  1. I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but Homesteader mentioned Amazon and reference books. I get many of my college books at Half.com. My pathology/physiology book was $135.00 and I got it for $6.00 plus shipping (about $5.00). I thought there might be more students or parents of students who might like that type of discount. Everything helps when tuition rates are so high.
  2. Good Morning everyone. The sun is shining here today. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. I have lots to do, sometime today. This coming weekend I get my nieces and nephew for the weekend. It is an annual event for us. We do their Christmas shopping all in one weekend (opening deer season weekend). If there isn't going to be any active hunting, my hubby usually takes my nephew out to the blind for a bit. Nephew is young, but absolutely loves it. His parents aren't ready for him to hunt yet, though they don't mind him going to the blind. The girls and I will hit every shopping center around... hee hee. I can't wait. Buttercup, the reason classes are on saturday is that most of the students work full time jobs. It is a program through one of our state universities. It is really great. We usually meet about 6-7 times and then the class is over, but it is an all day event when we do meet. It beats tying up a few months going every day or even a couple times a week.
  3. Caveman, The little glitch isn't causing me a problem, but just knowing time is running out.... whew... that is giving me concern.
  4. "Does money motivate women differently than men?" I think so. {Think about yourself and your job--would you prefer more money or more "benefits" (ie-flex time, etc)? I would like better benefits, flex time, ability to work from home, ability to take the day off without pay if necessary. Would you be more likely to leave one job for another because it paid more. Hard question. It would depend on the location of the new job and just how much money. Would a raise motivate you to work harder/longer/better(quality)? Money is a great motivator, so yes I think it would help in the short term. Is money a long term or a short term motivator?} Short term. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Men answer for their gender and vice-versa. (Please indicate your gender somewhere in your post--sometimes it's hard to guess from the screen names.) Spider is female.
  5. Alclary, Also, order the Burpee and Gurney catalogs. You'll have time over the winter to make plans. Burpee has an heirloom catalog. In case you don't know, you can save the seeds from heirloom plants and then replant them. They won't revert back to one of the parent plants like a hybrid tends to do. Some of the heirlooms also have better flavor. Bradywine tomatoes are awesome. So are Rutgers. I have a whole list of the heirlooms I plant,if you are interested, just PM me.
  6. I put onions, carrots, lots of ham, and chicken broth in my soup. Then I make the biggest pot that I can so I have leftovers to can.
  7. Good morning everyone. Here are some chocolate chip muffins and chai to get everyone going. Enjoy! I love the snow. It must be cold because my furnace hasn't stopped since I got up. Well everyone have a blessed day.
  8. Slgrubbs, I'm not a mom, so I might be off here. My mom ran a day care for years and always had some of those plastic pants that go over cloth diapers... do they still make those. If you could find some they would at least allow you to use those diapers and not have to do so much . Just an idea.
  9. Quiltys its good to hear you are feeling better. Let us know what the doctor says. Today it is nice outside....cold though, 38 when I left home for work. At least the sky was clear. I was finally able to see the two planets in the east. I think someone said they are Saturn and Venus...
  10. Cookies??? Did I hear cookies? Thanks. I would like the high octane coffee, but I can't have it so I will try the rosemary and honey tea. I have never had that before. How do you make it, Theyd? I do need a break, all this school is really getting to me. Thanks for suggesting it.
  11. I heard a statistic on the news that stated in the 18-28 year old range only 10% voted. I don't know where they got that information, but wow.... that is kind of sad. On the other hand there were three young people voting for the first time while I was at my precinct.
  12. How True, How True... that must be me.... any kind of chocolate will do... brownies, cake, fudge, candy, you name it....Chocolate.
  13. Got home from voting. It was busy here too. I'm really glad to see so many people voting. We live in a fairly small town and the city hall was pretty packed. There were three young'un's there. It was their first time voting. They came with their mothers... moms must be so proud.

    MONDAY!!!

Hello everyone.... here are some double chocolate chip chunk cookies... will that help to endure the squabbling? I have to admit I will be glad to see the ads go. It was COLD here this morning and damp. They are forecasting flurries here by the end of the week. I can hardly wait for snow
  15. Wow!!! Thanks for such good information. I'm going to go crazy all winter now waiting for that Burpee and Gurney catalog....
  16. I was very fortunate to have known all my grandparents and a great-grandma. My dad's dad was a wonderful man. I remember he and my dad looked so much alike, the only difference being white hair and black hair. He came and spent a summer with us when I was about 5. After he returned home to St. Louis,MO, he had a severe stroke. He was never able to speak again and the aunts and uncles down there put him in a nursing home. We used to go every year to see him. I remember the last time we went, I walked ahead of everyone else.... he recognized me, smiled, and began searching the room for my dad. They were very close. It was a sad day when he died. I was 16. My grandma on that side was a trip. I was born on her 60th birthday. When I was little I thought she was the most wonderful woman... she bought me a full make up kit when I was only about 9...awesome. She died when I was 10 and I was sad then too. Later (when I was an adult) I found out some very distasteful things about her. I'm saddened that my memories are now clouded by those things. On my mom's side, my great-grandma was the neatest lady. She was about 4'10" and just about as wide (we all blame her still for our hips). She always had this candy (nobody liked it) and her house always smelled like it. She could do anything such as sewing, knitting, crocheting. She taught my mom to do those things and mom taught us. I also remember that whenever we got a sore throat, we would have to have grandma "paint" our throat. I think that was mercurocrom (sp)... something, horrible tasting, yuk. But she was sweet. We all got Christmas presents every year.... she had 3 children, a couple of dozen grandchildren, more great-grandchildren, and her first great-great-grandchild was born a couple days before she died. Her son was my grandpa. My mom's mom was a little lady who was sick most of my life. She was kind of sneaky and could be kind of mean. I loved her dearly, but... One thing we had in common was our love of family history. Now my Grandpa... the sun rose and set at his feet. When we were little he would take us to the market for Hershey's Kisses... see, it's really not my fault that I love chocolate. He was the best grandpa. It still makes me sad to think about him. Because mom and I have an interest in our family history, I do have stories of all of my other grandparents back to my GG-grandparents. I'm truly thankful for all my memories of my grandparents and all the wisdom and character they have left to me.
  17. After reading all these posts from Lois, I'm wondering what would be useful to plant in a "healing garden". I would appreciate everyone letting me know... What would you plant in your "healing garden"?
  18. Bobbie, Hello neighbor. You are right on one...MMCC. The other is Ferris State. PM me and we'll talk more. I'm not really willing to give too much info here, but I wouldn't mind through a PM.
  19. Alclary, Happy Birthday. May God bless your special day.
  20. Dee, thanks. I have not read those. As soon as school is over I'll be heading to the library so I'll look for those books. I'll have about a month to read before classes start again in January.

    towels

My hubby takes our old towels to the garage or the boat to use. Out there they don't necessary have to be "pretty".
  22. Hello everyone. I've been up for hours now (daylight savings time does that to me). Missed posting yesterday but I had school all day. When I got home from school we didn't have power... so I rounded up everything we would need before it got dark (lanterns, radio, flashlights, etc). I had just gotten done and the power came on. I was kind of looking forward to doing without, kind of a trial run in case of something bigger. Oh well, I had everything I needed, except extra batteries. I'll pick them up this week. Today we are going to rake our leaves and get that done. We have a huge canopy of full grown trees.... lots of leaves. That will take most of the afternoon. Then it's back to the homework.
