  1. All I did today is cough. Crimony. I got a call from the furniture guy. Elmer is delivering it on the 16th. I think I'm going to cancel my doctor appointment on the 15th. and reschedule. It's just with a nurse for a blood pressure check. I won't even be seeing the real doctor. The appointment isn't until after 3:00 and by the time I get out and drive to Indy it will be after 10:00pm. Then get up early the next morning for the delivery. Not going to do it. Last time I went over I became drowsy and that was with sleep. DIL could go and let him in but, I owe for the furniture and I also owe son some money that I want to get paid. I hate to go over sick but I'm not getting better any time soon. Might as well go get it over with. It will be nice to get my dining room in order. One room down. After I repair the holes I put in the wall. Then my Project Manager called. They have a dilemma with another house. He wants to buy the left over floor tile that I had at the house. I didn't let on but that would help me out in the long run. I don't want it and I wouldn't have to move it. I have about 12 boxes and they are HEAVY ceramic tiles. If the other guy likes them then...sold! I don't even care the price. I was wondering what I was going to do with them. Hope they take it off of my hands.
  2. Not being able to drive is my motivating factor for prepping up my house. That scares me. Even if I could get to town only once a month that would be a big help. Especially with doctor appointments etc. Son and DIL are good to me but what if they became disabled. Or worse. I suppose I could rely on Amazon for food deliveries. As long as there still is an Amazon, ya know. And trucks still run. I don't think any of the local stores over there will deliver out to me 10 miles away. . I'm sure it would cost me dearly. Senior services 'might' be available. Not sure. I want to get prepped and stay prepped. Hopefully this will be my year for some food security.
  3. I just now got the same text as the one I posted up above. So two exact ones. Either they are still out of the vitamin or else the other vitamin I take is also on back order. BTW, when they send me a med alert they never type out the entire name of the med. Just the first 3 letters followed by X's. Maybe a privacy issue? That's why I don't know which vitamin it is. Either B-12 or D-3. Probably wouldn't hurt to go pick up a couple of bottles. Or Amazon them. I take 1,000 of the B-12 and 5,000 of the D-3 so they are easy to get. Unless you're a pharmacy that is.
  4. Hope you don't catch it too Littlesister. Mine started with a stuffy nose and sneezing. I'm debating on whether or not to go to the clinic. I can't stop coughing. I know it's bronchitis again but I don't know what they can do for it. Last time it was Ampicillin and I had a bad reaction to that mess. Plus I don't want to pick up any more germs in there. Other than the cough, I don't really feel that bad. Mt. Rider, I'll will be anxious to hear about your newest purchase. But you are so correct about the dangers of a power outage in the winter. Things can go south very quickly. With long lasting effects. I'm not going to feel secure again until I can get moved. Being all alone with no backup isn't easy. Even down to the little things like needing a ride someplace. My Jeep's back bumper is still damaged from where I backed into my garage LAST YEAR. I can't really get it fixed due to no ride. I can get it to the shop but how to get from the shop back to the hotel. Then when it's finished, how to get to the shop to pick it back up. It's often those little things that people don't think about. In Indiana either son or DIL can easily give me a ride. No ride for that tilt table test and no ride for a colonoscopy. Not complaining about it. I could hire 'someone' but I'm not going to.
  5. We don't have any big grocery chains where I'm at and also none in Indiana where I'll be. Unless you want to count Meijers and Wal-Mart.
  6. Thank You Littlesister! That is so sweet of you. I was able to get it at Walgreens when I needed it for my eardrum. I'm keeping a couple of bottles of that and Flonase that the doctor recommended. Both good for getting rid of the fluid build up in the inner ear. I used them both at the same time. You are only supposed to take it for 3 days in a row. Here is how the doctor had me use the Afrin for two weeks: 2 pumps in each nostril - 2 times a day, AM and PM I made a chart with sticks on it for when I used the Afrin. Then I marked them off as I used it. Otherwise I would have never remembered. Day 1 | | Day 2 | | Day 3 | | Stop taking for 7 days: I put the day of the week I started on my off week so I could be sure I was on track. Mon. Tue. Wed. Thur. Fri. Sat. Sun. Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7 | Day 1 | | Day 2 | | Day 3 | |
  7. I've never lived around a Kroger but I heard they were high. I occasionally watch a shopper who goes around comparing prices. He must have a photographic memory because he remembers all the prices from everywhere and even what they were a year ago. Anyway, he said Kroger was always the highest except for the fact that they always have the best sales. So you can save money there if you shop the sales. I wish we had the kind of grocery stores like they have down south where they have the 'buy one...get one' sales. We never have those. It might be Publix or Piggly-Wiggly?
  8. Still no bill from the ambulance company. Maybe they forgot about me. I wish I could send a screen shot from my phone but that is beyond my capability. Anyway, I got a text message today from my pharmacy. I thought maybe one of my meds was ready for pick up. Nope. It said: "Giant Eagle Rx: Hi Jeepers (not my real name), VITXXXX we are filling for you is out of stock and will be ordered. Orders are sent nightly and arrive weekdays and Saturdays by 2:30 PM. If you have questions, please call (number)." They are out of a vitamin and can't fill it? I don't know if it's the B-12 or the D-3. I take both. I'm just reporting how things in the med world is getting difficult to get. This isn't the first time my meds have been backordered but it is the first time they sent a message saying it will be delayed. This is only a vitamin and not that important to me. I still have plenty and could get it OTC if it was something I really needed. I'm just surprised that my pharmacy can't get a common vitamin and they alerted me to the fact. BTW, I never did get the Afrin that was prescribed a couple of months ago. Either there really is a shortage OR the insurance companies want us to pay for our own meds we can get OTC.
  9. Thanks MT3B. I have four of the silicone trays that I used for freezing eggs. Each tray has 6 compartments. They were just the right size for freezing whole large eggs. I did a lot at one time so I kept having to wait until they froze and reuse them. I just got the cheapy ones from Wal-Mart but they worked really well...AFTER I SPRAYED THEM! I'd like to do some pizza sauce like you mentioned too. And butter herb cubes too. I used freezer bags for string storing the eggs. I really need to check out the Dollar stores for freezer storage bins. I need something to corral my chicken breasts, They slide all over the place in the freezer. It doesn't help that each one is individually wrapped. I really don't like to cook that much but I'm getting so excited to be able to can and freeze again.
  10. Good ideas MT3B. I make my hamburger patties with egg, cracker crumbs and Lipton-ish soup mix. I never thought about cooking them first though. And I like my waffles crunchy too. I see more freezer cube trays in my future.
  11. Eggs freeze well for cooking. Just blend the yolk and white together. The issue is the boiled egg white alone. Scrambled eggs are great frozen in breakfast burrito's etc. Yep, Euphrasyne. We were posting at the same time.
  12. Cooked scrambled eggs freeze well. But the 'boiled' egg white is what becomes hard and rubbery. I had chopped up boiled eggs in my ham salad and that is what didn't freeze well at all. I think I even ran them through a food chopper (don't really remember but that's the way I always make it) like I did the meat and onions and there were still tough pieces of rubbery egg white in the salad.
  13. I've seen those carts too. I think the shape of the back wheel catches on the edge of the step and helps secure it there so you can pull the cart up. But even with that, pulling it up 15 steps wouldn't be fun.
  14. Jeepers

    Necie

Glad you are hanging in there! I think about everyone I know has that virus, or whatever it is. Including me. It's a hanger-oner. Cough*cough. Sniff*sniff. Sneeze*sneeze. Sigh.
  15. Well h3ll I don't know Mother! I was just thinking of my bologna salad debacle and egg salad also popped in my mind and I wanted to give out the warning. Just don't do it.
  16. I thought they were all smart phones too. Mine is a Samsung s23. The last one was a Samsung s11. Some differences but not much. One thing that I did remember was someone in the medical field, can't remember who, either my doctor, nurse, receptionist, said to be sure the Samsung started with an "S" so it could be used for medical issues. Something about the "A" series couldn't be used with their system.
  17. My Galaxy s23 phone is an Android phone too. Very basic. My supplemental insurance plan has long term care but I'm not sure what all it is now. It was the best I could buy at the time but I have forgotten what all it offers. I need to check into all of that again. I'm just hoping I don't lose that plan when I move as some plans don't transfer from state to state and this plan is no longer offered. At least that's the way it was when I got it. It's a great plan for just under $300.00 a month and I'd sure hate to lose it. I remember when your DH passed. That was a horrible time. And I'm sure you are still traumatized from it. I know I would be too. Some things are unforgivable.
  18. Yes, freezing all sorts of things in them. I even remember freezing ham salad in some of the pints. I don't think they make them any more. I'm sure I still have some. BTW. don't freeze anything like ham/bologna salad with hard boiled eggs in it. The eggs come out very hard and rubbery! If I were to do it again I'd mix the ground meat, pickle relish and onions together and add the mayo and eggs after it thawed. The mayo turned the whole mixture white. Edible but not pleasant. Same thing with egg salad...leave out the hard boiled eggs when freezing.
  19. Ya know, I just remembered that I have quite a few of those older plastic freezer boxes stored away. Remember those with the green lids? I know I have pints and quarts but not sure how many. I could use them for soups. Plus they are square so will stack better than round bowls. Its hard to tell what all I'll find in the mysterious second garage in Indiana. Those boxes will be an exciting find though.
  20. I had to go pickup a prescription and stopped by the house. Don't tell I said this but... I think they are done with everything they are going to do. Of course it isn't all done to all of my qualifications, but I never expected it to be. Small things like they used clear calk around a bathroom sink instead of white. Clear doesn't really hide the cracks. Yeah, I'm picky. But nothing I can't either replace or live with. What ever it is, is better than it was. Even before the epic flood! I got most of the Jeep unloaded over there. I had a lot of food and bathroom supplies to carry in. I'm not food stocking but just food that I know I'll be eating while I live there. Mostly canned goods. I unpacked most of it and was ready to put it away when I realized I didn't have any scissors to cut the shelf liner stuff I bought. Sigh. And besides It was getting dark outside and I don't have curtains of any kind up...so I left. Tomorrow I'll go to Wal-Mart to get some junk drawer supplies like tape, scissors, pens etc. so I can get most of the kitchen put together. Oh, and some cheap pot and pans. Dish rags. Dish towels. There goes another list. Most of my stuff became either wet or moldy and I got rid of it. Or else I was anxious to get the good stuff moved while son had the trailer, that I didn't really think too much about leaving things that I would still need. At any rate, I'm going cheap to just get by. I finally went through the many Amazon boxes I have been setting aside. Looked like Christmas all over again in there. I don't think anything got stolen. It really was a help that Amazon tells you when they are shipping and when it's been delivered. I was able to keep up that way. Most of it is for the Indy house so it's going to live in the Jeep and out of the house. Not sure when I'm going back over. I was planning on the 10th. for furniture delivery but there might be an issue with that. The Amish has shutdown through the end of the month to go to Colorado (I think) to go hunting so they closed down shop. LOL. My furniture might be stuck at their place for a couple of more weeks. I don't care one way or the other. I'm in no rush for it. The owner knows I'm flexible. Easy since I'm not living there yet. I'm sure he wants paid though.
  21. I only got a cell phone because I live alone and often travel alone. Basically for safety reasons. Then I found I could text and not have to actually talk to people. Then I discovered the camera. Great for capturing ideas to bring home. I have a couple of games I play that were already on the phone. I have never paid for an app. and I don't ever foresee me paying for any. Now, the main reason I use it for (other than talking to sons) is for LISTS. I have a list for every thing on that phone. Especially for shopping. I keep a running list for that. I also have lists of things to-do and measurements for the Indy house. And prep books I have so I don't buy them again...BTDT. And movies, for the same reason. My only saving grace is that I have all of that stuff on Word documents in a big folder on the computer. I often (not often enough though) copy it all to a thumb drive. I just have to take the time now to get it all transferred back in the new phone. And yep, it's been a pain in the rear! I think I'm almost done too. I never wanted to upgrade. I was fighting it. There are still things I can't figure out how to do like moving things around where I want them and saving contacts. I think the most I lost was my time. And aggravation. But I'm back to the basics and right now I'm not going to fight it.
  22. I want to have "Texas Toast" in the freezer too. Big slabs of garlic toast ready to heat and eat. Good for the Italian tomato-y meals and soups. I keep forgetting about hamburger patties too. The last two times I bought hamburger I forgot about making patties. I'll use kale in the Zuppa Toscana. I love kale. I'll have to check into the soup cubes. I had mixed luck with the silicone cubes when I used them for eggs. They stuck so bad I had to trash the eggs. Only a dozen but still... BUT after I sprayed them they worked great.
  23. Thank you. Awesome ideas. I have meat issues. I like it but only boned and skinned etc. so chunks or slices work great for me. My meat issues are also the reason I have room in my freezer for the meals. I have meat in there. A lot of steaks for summer and chicken breasts. But I didn't really buy the freezer for long term meat storage. I bought it to eat out of continually. That has worked out for me so far because every time I go over there, I eat a pre-made meal or two from it. I can most of my soups but I do plan to have some creamy ones frozen. Creams of Broccoli, Potato and Zuppa Toscana. Oh yeah. I never thought about flash freezing the pancakes and waffles. Will make them easier to separate too. Will also do the corn bread slices.
  24. Not being able to get out, or having to rely on someone else for help, is my motivation too. I don't have a 'plan' for how long that would be. Never really thought about a timeline. But as long as I can stay put, the more comfortable I'll feel. I've been set back in prepping for over a year and it's starting to concern me. I feel like I have a long way to go and a short time to get there now. Sheeesh, is that the Smokey and the Bandit song? Pork chops is a great idea too! I like chunks of pork dipped in 57 Sauce. Don't judge. LOL. I only added freezer stuff that will go in the microwave to mine. But I thought of cole slaw etc. on the side. I want to make up some of those individual corn bread slices to freeze and have on hand too. I found a pan that will make the size I want. Looks like the old Boston Market ones. Corn bread muffins would work too. I also buy the small cups of applesauce and fruit cups. Especially the mandarin oranges and peaches and pears. I hope to make my own apple sauce in half pints this fall. I have a lot of canning 'planned' too. A lot.
