  1. Euphrasyne and Mother it is so sad that you both lost your Aunts. My Aunt Lois was the only normal family member I had. I wish I could have lived near her but even with distance we were always close. I sure miss her. On a happy note...MY SCOOTER IS HERE!!!!!!!! I am so happy. It ONLY took 38 days from breakage to new one. Now I can get to my mailbox and garage. The pain in my back and legs is improving already. It's off to the races..lol. I called to get my supposedly annual eye exam (after 2 years). The first appointment they have is October. I tried to get a dermatology appt. too but it will be next year! What is it with all these long waits? They tell you to keep up to date but it is impossible with lag times like these. I haven't had a mammo in 4 years. I wonder if I'll have to wait forever for one of them too. I admit I have put off everything since DH got sick and died. He would help me get in the dr. offices. I still don't know how I'll manage but I sure have a long time to figure it out. Another beautiful day. It makes me want to get out and garden. Maybe I'll test my mobility in my new scooter My old one couldn't handle the bare ground but maybe this new one can.
  2. It looks like almost everyone is getting much accomplished. I am so jealous. It is nearly a month since my scooter died. I have been through heck and back. My Dr. took almost a week to sign the paperwork. Poor dear is so busy. The nurse did the paperwork the day I went in but it had to be signed by him personally. Then the provider messed up by not getting a prior approval. Anyhow it was officially approved by Medicare and ordered for me last Friday. I have no idea how long until it arrives. Meanwhile, I am really suffering. When you call Medicare all they want to do is read their manual to you. Forget about asking a question and getting an answer. They read every word too! Jeepers I hope your insurance ordeal is over soon. When my son had a claim he had a heck of a time getting the checks signed by his mortgage company. The mortgage had changed hands several times and they had to keep re-issuing the checks in the new holder company. It took him nearly 6 months to get it straight. Littlesister I have been craving an old fashioned pot roast. I wish we had a good sale like you did. Annarchy your bread is making me hungry. It has been ages since I made some at home. I had a depressing birthday last Friday. I hope I get turned around soon with a new set of wheels and a new attitude!
  3. Thanks for remembering ladies. It actually was pretty bad, so I am going to bed in a few minutes. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
  4. I have been stuck in the house since last Friday. My electric scooter broke and it takes forever to get repaired. It's under warranty and covered by Medicare but it still takes forever. I have a manual back up chair but it is impossible to get outside with the ramp setup I have. You would think they would have a loaner chair for these situations but they don't. Fortunately, I don't generate alot of garbage or get much mail anymore. I can't put my garbage out the backdoor because my neighbor has 6 or 7 dogs that occasionally come over here. Especially if they smell goodies. The last few days have been nice. In the mid 60's. We are supposed to start 3-4 days of heavy rain tonight. Better than snow or ice. Tonight is one of the few times I wish I lived where I could get something delivered. Pizza or wings type of stuff. I guess I need some cheering up and sometimes junk food helps. I just had an ad pop up a few minutes ago saying it was national pizza day with a beautiful picture. It's almost like they read my mind.
  5. I looked up the new BJ's. They have a 55$ membership with a 40$ rebate right now. I wish it wasn't so far away. I just don't get out that much with DH being dead and me being handicapped. I would love to see it. I have been craving an old fashioned chuck pot roast. I looked at the price and it was $6.99 a pound!!!!!!!!!!!! Geez. I haven't seen any on sale in ages either.

    Walking again

That is great ladies. Keep it up. I wish I could join you. Can I put a odometer on my electric wheelchair?
  7. We just had a BJ's open about half an hour from here. I haven't heard any feedback about it yet. I have been a member of Sam's and Costco before but I didn't go there often enough to really save much. I did save on the tires I bought at Costco but trying to get them installed and balanced was a nightmare. It took so much time and aggravation.
  8. I don't like any rice. I'm not much of a carb eater which is good since I am diabetic. I do like Chinese style fried rice though. The roads are finally starting to thaw a bit since Monday's snow and ice. I can't get out my door though. I have an aluminum ramp that is still covered in ice. I just want to try to start my car and get my mail and take out garbage. It sleeted last night and it will probably stay frozen frozen until Sunday or Monday. Grrr. At least I have power so I'm not freezing. Tomorrow's high is predicted to be around 20 with it feeling worse than that with the wind chill. Our WalMart quit their pickup service last Sunday and it's been shut down all week. I guess they knew how bad it was gonna get before the local weather service did. Stay warm ya'll.
  9. I pray that 2024 is a much better year than the last few have been. Best wishes to all the wonderful folks here at MrsS!
  10. Mother you are lucky to have a truly considerate daughter. I just love it when someone hugs me and then I find out later they were sick. For some reason folks with strep throats seem to love to share the most. When DH was in and out of hospitals alot I could not believe the sick families clogging up the waiting rooms and even going into the ICU unit. I pray all of you here have a blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year
  11. You are so sweet Littlesister. Congrats on the new great grand baby! What a blessing. Kiss those sweet little cheeks for me.
  12. Merry Christmas to ya'll! I made myself some crab legs to celebrate tonight. I haven't had any in years so it was a nice treat. I will be alone again but I still have memories of my sweet hubby. Hoping 2024 is better than 2023 was!
  13. I don't know how I missed this post. It sounds like you have just gone from one health problem to another. Hopefully, this will be it for awhile. My FIL had lung problems and they think it was from him being a paper hanger for years. Back in the 40's and 50's he did alot of flocked paper. He could actually see little particles in the air when he was working. Welcome back!
  14. Euphrasyne, how do you like BJ's? They just built one in the big town 30 minutes away and I was wondering if they are better than Costco or Sam's. I have been a member of both of them in the past but I just didn't save enough to keep a membership. We had a cold front come through last night. The same one that caused tornadoes in Tennessee. I am thankful we had no serious problems from it. It stayed chilly today though and it was pretty breezy. A friend of mine lost her Mom yesterday. Her Mom is about 4 years older than me. I feel so bad since they were very close. I don't know what I can do to help her. She works at hospice so she is used to death but your own Mom is a different story. I hate when folks die around the holidays. Just think..soon it will be a new year. I still don't know where 2023 went!
  15. I was just sitting here thinking about all the Christmas advertising I saw on tv. I watched a college football game all the way through today which is a long time for me anymore. So many Christmas ads before we even get to Thanksgiving. Almost all of them saying holiday still. You hardly hear the word Christmas mentioned. When I was a kid we kind of followed the old German customs from my Dads family. They had so many rules and customs. We always put the tree up Christmas Eve and took it down on the Epiphany. It had to be a real tree. No gifts under the tree until Christmas Eve. At least there was one kind of cute commercial with John Travolta playing Santa Claus. I almost didn't recognize him. I recognized Donna Pescow first and she was only on for about 2 seconds. After I saw her I realized who Santa had to be. Our weather is still fantastic. I am enjoying open windows and no heat or air running. I haven't been in a store for years. Between being handicapped and the covid/flu viruses I have been doing pick up or mail orders. I would probably have culture shock if I went into WMart!
  16. You ladies seem to get so much done! I don't think I have had a truly productive day since DH died. I make plenty of lists but can't seem to accomplish much. I think my list is just getting longer and longer. I will have to live to 100 to get it all done! It is still pretty warm here, but so pleasant. About half of the leaves have fallen but we still haven't gotten real chilly. I just love this weather when I don't have to run the a/c or heat. I had to smile to myself picturing Jeepers with little stickers everywhere. Reminds me of when the grands were little and would put stickers all over DH's face.
  17. Congrats on a new baby to love Littleister! I can see a lot of cuddling in the future! It has finally cooled down here too. I have so much that needs to be done around here but it is just about impossible to find anyone willing to work. The lady that cuts my grass doesn't like to do anything else outside so I can't use her. At least she keeps my grass under control. I am already seeing big promotions for Christmas. It seems to start earlier every year. Have a great weekend ya'll.
  18. Why do we call this a service economy? Look at all the troubles we have with doctors, insurance, repair folks etc. I know I spend alot of my time undoing other folks mistakes I know a man who is still waiting for his car insurance settlement from a wreck 4 years ago. His lawyer will get %45!!! It wasn't a huge amount and no one was seriously hurt but it did cost him some time off work and minor injuries. He also lost his van. He has been through a bunch and it wasn't even his fault. I think they were hoping he would die since he is over 70 years old. Our week long heat system finally broke yesterday. It was actually 63 degrees when I woke up this am. How nice.
  19. My DH had so many serious and even should have been fatal health problems. He told me the most painful of them all was kidney stones. I sympathize.
  20. I sure hope Mt.RIder is ok. She usually posts frequently. We are under that heat dome until Friday. It will feel like 110 on Wednesday. Yikes! Another forum I go to is mainly folks from Texas. They have been living like this for well over a month. What misery. You ladies do so much. I envy your mobility. I am thankful that I can at least transfer by myself. Since I live alone I don't know what I would do if I couldn't do that. I hope I don't fall. As fat as I am, I would probably bounce pretty good! I usually leave the tv on but seldom watch it. I guess I like the background noise. I don't have cable but I do stream alot of free stuff. Pluto tv has many educational documenteries. I am learning so much about WW1 and 2. I do have Peacock for one year since they had a 99 cents a month special. Still eating on my veggies. I have had squash a million different ways but I still love it. There were so many cherry tomatoes that I roasted them with spices and packaged them in little freezer bags. I add one when I made soup or spaghetti. The flavor is so intense! I hope everyone's health improves. It makes life tough when you are in pain or ailing.
  21. We hit the start of the dog days of summer yesterday. It got up to 94 and will be in the mid 90's for a week. I am thankful I don't have to be outdoors. Just hope my a/c keeps cranking away. The hospice lady who used to come over to bathe DH stopped by this am. She is putting her garden to bed. She brought me about 10 pounds of cherry tomatoes plus another 5 pounds of slicing maters. I love them but I've never had enough to know what to do with the glut. Any ideas? She also brought zucchini, squash and green beans. She is the only hospice lady who I keep in touch with.. I pay her to mow my lawn. She actually relaxes out in the sun going around in circles. She likes to have a nice tan and she enjoys the extra mad money she makes. I wish she had more free time. I would love to have her help me do more things around here. I'm definitely having fried green tomatoes for dinner tonight! Stay cool ladies!
  22. I love fresh beets. The "fresh" ones in the grocery store are all dried out. Fresh beets that are roasted are so sweet. Yum.

  24. And here i thought the fireworks were for the 4th..they were for you! Happy Birthday!
  25. Littlesister and Jeepers, I admire you for getting organized. I wish I could emulate you better. I am trying but it seems like an impossible task. LIttlesister hope your GS continues to improve. BeccaAnne I am so glad you got to spend so much time with your family. It's tough to leave the babies. Today will be our hottest day yet but it's not that bad for this time of year. It is supposed to cool down for the next few days so I will be turning off the a/c. Hopefully, it will help keep the electric bill down. They keep predicting rain but it is still fairly dry. I don't have a single vegetable plant this year so nothing to water. The weeds are going great without much rain! MtRider I get up early most days but it takes me awhile to get moving! I putter around with internet and tea alot in the am. Hope ya'll have a great Sunday.
