  1. Our downstairs flooded again the other day. Not as bad as the previous times so we are thankful for that. We need to wall off the area where the water is getting in. My dh has a friend that may be able to do the work. Shopped for groceries tonight. The prices, especially for meat, are getting ridiculous. Fuel is high, too. My mom mentioned to me that Grandma used to make Grape- Nuts pie. So, I looked up the recipe and sent it to her. It is supposed to taste like pecan? I'm curious so I picked up some Grape- Nuts tonight to try the recipe. I will let you know how it turns out.
  2. Well, today when I woke up, I had to clean up a mess. I looked out the window and saw the yard flooded and knew this couldn't be good. I was right. Our downstairs flooded again! This is the 3rd time in 5 years. Our outside drain was blocked with debris. The water comes in through our laundry room door. We need to get that walled off. Yesterday was so humid. So glad we get a break from that today. We went to Kroger in search of 4 things and ended up with almost $80 of stuff in our cart. We did get a nice little deal on milk. Sell by date Saturday. 1/2 gallons of whole milk for 50 cents each! Dh and I had sushi from Kroger for supper. I really like the Philly roll. He got something spicy. Tonight for supper, we will be having shrimp scampi and salad. The frozen shrimp scampi from Sam's Club is really good.
  3. Thanks for the reminder! I wonder if we can get Christmas stamps yet?
  4. Oh, okay. That's an old blog. I don't know my sign in info for it anymore. I can't pull it up all the time either. It won't show up with my tablet but it shows up on my phone. I don't understand why. Maybe try a different device?
  5. They all look good! Thank you for the birthday wishes, everyone.
  6. I celebrated my 50th birthday today. We went out to eat and everything was so good. While we were there, I remembered that I forgot all about baking my pie for birthday dessert. So, my dessert ended up being M&Ms! I guess we'll have pie tomorrow.
  7. Thank you for the welcome back! 🤗
  8. Happy birthday, Little Sister! 🎂
  9. Yes, I actually own that book but haven't read it all the way through yet. What I have read is interesting.
  10. Hello, ladies~ It has been ages since I was last on here. Hope to be around here more. Since last here, I have aged. Lol! I have a big birthday next Monday. I'll be 50. To usher in this " event", I got my hair cut. It was to my middle back and now it's above my shoulders and I have bangs back, too! Still deciding if I want to keep the grey or color it. I became a Grammie, too. Hubby is Paw-Paw. Little boy, almost 2 and little girl, almost 2 months. Samuel and Nora. They live in NB, Canada and we live in WV. So, we haven't gotten to hold the littlest yet. Darn closed border. Hopefully, by next Spring, it will be open. We mailed out a baby gift and it was almost $22 to ship in a padded envelope! Money is nice but I would like to give them more personal things. We have 5 kids. Only 2 left to homeschool. 12 yo son and 7yo daughter. We are trying the Charlotte Mason method this year, if you are familiar with that. It is a gentler way of learning and I am really looking forward to it. I plan to do teatime read alouds with the kids, too. They like " tea". We wanted to get some apple trees to plant this past spring but it never seemed to want to warm up. So, this Fall we are going to try. Next spring, I would like to try to put out a small garden patch. I wanted my dh to build me a container gardening structure, but that was a no- go due to lumber prices. He is going to build a firepit but not sure when. The weather has been pleasant this Summer. A lot of rain though, which is discouraging to my dh, who would like to ride his motorcycle to work. We recently got a new SUV. We decided to go down to one vehicle since I don't drive anymore. Vehicle insurance bill dropped, too. So, that is nice. Saves about $60 per month. Well, I need to get to bed now. I hope to catch up with you all! Goodnight! ~Tina
  11. Hi everyone, I imagine that most of you don't remember me. It's been a looooonng while since I was here last. I am so happy to still see the site here. So many forums have moved to facebook. I'm good with FB but I like the layout of this forum and there is so much good info. We are living in WV, renting out home for the last 3 years. Hopefully buying it in May.Oldest child got married last spring, lives in Canada, and he and his wife are expecting our first grandbaby in Fall. I hope to participate more.

  13. Hi there! Been busy with a climbing (on me) toddler(she'll be 2 in May).Hard to get on the internet with her pushing buttons. Homeschooling the boys, too. On top of that, we are losing our home. So, I am packing here and there. My dh lost his job in December 2014, then never got permanent employment until July 2015. So, we got behind on the payments. Mortgage company said they were working with us all along. Well, they lied. I think they meant "working" us out of our home. My dh works out of state. So, we'll be moving anyway. Whenever that may be. We'll have to rent but it may be a blessing.I am looking forward to a smaller home and smaller rent payment.

  23. THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES: (If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.) 1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the top. 2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the waistbands. 3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes - walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines. 4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first. 5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail! What would the neighbors think? 6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend, or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake! 7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so you could hide your "unmentionables" in the middle (perverts & busybodies, y'know!) 8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather... Clothes would "freeze-dry." 9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes! Pins left on the lines were "tacky"! 10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item. 11. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket, and ready to be ironed. 12. IRONED???!! Well, that's a whole OTHER subject! [There is one thing that's left out. We had a long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clotheslines up so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty. You have to be a "certain age" to appreciate this one.... (But you YOUNGER ones can read about "The GOOD ol' days"!!) I can hear my mother now.....] And now a POEM ... A clothesline was a news forecast, To neighbours passing by, There were no secrets you could keep, When clothes were hung to dry. It also was a friendly link, For neighbours always knew If company had stopped on by, To spend a night or two. For then you'd see the "fancy sheets", And towels upon the line; You'd see the "company table cloths", With intricate designs. The line announced a baby's birth, From folks who lived inside, As brand new infant clothes were hung, So carefully with pride! The ages of the children could, So readily be known By watching how the sizes changed, You'd know how much they'd grown! It also told when illness struck, As extra sheets were hung; Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe too, Haphazardly were strung. It also said, "On vacation now", When lines hung limp and bare. It told, "We're back!" when full lines sagged, With not an inch to spare! New folks in town were scorned upon, If wash was dingy and gray, As neighbours’ carefully raised their brows, And looked the other way. But clotheslines now are of the past, For dryers make work much less. Now what goes on inside a home, Is anybody's guess! I really miss that way of life, It was a friendly sign When neighbours’ knew each other best... By what hung out on that line.
