  1. Hi everybody! I'm back after a hiatus of unknown reasons..oh wait, call it Life!...just 'cause I kept looking stuff up the other day and Mrs. Survival kept popping up in Search. So I figured it was just wiser to swing on by. Oh geez... This is the conversation going on behind me: Manling #2: That milk expired on the 23rd. Hubs: Well get it drunk before it goes bad. Manling #2: Hmmm, might already be... Me: Well if it IS, I'll use it and make a batch of brownies. Hubs: She's making brownies?? Manling #2: Yeah, I think that's what she said. Me: THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID! Men. Anyway, I killed a couple of useful hours last evening perusing the boards, and I think I'm going to make a concerted effort to hang out. I forgot just what a treasure trove of knowledge everybody is around here. So hello again to everyone, AND I have a quick question for anyone out there who loves snap peas. The only Manling in my house who eats peas is not home for the rest of the summer to clean them off the vines. I refuse to toss them, and I have NO freezer space left. (Not to mention we all hated frozen peas.) I haven't tried to dehydrate them before, and if someone else has, I'd like to know how they turn out best. I figure he can munch them as "veggie chips" this fall if I save a bunch for him. Do I REALLY need to blanch them before they go on? Or can I just toss and dry, since he's just going to eat them dry anyway? Ideas? (I was gonna toss them in dip mix before he eats them.)
  2. Oh my. *dies laughing* And you know...somebody bought THAT! Actually paid good money for it! I've got another good item. My hubby went to fix my van today--evidently there was a part in the steering wheel that had shorted. He couldn't get the steering wheel off to get to the part....so he had to go to the auto parts store for a...wait for it..."steering wheel puller". No joke. It was a little piece of metal, some washers, and a handful of screws. I cracked up! I said, "don't we have that stuff at home??" He said, "not the same. But don't worry, I'll return it for the rental refund when I'm done." I'm thinking, "yeah you'd better! $20 for some washers and screws is a RIP-OFF!" It must have been the right tool though--my steering wheel is fixed! :wink (2):
  3. I have another turkey question--I usually roast a turkey when I have time, then pull the meat off the bones and food processor it up into "fine ground" turkey. Can I can this like I would regular ground turkey? OR do I can it in chunks and then shred when I open the jar? ...oh yum...I'm just imagining this canned in veggie broth... I need to get to the store next week....
  4. I saw your post over at the Homeschool thread and had to come over and see how things worked out. Money is tight all over, but for some (like you and others I know) it's even worse. My hubby had been in and out of the hospital seven times in four years not long ago, and I remember those days of hoping and praying as I balanced the checkbook and paid the bills that we'd have enough to make it through--and you know what? We always did. The one prayer I have prayed since the first day of my marriage was that God would always let us have "enough" money for each month. And we always have--whether it was with an extra $200 to spare...or 2 dollars. Not that I haven't learned from our mistakes and hard(er) times, but He never let us drop below the amount of money we NEEDED to get through. I know we certainly didn't deserve it. He truly does provide...and in the most unexpected ways! I'm so happy for you and yours. God bless!
  5. LOL--I haven't been on my computer for about two weeks...so go figure you started the Bible Study in that time! *headdesk* I was so excited about this that I listened to the sermons online back in the end of February/beginning of March when it was orginally posted. I ordered the book the next weekend, and I've been reading chapters as I get time. I think about about 2/3rds of the way through. (Not bad for someone who's read two actual books in the last six months!) I even started listening to the Daniel Bible Study that Dr. Jeremiah's doing on Turning Point, 'cause I can listen at night while at my PT job. I find all of this just fascinating! I really need to start intensively reading my Bible too--there's so much I didn't know--like that Daniel and Revelation weren't the only places that deal with the Rapture and Second Coming. (My little church doesn't go into this stuff.)
