  1. I just wanted to say Thank You! I never thought about my dental issues like this - take care of it now while you can because you may not be able to when it becomes really important. I have two teeth that need to come out but I have this major aversion to dentists. It's not that I cry or freak out when I have to go - I just simply don't go. At all. I will try to call tomorrow for an appointment - hopefully there is a long wait (just kidding - sorta ) I hope you are able to get yours taken care of soon and get some relief.
  2. I just bought two large bottles at Sam's and the expiration date is July 2013. So as long as everything looked and smelled ok - I would think at least a year after that.
  3. I checked their website today. They are ceasing operations all together although it seems like someone is still trying to make a go of it: "Angel Food Ministries has considered many options regarding our future. At this time we regret to inform you that we have not found a solution that will allow Angel Food Ministries to continue to distribute food on a monthly basis and have decided to cease operations. We realize the pressure that this places on our host sites, community food banks and customers. However, there is a group of former employees and food vendors that are working to find
  4. Thanks Violet! I will order the new vent pipe and weight set.
  5. Ok. next question I forgot to ask something when I called yesterday so I called Presto again this morning. This is a dial gauge canner and the dial is wrong (reads 2lbs sitting on my desk!) so I want to change this to a weight gauge. I asked if the 3 piece weight would fit this vent pipe or if I needed to order a new vent pipe. I was told that the weighted gauge was not made for this canner and even though others may have done that it doesn't mean it is safe!?! Ok, maybe I have misunderstood what I have read but I thought you could change just about any dial gauge canner to the wei
  6. Thanks CoM. I called them yesterday and was told that was the correct part for this canner. They also told me there was a date code on the bottom but there is nothing there. Maybe it was worn off over the years? I was curious to see how old this canner is. All I know is it is older than 1977. Thanks, Angela
  7. I now have my Granny's canner that she used for years and years - canning who knows how many quarts of veggies! It sat unused for the past several years - probably 10. I know I need to replace the seal and the air vent. Do I need to replace the vent pipe also? I found those on pressurecooker-outlet.com but there is a notation about the air vent. It says "Used on cookers and canners built prior to 1977. Allows excess steam to escape. Not for use with pressure cookers or canners manufactured since 1977 which contain a combination air vent/cover lock." The picture looks just like the one that
  8. Hi Miki - I don't post much but I just wanted to say what a wonderful place that looks like. It doesn't look scary to me - it looks like home. I just love older country homes with porches and big trees! And what a tree! Angela
  9. Oh please don't prune me!! That happened to me recently on another board. At least I think that is what it was. Like here, I didn't post much but it said I had been banned forever! I sent a message asking but got no response. Wow - look at that - 2 posts in one week! I am blazing now - snicker! If I keep this up I will lose my lurker statis. Angela
  10. Well, I joined in '07 but since this is only my 4th post I think I am still classified as a lurker! I don't get here as much as I would like to but I do really enjoying reading here! Angela
  11. I don't know what the heck kept me from posting for so long. Thanks for all the Welcomes and Hellos. Angela
  12. Thanks for all the Welcomes and the reassurances about canning! Homemaker - I was born and raised in Roanoke! My family is still lives there so I am in Roanoke frequently - at least once a month. Angela
  13. Well, I have been lurking around here for a good while and finally decided I needed to say hello! I live in a fairly rural part of south central Virginia. Just the hubby and me - no children. We have horses, goats, chickens, dogs, & cats. And most recently, the opossum that has moved in under the house! We have a small house with no closets or storage space so trying to store things or stock up is becoming a challenge. We are also both pack rats which makes it even worse! We are going to get serious about gardening this year (or at least try to.) The last couple of years since we m
