    New BBB

Oh I need one!! My old copy is getting pretty ragged. Thanks for letting us know. Hope you are feeling better.
  3. don't know if there are "official" measurements for these , but a friend gave me a set of these once. I didn't use them and eventually got rid of them. Cute little gift ,tho. (for a Sunday School Christmas party)
  4. I got out a few of my cookbooks yesterday and decided to cook a big meal for a change. Home canned peas, cornbread, sweet potato casserole, rice with beef stew to put over it, lemon icebox pie, tea Everyone enjoyed it, except my picky boy. the oldest boy asked me to cook it again today. Ha, no one offered to help clean the kitchen tho. Maybe I'll cook again- ----next week----maybe............
  5. 4 qt. chicken, 3 qt broth-----one canner full. now thinking about some dry beans,,maybe a canner of them. :Once I mixed up 6 kinds of beans and did my own 6-bean soup, that was good' when my boys were little they weren't big fans of beans , so Mama had to use a little trick . I called them Batman and Robin beans. (2 kinds of beans mixed) they each chose a bean and raced to see which one could eat the most.. Haha Now I'd use that same trick on my picky eater and call them The Avengers, but he's too smart for me , that boy won't fall for that trick.
  6. "Mud Sale" hmmm, Jeepers you talkin' 'bout my front yard?
  7. 14 pt. blackeyed peas, 2 pt. bacon, 7 qt. chicken spaghetti mix.... this is the first time I've canned bacon... it looks good..... I will try it soon and if its good I'll try to can some more. (if I can get some sales, haha)
  8. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cornbread, iced tea, banana pudding. Of course,"picky boy" only ate the chicken and the pudding, cause he is so picky. Boy he is so hard to feed, but everyone else sure enjoyed it. We had a visitor and she enjoyed a home cooked meal. Last evening I cooked turnip green soup and cornbread. I think today I'll can the leftovers. It makes a huge pot of soup and sometimes I want a much smaller amount. Have some in the freezer in small containers ,but I want to see how it cans. Guess I should half the recipe when I make it. I'm also going to put in a jar of bacon too. I've never tried that cause bacon is so costly. Everyone here loves it so much , I never have enough to can some. Well, that will be a jar I'll have to hide for a couple months and then try it out. Do y'all like the canned bacon?
  9. Goat Lady, can you can them? I have heard of that being done. Maybe you can check youtube to see if there are any videos. Can't hurt to look.
  10. Twilight, have you canned anything lately? Just wondering if you got your problem solved. It is so terrible to do all that work and have your jars break or not seal. Anyway, I hope you have good luck with your next project.
  11. I baked a turkey breast. Of course , my picky one didn't like it but my cat sure did . He began to pester me early and just hung around my feet all day, except when he was in the kitchen. I told my gd that he was acting weird. I found out at supper what was the problem . TURKEY SMELL. I fed him some and it was just what he wanted. Now Kitty just doesn't want cat food any more. Gosh I have a spoiled boy and a spoiled cat. What to fix for tonight????? Oh ,just found out my next door neighbor has passed away, so I will fix something to send over there.
  12. Gosh, I guess nobody has cooked dinner since Nov.14. That's too long to let this thread languish. Tonight we had hamburgers and French fries. Tomorrow I plan to make chicken and dumplings , cornbread , a veggie of some kind, tea. After I go to the store Thursday I plan to make a dish my daughter gave me the recipe for. I don't know what it's called , we just call it "that chicken and green bean thing"==You can make this as large as you want. Spray your baking dish and put a can of drained green beans in 1/3 of the dish. Put chicken breast in the middle and chunks of potato on the end. Melt a stick of butter and pour over it. Sprinkle a package of Italian seasoning over it , cover it with foil and bake it til the chicken and potatoes are done. Its great, you better add extra and make a double batch. =I have added carrots, just about anything you want.==The seasoning I use is Good Seasons. Bake at 350 for about 45 min to1 hour.
  13. "older and slower"---Jeepers, please don't talk about us that way. No, we're just getting better and better every day!
  14. 8 quarts white beans, 6 quarts turkey soup====saved the remains of the Thanksgiving turkey and did some dry beans, makes it so much easier when I don't have a lot of time. I've been kind of lazy since the holiday. Now I've got to get in the attic and get all the Christmas decorations out. I am not ready for this but the 6 year old sure is . Where in the world am I going to put a tree in this little house?
  15. Another great recipe: takes a little longer to cook, but makes the house smell so good and brings everyone to the kitchen to taste. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/turnip-green-soup/
  16. last night I tried a new (to me)recipe, turnip green soup. It was a hit! at least with all except my picky eater, I had to fix him something else. Everyone is asking if there leftovers today. So last night we had turnip green soup and hot cornbread and tea My daughter made some at her house and said people were coming from all over wanting a taste. My son in law had a few of his hunting buddies over and they all had to try it. Lucky it made a great big pot full.
  17. each of us have our own little corner of the world and it is never perfect , but to deal with what those poor people are dealing with is just horrible to think about. To have sick hungry people having to go looking for food, food that they can't afford because it's so expensive. And in many cases there is no food anyway. I don't think I could deal with that.
  18. Breaded pork chops, twice baked potatoes, salad, tea
  19. Thanks John. I appreciate the quick reply. I just got a new printer and I'm afraid it didn't come with enough ink to print very much. Got a lot of paper tho. Guess I'll just have to get started and probably will have to buy more ink to finish.---some great recipes, aren't they!
  20. Can anybody tell me how many pages this runs to copy? I'd like to have copies for myself and one for my daughter.
  21. I am seriously low on quart jars, used most of the remaining on the chicken soup I canned yesterday. Also did some pints of hamburger and have some more chicken broth to can up today . It may get canned in mayo jars. I have tons of them, bought at yard sales a few years ago, when they started to go to plastic for everything. I figured I'd find a use for glass jars and have dry canned lots in them. Even used for tea glasses too.
  22. Mommato3boys and Mom11--- What yall need is a bigger kitchen and a bunch of helpers. Whew, I'm tired just hearing what you have done!!! Mom11, where in the world do you store so many jars? Mommato3boys, wish someone would give me some deer meat. Your bunch will be eating good this winter!
  23. I canned some 5-bean soup and had enough left over for supper, cornbread and a little piece of ham. It was good. Of course , the kids didn't like it=="We're having BEANS for supper?"===Well ok , just make yourself a sandwich, I'm thru cooking for today.
