  1. So, I was dehydrating some frozen veggies about 2 weeks ago, I got really ill and forgot all about it. My kids turned my dehydrator off, they checked the food and said they were good. But they have been in there ever since. Thoughts on the food being good? They were dehydrated but when I checked them today they felt a little...bendy. They have been in the dehydrator and in an air conditioned house. So is it safe to put them back on again or are they ruined? Thanks!
  2. Hi everyone, I too have found my way back here. Been a rough road with a divorce, moving, and health issues including a stroke. But on the plus side I have two amazing grandsons now and a college degree! I've never stopped prepping though. Good to see so many old and new faces!

    Hello Again

Thanks Everyone!! The island is nice....but we do get some flooding. Besides the normal high tide stuff, the storms can sometimes keep my kids small cars trapped. My truck can pretty much go through whatever we get. But I do keep plenty of food and water on hand in case we do get flooded in for a bit. Water is my biggest prep concern. I may look into a good water filter, I am surrounded by water...salt water though. A good thing about the island is that I'm in the local fire department which has a station here on the island and one off-shore. They're like family to me so I do have them if I need anything. I'm actually surprised at how creative I'm becoming with the how and where to store things. I'll have to make a post once I figure it all out. Downsizing really helped put things into perspective. The only things that got moved to the new house was stuff I really need or really love! This is definitely a new adventure for me! But it's kinda fun too

    Hello Again

Hello everyone!! It's been awhile! Finally made it through a rough divorce, which included losing my home of 14 years to foreclosure, along with being diagnosed with 2 chronic illnesses along the way. My kids (25,22,19) have been wonderful! My oldest daughter is getting married in November so we've been quite busy with that. Myself and the 22 (son) and 19 (daughter) year olds have rented a small cottage on an island near my oldest. It's a two year lease and a nice fresh start. To be honest we all need it. We downsized.....ALOT! So finding homes for preps has become quite a challenge. I'm hoping to get some advice on prepping in a small space among other things. So Hello to all of you!! I'm glad to be back and looking forward to learning more! ~Kimba
  5. I was in the grocery store with my 17 year old daughter. We were in the egg aisle, I see her looking from price to price with this shocked look on her face. She turns to me and says "Was there a chicken apocalypse or something?????" I couldn't help but laugh. I explained to her what was going on. It's crazy!! I do know of an older gentleman that lives nearby who often sells his extra egs. May be stopping by there soon.

    Hello Again

Hello Again dear friends I've been away for a few years...divorce is a nasty, soul crushing process. But I have begun finding me again. I had let my house go, my preps go and so much more due to sadness and illness. Since he left I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis plus a few other things. Throw in a hysterectomy for good measure and that's been my past couple of years. Thanks to my amazing children and a few really good friends I've found my way out of all that. Taking control of my life and my house! Just wanted to say Hi and tell you all I'm planning on diving back into things. ~Kimba
  8. Really hate being sick :-(

  9. I'm new to canning - Just bought my canner yesterday new!! So here is my question: I've been looking online and watching you tube videos about canning spaghetti sauce. All the recipes I saw started with whole fresh tomatoes. Well I use canned tomato puree for my sauce base not fresh. Is the processing process still the same?? Can I pressure can it or do I have to do water bath? Thanks so much!!

  11. LOL! My kids think that this is an abomination!! They are very spoiled with homemade pancakes. They hate sleeping over my mom's because she always want to make them pancakes from a box!! I have a rice cooker and used to use it all the time. Then one day it hit me: If I'm storing rice for when the shtf - I better learn to cook it without the help of my rice cooker!! Now my family likes it better just made in a big pot. Kimba
  12. Help! I'm so confused! I've been trying to shop for canners. Do I have to get one with the dial gauge and retrofit it? I can't seem to find any for sale that comes with the weights. I found a place that sells the weights. Is it a hard to change the gauges? If anyone can help I'd be really grateful!! Thanks, Kimba
  13. I'm loving these!! And relating to a whole lot of them! Also taking some notes!! I've got one: Your kids actually hope for a power outage to get to the "good stuff" Kimba
  14. First I want to say "Hi Everyone!!" It's been awhile, I've missed it here! OK- on to the question: I am having a hard time finding the "canning element" for my GE range. DH told me to check with all of you "in the know" people and see if they make an electric canner. Ya know one you can just plug in. Does anyone know if this exsists?? My plan B would be canning on one of my grills or getting a "turkey cooker". Anyone have any experience with that?? Thanks!!! Kimba
