to entertain and take care of DH & MIL and the Dee-oh-geez. Here’s Storm, entertaining himself... DH said, “...taste the rainbow...”. And the camomile is taking over the spice garden and the lawn... DH got me a bag of fava beans, non-GMO heirloom. Started a batch soaking yesterday, I need to turn the soil to be able to plant a couple of rows. Plus, transplant the volunteer tomatillo plants, in that area.
  6. Mom is here. They brought her perishables, anti-bacterial dish soap, (yucky smell & allergies, I’m hoping never to have to use it.), a package of TP & a roll of paper towels. Yeah, things are upside down here, it’s a small house. Limited space, I gave up my bed, but refused to give up my only kitchen chair. It’s one of the only places I can sit comfortably and I need to sit when I’m working in the kitchen. Or reading. I gave her the chair/stool instead. She’s uncomfortable, DH is uncomfortable and I’m trying to keep the peace. I normally do not watch the news or any TV, but, with mom here, the TV is on a lot. Good grief!!! Honestly, I had no idea how crazy things are out there. DH keeps up on thing via the internet, but hadn’t said how bad things are. And, then, there’s replays of football the rest of the day. Today the news said our governor isn’t issuing a stay at home mandate. I spent the day, putting the food up, they brought from TX, then, emptied his suitcase and put it up. Made corned beef and cabbage, had to get a head of cabbage, because the 1/2 head I had in the crisper, had a little black mold on most of the leaves. Feeding my 89 year old MIL, I didn’t want to take any chance. The guys at the market went in ‘back’ and brought me a head, because the cooler only had lettuce. We are limiting our customers. 100’s of calls asking for the same thing. We all are carrying. Yup, even Mom. Lol. We don’t need someone doing something stupid, especially with her here. Customers are directed to the back yard, business is conducted on the back porch. Money, debit cards, ink pens, and chairs are wiped down with Lysol. Everyone seems to appreciate our caution. Big dogs stay in the house with mom. The pups don’t appreciate not being able to see/smell the people coming over. Nice to see everyone hanging in there and staying safe. I have been wondering....
  7. Thought you’d like to see this: https://imgur.com/gallery/FxkWnWv
  8. Cleaned house today. Converted our bedroom for mom. Emptied drawers, bagged winter cloths, laundry for hours. Sheets dried quicker on the line, than, in the dryer. Puppies didn’t like being outside all day. IDK, with customers scheduled all next week, I really can’t re-arrange the living room to accommodate Mom, but after the rush, and when we are sold out of the inventory coming in, it should be easier. Yesterday, I made French bread & a batch of cinnamon rolls, 1/2 for DH & mom, 1/2 for the elderly neighbor lady. She came over to the fence & asked if all was well with us. We chatted a bit and she expressed her concerns. Because I’ve made them for her, in the past, and she couldn’t find any, I gave her 1/2 the batch. She helps at the church food bank, and said, they are filling boxes & handing them thru car windows, to avoid contact. I also gave her some of the hand sanitizer I had made. She went shopping yesterday and was frightened how bare the shelves were. I dug up some camomile & mint & put it in a pot for her, and told her how to boil it for tea. Good stuff to relax. Especially with all the panic going on. DH found flour in TX. Today he has been busy packing Mom up. He’s bringing a lot of her supplies. I’m very concerned. I planted some butternut squash seeds today, that had soaked a couple of days. DH ordered more fava beans, which should be in by Wednesday. I have room for 3 rows. He really likes them. Yesterday, I also planted a row of black eyed peas. One zucchini has sprouted. I’ll plant more if the other seeds don’t sprout. The tomatoes are doing good, 3 tomatoes on the vine already growing, The Mexican oregano is growing again too! Hopefully, the basil will come back, or all the seeds I scattered in that area will sprout, if not, we still have the plant in the kitchen that is doing well. The celery, beets, carrots, & cabbage are all growing great. PTL. DH loves them. AZ is too hot for lettuce.... might plant it in the winter, next year. We’ll see. It only last so long in the frig, so... there’s that too. Whacked down the weeds outside the yard, city put a notice they will fine us for any weeds over 6” tall. Really? DH’s friend asked if I’d let him poison them...”only on the outside of the yard.” I have never used poison inside the yard. Don’t wanna eat it. Still, every year the city sprays, it kills our lawn, about 3 foot in, after the monsoon floods. It is what it is. Can’t tell the city “don’t” At least they quit doing the alley next to the garden. One year, I stopped them. Gave them a couple ripe tomatoes, that they had over sprayed. I smiled politely and said ‘enjoy’. I always take extra time to whack down those weeds now. Lol. Gotta go set up the air mattress for us... sighTold DH, if Moms gonna stay longer, we need to get another bed. I can handle that.
  9. God bless you, Miki. I needed that, more than you will ever know.
  10. Jeepers, DH said to look at the shipping options, gift or secure in a box? IDK, cause I don’t order much, DH does.
  11. MIL is coming.... Gotta clean house. Gotta find a way to put up a bed for us, she’ll get our bed. Gotta do so much! Made a couple loaves of French bread today and a couple batches of cinnamon rolls, one for the neighbor lady, & one for DH & MIL. Now, I’m trying to figure out what to do for her. OMG, I didn’t expect her to want to come.
  12. Went to the store, around 7:30 am. I got most everything on my list, minus pinto beans and lasagna noodles No biggie. One item per customer for meat, paper products cleaning products and eggs & milk. PTL they let 2 packages of veggies go. I actually asked the regional manager if I needed to return the items in my cart. 🙁. She said no. Got chicken, beef, hotdogs, & corned beef, butter, paper plates, and a few extra spices. Went to the local market, got another bag of flour. All purpose. Yuck. I usually only get unbleached. Meh,not a biggie. DHtexed me saying he found my unbleached flour in TX & got 2 bags. Tomorrow, I hope to make more French bread for him, & vacuum seal it. An estranged neighbor came over, at the fence, calling out to me. She helps at the food bank & wanted to know if we are ok. Talked with her for a while. Gave her some hand sanitizer I made today. A leaf of aloe & 91% alcohol, liquified. I made a pint& gave her 1/2.. asking for my jar back. I will make more tomorrow. The aloe is growing great, with the rain we’ve had.. here’s one cutting... it made 1 1/2 cups...
  13. I wouldn’t doubt it. Easy to “return to sender”.
  14. I heard, $1,000. I won’t believe it till I see it. Then, withdraw the $$ immediately, to make sure they don’t take it back. However, watch out for taxes.....
  15. Got DH off to TX this morning. MIL needed milk, cereal, corn tortillas, meat & her bean soup, in addition, I tossed a couple packages of ham & a couple of cinnamon rolls in the ice chest for her. She said her stores were empty too. Our little market had everything she needed. They said, they are having to drive from store to store to replenish their shelves. No flour anywhere. DH’s friend visited last night, he got some extra seeds, a camomile, tomatillo plants and some peppermint, from the garden and, a carton of eggs. The hens are laying regularly now, He promised to share his harvest, after he got a jar of green chili enchilada sauce and salsa. Also promised to bring my jars back. He’s a good kid. He brought me another pair of pruning sheers and sharpened mine. The phone rang constantly yesterday, customers wanting supplies. Almost sold out by 4 pm. People coming from north Phoenix and Tucson, saying all the stores were sold out. Thank God, DH ordered last week. As of yesterday afternoon, most of our vendors were sold out too. We got in our latest order this morning. I asked the UPS man if I needed to sign, as usual, he said, “...they were notified this morning, not to hand the terminal to the customers, instead, eye to eye contact, and enter the code “ corona19” into the machine & the customers last name. “. Paid the bills, and noticed our town is fining us, this week, for not cutting the weeds. I started mowing.... and it started to rain. Lightening, thunder and a heavy rain. Switched the laundry and covered the washer and dryer, before it got too heavy. Gunny is moping around, missing his daddy. Storm is crashed out within line of sight, as usual. I move... and I have a Velcro dog at my side. Sheesh! Getting ready to vacuum seal some bulk sandwich meats DH likes, into smaller packages and freeze them. Probably focus on doing little thing around the house.... because it’s RAINING! PTL! Lol, I looked up, out the kitchen window, towards the area I feed the birds... there are a bunch of them waiting for the 4pm feeding. Some are hiding under the wheelbarrow from the rain..... waiting.. others are sitting in the tree looking down at the area. I guess I can feed them 10 minutes early.
  16. Keeping everyone wrapped in We went out target practicing yesterday, with “Luna’s” parents. She’s gained some weight and has mellowed out. Got lots of love & kisses from her. Luna’s parents both work for major hospitals in Phoenix. They are both tired of hearing everyone panic. “Just wash your hands & don’t touch your face..”. They said the virus only spreads through the mucus membranes. Mentioned one of the nurses in the hospital was telling people she had a Covid patient, but tests proved it was just the flu. That nurse is going to be fired for causing panic. They also mentioned, people are stealing the masks, gloves & hand sanitizers from the hospitals. Including the whole dispensers off the walls! Wow. Saturday & Sunday, the town had a music festival at the city park. Loud enough, we could hear it from our house. Sat. was older rock music & Sun. was country. When we drove by, I couldn’t believe how many people were there, motor homes, tents, and hundreds of cars, then, when we passed the bar-n-grill, on the highway, there had to be over 200 people there. People were even parked along the road. DH said TPTB have cancelled Country Thunder. Sorry, that event messes our town up, every year. The one road north, gets so crowded, it takes hours to drive 3 miles. Only one road into the event. The people aren’t allowed into town to purchase anything, they are supposed to buy it from the vendors at the event, but it doesn’t stop them from trying. Drunks everywhere, and, we’ve seen people stealing barbecue grills and other stuff, from yards, here in town. Last year, someone tried to take our next door neighbors camping trailer, until they were unable to get the padlock off the hitch & saw me walk out front to investigate. So we won’t have 100,000+ people driving in this year. Today is house cleaning day. And, it is a mess. We had 3 days of rain last week and the boys left their marks on all the floors. There is just so much you can do, to keep their feet cleaned off. We’ve had to do the floors a couple of times already. Lol. Well, the woodpecker just reminded me I need to fill the hummingbird feeders, again. The hummers, woodpeckers, house finches, honey bees, & wasps, empty them in 3 days. I will wash the feeders with bleach, again, this time around, it seems to detour the bees for a few days. My garden is volunteering plants this year, beets & tomatillos. I still need to finish turning some of the soil and plant something, but I haven’t had a lot of energy to get it done, yet. God willing, this week sometime.
  17. Pixie! Welcome back! How have you been?
  18. Confirmed cases in our county. We have major detention facilities here, and most of the population works for them, or has family that do. LOL, yeah, TP shortage? A customer came over & gave us a package of tissues, saying everywhere he stopped they were out of TP. It was meant as a joke, due to the panic. We are taking every precaution, praying, and trusting God. for everyone...
  19. It rained last night, starting around 7:30 on. Off and on sprinkles then raining well. Absolutely beautiful and so very refreshing. It’s dawn and the birds are happily singing everywhere. Even a cactus wren is joyfully singing. Rain! I don’t have to water the yard and gardens, and, I put some manure in a 5 gallon bucket out to soak the rain up. Rain! Real rain! The pups do not like wet toes. Storm, really? The one who loves playing in the hose and sprinkler? He gets so excited, he has made my hose a soaker... yup, bit holes in it. New 75 ft. hose is on my shopping list. The new row of beets is sprouting and so are several volunteer tomatillos. The camomile is so prolific this year, I gave a plastic grocery bag full to one neighbor and am adding a bit of fresh peppermint to my tea, with a touch of honey. With this years harvest, we should have enough for years to come. Kappydell, keep up with your PT. I am anticipating hearing you are back to normal activities. They are unable to fix my back, sadly, because the discs herniated into my spinal column. My brother has rods in his neck & back and claims he is doing more than before surgery and feeling much better. Glad you are up and walking your pup again, Mt_Rider, and that icicle didn’t harm anything. Green veggies..... nomnomnom... Made thin crust, mushroom, pepperoni, black olive, pizza the other day, his had jalapeños, mine had extra cheese. Then, made lasagna roll ups yesterday in a cast iron pan. I only had 4 noodles, but they filled the pan to the brim! Added home made garlic toast and we had a feast. Only 2 rolls left in the freezer, so I will be making more soon. Tastes completely different from store bought French bread. Nice!
  20. Beautiful day yesterday. Cleaned house, semi cloudy day, around 84*. We took a ride out in the desert to collect manure to make tea for the garden. Took a couple of wild flower pictures.
  21. Busy, as usual, with monthly bookkeeping. Re-framed the painting, because the other frame just wasn’t right. Turned more of the big garden, still have about 1/3 to do before it’s done. The tomato sprouts died, so I cheated & bought 3 plants. Planted another row of beets, and some zucchini. It appears there are some volunteer tomatillos beginning to grow. The camomile is everywhere. It’s ok, I like it and it has pretty flowers. The Mexican oregano and jalapeños are beginning to sprout new leaves. Also, more volunteer celery is growing in the spice garden and in the corner garden. I transplanted all my iris bulbs around the edge of the corner garden, and they are flourishing... Beets & carrots. We’ve had several meals with the beet greens. Then, the big garden, tomatoes, onions, beets, zucchini and cabbage, so far. We took the boys to the lake yesterday. Storms first time out on adventure. He whined a bit in the car, probably worried we were giving him away. But, he seemed to enjoy the “see & do” time.Gunny jumped right in, swam around, then, as usual, he was ready to go home. We joke, he has fun for 15 minutes and is done. It took Storm a while to figure out he could get in, he got a little excited, then, clung to me like Velcro. After we got home, DH let him “wash off” in the sprinkler & I dried him. Look at that tummy he’s getting. Lol
