  1. NOT worth the 99c I paid for it at the outlet store.
  2. I know that works on other sites, but I have not had any success here.
  3. Violet-do you mean the 'par-boiling' or the water-glass? What about coating with mineral oil and keeping cool, or in the fridge?
  4. OK everybody, try not to laugh toooooooooooooo hard. I priced bottles of mineral oil to use on preserving the 9 doz eggs I bought on sale (.99/doz), but it was way more expensive than I wanted to pay for the little bit I was going to use. Wouldn't you know it, there were enemas on the same shelf, and guess what the main (I should say ONLY) ingredient in the bottle was? You guessed it. Mineral oil!!! So, for $1.49 I bought an enema to treat my eggs with!!!
  5. what I want to know is HOW did you get the actual video to show up in the thread?????? I have tried, unsuccessfully , several times.
  6. 30 day JAIL sentence and $1500 FINE for "collecting" rainwater!!!
  7. Sorry for your loss. Drive carefully yourself, and don't forget to use your seatbelt.
  8. I posted this article in on another board with this question: "Do you think they would stretch the no water saving rule to include people who store water in their homes for emergencies?" Watcha' think???
  9. Steering wheel covers are a necessity in some climes........................such as California! And sometimes it's safer to drive w/o the seatbelt at least until it cools off some (even IF you've parked in the shade!!!) And yes, my left arm is 'tanner' than my right.
  10. Watch out! Be careful! Don't say I didn't warn ya'! There's another forum I post on that if I posted this I would be BANNED!!! forever. for always. permanently! (yeah, I think they're prudes too.)
  11. A so-called “Monsanto rider,” quietly slipped into the multi-billion dollar FY 2013 Agricultural Appropriations bill, would require – not just allow, but require - the Secretary of Agriculture to grant a temporary permit for the planting or cultivation of a genetically engineered crop, even if a federal court has ordered the planting be halted until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed. All the farmer or the biotech producer has to do is ask, and the questionable crops could be released into the environment where they could potentially contaminate conventional or organic crops and, ultimately, the nation’s food supply. Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) has sponsored an amendment to kill the rider, whose official name is “the farmers assurance” provision. . . .Among the biggest losers if Congress ignores the DeFazio amendment and passes the “farmers assurance provision” are thousands of farmers of conventional and organic crops, including those who rely on the export market for their livelihoods. An increasing number of global markets are requiring GMO-free agricultural products or, at the very least, enforcing strict GMO labeling laws. If this provision passes, it will allow unrestricted planting of potentially dangerous crops, exposing other safe and non-GMO crops to risk of contamination. You can fight back now against these threats to food freedom by visiting: http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_25711.cfm (This link will allow you to send a prepared email to Wally Herger - no cost)
  12. Never heard of this before, so I did a search. Found lots of info and even some inspiration! Thanks.
  13. Utah want its citizens to 'register' their gardens. It is being promoted as a GOOD thing, but it is really a very sneaky way of knowing where to find food when there is none anywhere else. Here is how one Utahn feels about it:
  14. In a convulated journey, I followed a link from the Pinterest thread, and came upon this very long article about prepping. This gardening thread is a small excerpt from it.......... ----------------------------------------- During a serious hard times event I suggest you consider growing mostly root vegetables, such as beets, carrots, onions, potatoes, radishes, turnips, and peanuts. The edible part of a root vegetable grows below ground. Therefore it is invisible unless you know what is growing below the vines or leaves you see on top of the ground. However, in order to provide some reasonable variety in your meals and to help avoid appetite fatigue, you will also need to grow some vegetables where the edible part of the vegetable is above ground. Anyone who happens to walk by your garden area will see these vegetables and they will know exactly what you are growing and how much you are growing. Therefore in order to help minimize the complete loss of your entire vegetable crop to looters and thieves during a serious hard times tragedy event, it might be a good idea to have at least two or more vegetable plots. One vegetable plot should contain your above ground vegetables and it should be conveniently located in any area that gets full sun all day. A second or third vegetable plot should be in a more obscure area that also gets full sun and it should contain your below ground vegetables. You should probably allow a few random weeds to grow in this area to help hide your below ground vegetables. Since the vegetables will be growing below ground the only thing visible above ground would be some leaves or vines. And unless a person knew exactly what type of leaf or vine it was, then it would be very easy to mistake those leaves and vines as random weeds. In order for this to work you should not plant your underground vegetables in a nice neat straight row. Instead plant them in a random haphazard fashion all over this remote garden area, and whenever possible, mix the different types of vegetables together so you don’t have all the leaves of one specific type of vegetable growing close to one another. This means each type of vegetable would be randomly scattered throughout this garden plot and this would help to create the visual picture of lots of different types of weeds just haphazardly growing together. http://www.grandpappy.info/hseedrec.htm
  15. I think he has made some purchases since then,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but it's still a good thing that he lives really close to his brother (who DOES get it).
  16. Obama’s Memorial Day Photo-Op Blocks Families, Vets From D.C. Vietnam Memorial Wall For 7 Hours On Memorial Day, the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. is supposed to look like this: Instead, for seven long hours, it looked like this: Obama’s secret service shut down the memorial for most of the day, as families and veterans who had come to pay their respects to fallen loved ones were forced to stay hundreds of feet away. Why? So that the Narcissist-in-Chief could show up for 15-minute speech and photo-op with his carefully selected fans in the audience. In his campaign speech remarks, Obama made sure to mention that: http://www.thoughtsfromaconservativemom.com/2012/05/obamas-memorial-day-photo-op-blocks-families-vets-from-d-c-vietnam-memorial-wall-for-7-hours/ UPDATE: The National Park Service, Public Affairs, and Vietnam Veterans of America all confirmed the shut-down when contacted by phone. VVA said that all the guests had to be pre-screened for security reasons, and it would have been “very difficult” to give advance notice to all the families and vets who arrived to find it closed.
  17. Congratulations in your success in getting through to your son! I wish I had as much success.
  18. This is something I didn't know before I read an article in today's paper. Imagine, I could have known it 3years ago! Anyway, the article I read said to concentrate on getting rid of the aphids instead of trying to get rid of the ants. If their food goes away, they go away.
  19. I bought some Hydrocortisone Cream to help calm down the swelling and the itching. It is the same as a steroid,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,isn't it? I remember when I first took her to the vet she was on a steroid for 10 days to calm down the swelling so they could see inside her ear better and then they cleaned it out.
  20. Thanks again Mother. I will add coconut oil drizzled over her kibble. I always give her my leftovers (riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, like I ever have anything left!) and I let her lick my plate clean, and sometimes even the pot once its cooled down.................so be aware of that if you're ever over for dinner! (Some people can't get over it, even though the pot and plates have been cleaned 0000000000000000ps, I mean washed, since.
  21. She is a lab/german short-hair cross. The problem seemed to start when I switched her from the regular kirkland food to the newer more "organic" brand. I always look for non-corn, non-wheat, non-soy food, but switching her didn't seem to make a difference. The smaller bags of food at the local pet store were much more expensive and didn't help clear it up anyway so I finally went back to the original kirkland brand that she was eating before I made the first switch. Mother, I would love to feed her the bones and offal that you talk about, but here in Cali those parts (which used to be throw-aways) are now sold for almost as much as the regular cuts! I guess I will have to break down and cook her some food , but I can only do a week at a time or it goes bad (no room in the freezer.) But I can only cook it when I have the energy, so I will probably not be very consistent with it. (I haven't even been cooking my own food for a while now.................................) And thanks for letting me know about the monistat not working.
  22. My poor baby has been battling a chronic "dirty-ear" problem for several months now. When I took her to the vet 6 months (?) ago, they cleaned her ear, gave me ear wash and some drops for her ear, and charged me 0ver $100 dollars for the meds and the visit. Same for the second time. Anyway, I was in W-mart today with her, and a lady in line behind me asked if she could pet my dog. I said yes, of course. Turns out she was a Vet tech, so I asked her to take a quick look into Deena's ear. The lady said it looked like a yeast infection. Now, please don't YELL , and more importantly don't LAUGH.. .......... ..................but if I have Monistat at home, can I use it in her ears??? (I think it started as an allergy to a new food, but she hasn't been on that brand for months now. I think i just didn't follow-through like I should have because she gives me grief everytime I tried to work on her ears, and it hurts my back to bend over etc.)
