  1. I have seen these also and wondered about them, I am interested in knowing the answer also.
  2. I hope your son is doing better. Good luck on the class, let us know how it goes.
  3. I saw on my local news that hundreds of grape vines got damaged so bad that Welch's grape juice lost most of their grapes. The last few years I have been thinking about doing a higher number of canned foods per item. This cemented my decision in place to go ahead and do it,, you can never be over prepared!
  4. Books about Shaker's, interesting! I am going to have to check those out. This last winter I have been reading books wrote by Quaker's, it's about how to follow the Word. They tend to live simple and plain so it has been interesting to read their take on Consumerism and I have learned alot. I need to get on Goodreads and put these books on my list (which by the way is a great site!)
  5. How is your knitting class going? I do both, although I seem to knit more than I do quilts. I am glad you had the opportunity to do both, they are both so valuable to know how to do
  6. How exciting for you! When I have breakthrough's like this it always gives me the mental energy to push forward and learn more.
  7. I had no idea a person could freeze all these things! Time to reorganize my garden plans for next year and plan to freeze in addition to canning and my root cellar!
  8. I made 52 8 oz jars of strawberry jam canned 48 pints of strawberries in syrup and dehydrated 9 trays of strawberries
  9. $4.00 a loaf,, where do you live?? When we buy bread we always go to an outlet. Aunt Millie's, wonder bread etc. and pay .79 a loaf.

  11. Yep, it's the same guy, it's a blog worth reading. A friend who turned me onto this site turned me onto his site also. I keep up with his blog more than any others. When i prep I always keep his site in mind, it's like a real time account of what we could be facing in the future.
  12. what a wonderful present you recieved. It's extra special because he remembered and got you something you really wanted,, I've never seen ladybug golashes,, i wonder how hard he had to look to find them. regardless, I'm glad you had a great Valentines Day, after having money problems for a while you certainly deserve something new and cute.
  13. I didn't know any of that, so thank you for posting it. Your right, i've made internet friends on here that i never imagined,, and i've been on alot of various message boards for different reason's. Thanks for this intro and all your help you give everyone.
  14. What a wonderful family activity you can do together! Your boys will always be able to use prepardness skills they learn when they are young. I'd never be able to go without talking for 24 hours,, good luck with that.
  15. I think that is very nice you can work as a community helping each other. I am sure your friends appreciate all your help. good luck with the maple syrup
  16. I've felt like this too, usually it's after I cooked to much or just got to overwhelmed. It just takes me a few runs to the grocery store to give me a quick reminder how much things cost and how much money were saving to get motivated again. Tomorrow is a new start!
  17. Ok, this is cause for some excitement! I am going to order my peach tree for my front yard and three raspberry stalks for my backyard!!!! How cool will it be to just go outside and pick a peach off the tree and eat it?? Or to just walk outside and pick 7-8 peaches and make up a batch of peach jam,, or peach syrup,,, the list is endless. Gosh I hope one peach tree does me! I have no idea how many raspberries a few stalks will give you but the idea of getting a nice beautiful bowlful suits me just fine. one more step to self reliance!
  18. that's terrific that your Dh is graduating,, I'm sure it will be good to have him home again during the week!
  19. Empty shelves is progress! Good luck with the getting rid of, donate and the organzing!
  20. well, didn't get to much accomplished today. One of my kids stayed home from school so all I got done was the kids laundry,, actually, that is an accomplishment in itself. I only have three kids but man can they go through the clothes! I did find hotdogs at Walmart for .88 each per package so I bought 10 of them to store in the freezer. A little bit here and there really adds up. I bought seal a meal bags too, wish I could find 'em cheaper I think i'll just blow the whole night off and cross stitich some. Tomorrow is baking day.
  21. Sorry, I thought it was the lack of my computer skills that I couldn't access your blog, other wise I would have said something. Looks like ya got it licked now though.
  22. I live in the city and am a newbie survivalist. I live on a 35 by 107 lot. I have a garden, water bath and pressure can our food. I do alot of baking from scratch. We don't have any animals except for our dog. Due to city regulations we don't have enough property to have animals. We make due with what we have. Our goal eventually is to move to the country. One day that may happen. I'm married to a wonderfully supportive man and have three terrific children. What do I consider a survivalist? Am I preparing for the *big one*? Not really. I am working toward being as self sufficient as possible. I am prepping for any disaster. Loosing power and being able to stay in our home, becoming unemployed, or whatever a disaster is deemed by my family. The best thing about this blog is I can post my personal goals to help in my prepping. I am a goal oriented person and honestly have no other place I can write my goals so people will understand why I am doing this. My goal for February is to pressure can enough soup and stews to last one year. And to purchase enough coffee to last a year. Household goal is to get rid of my computer desk I don't use, replace with a table or counter that give me more room to work and to hide preps underneath it.
  23. I tried this cracker recipe tonight by mamatiger and I added 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese to the dough to try a cheez-it type cracker. Before putting in the oven I put butter and salt on the top. It worked out great! They actually taste like cheese crackers,,, it even passed my husband's taste test! I turned them after 10 minutes of cooking and let them cook 5 more minutes. I also scored them into bite size pieces before baking. Thank you so much for posting your recipe!
