  1. My first thought was a chicken gravy (with chunks of chicken in it) over rice.. easy to adjust the amount of chicken in the gravy and the type of rice (we use mainly brown rice). If you like mixed foods you can easily add in some corn or green beans to make it a one dish meal. cottage cheese with fresh fruit makes a yummy high protein snack or dessert skewered meats and veggies that you grill go on top of salad or rice nicely.. I have a favorite marinade around here that is only used for like 30-60 minutes so you don't have to remember to use it early in the day. a pasta prima vera with grilled chicken would be great too.. adjust the amounts to what works for you (maybe a whole grain pasta?) I like a beef stew made without tomatoes but all the other standard veggies and maybe some wine tossed in. You can use up leftover meats or just brown something (I will often just use hamburger) and then some gravy, layer in your baking pan with the meat and gravy on the bottom toss on some veggies and then cover with a thinned out biscuit dough.
  2. introverted vs extroverted isn't so much about whether you are outgoing or not.. but about how you gain energy. Extroverts will tend to feel energized by being with and interacting with groups of people(being alone is neutral or draining). Introverts will tend to feel drained from the interaction (even if they enjoy it) and need time to recuperate afterward with some alone time. I'm an extrovert but I've learned caution over my life so depending on the day and the test I have been know to "test" as introverted or close.. and I'm sure I'm extroverted. I came up with ESFP.. which isn't what I always get.. the ones that are close to the break are the S and P so it really depends on the particular questions and my mood of the day how I answer.
  3. I don't care much for online classes.. though they have their place. But there's lots of programs that are dvd based that also have the books needed. Like Teaching Textbook Math that can be done entirely on the computer OR entirely with the books that come with it. Not only is it a good idea to have your own books.. but even if you have a good library system to work with.. they still often have time limits and you still have to keep track of them and get them back etc. Having enough books yourself is great.. enough.. and then if you can you can always expand with books from the library. But I'd not go too quickly unless you feel you can adapt a program as you go. Kids learn in a variety of ways so you either need to be able to adapt to the child or get programs for the child for the best outcomes for all kids. I use the same Math programs for all my kids but I adapt as I go with individual kids and add in things etc. And don't limit your library building to the young ages.. I'd get an overview for all ages.. especially at the adult level.. you can always teach from an adult book to a young child.. much harder to expand for the older child if you don't have the information on hand.
  4. Have you received the break down from BC/BS showing what they'll pay and what the co-pay is and what's left over that you pay? Take that with you and it'll show that because they're an in network provider that you only owe to the limit on what BC/BS allows. Then if they still try and charge you over that, you'll need to take it to higher ups.. Office Manager at the Dentist, BC/BS - ask them what you can do and how do you report them for failing to comply with agreed on payment, and whoever else you can report it to.
  5. Rereading Deep Winter and Shatter by Thomas Sherry. There's a third book but my friend that recommended them did not recommend the third book.. and the way the second book goes I decided that she was likely right and never have gotten it or read it. But I like the first book a lot and the second book ok.
  6. My grandmother did a lot of these things. And yeah, we had to clear out what she and my grandfather saved. I do save some thing but I'm more discriminating. Funny enough I do save bread bags.. so I can use them with homemade breads. But I don't save a lot of other jars and such except peanut butter plastic jars (great for holding stuff in the garage) unless I have a specific use. My girls have all gone through loving the American Girl historical books. Both my mother and I have a hard time reading Kit outloud. That set of books is set during the depression.. main character is a 12 yr old girl. My grammy would have been 9 the year it's set in. So we read these things and can remember grammy doing and/or telling us about doing these same things. Grammy is the one person that I can distinctly remember teaching me skills even without me knowing about it. She would teach just because you were in the room with her. Telling you what she's doing and why. I learned a lot of cooking from her, canning, gardening, stocking a pantry.. and some of these things I don't even know I learned from her until I start learning about them and racking my brain for what I might know.. and there she is again telling me about something because my sister and I would be included in whatever she was working on.
  7. You could use a ring like a wok sits on to hold it flat.
  8. Needed fixin's for the simpler meals we like so today I tossed a beef 7 bone roast AND a pork shoulder roast into the oven AND have the electric roaster full of cooking pinto beans. I'm shredding up the meat.. making taco meat with the beef.. shredded it and then seasoned half with taco seasoning and half with onions, bell peppers and chile, the pork will be tamale filling and carnitas and the beans go with everything
  9. Can you get elderberries up there MtRider? They tend to like drainages but I don't recall their elevational likes.
  10. Well you can make tea with it. and if you don't like drinking it as tea, I've been known to make a deathly strong tea in a small amount and then let it get lukewarm and gulp it down rather than sip tea. dark green leafies are on the list as good sources of magnesium so it's not just the red raspberry leaves.. but they do have it.
  11. red raspberry leaf is also very good for hormonal issues And magnesium helps with heart beat irregularities
  12. Oh and any alcohol over 80proof can be used to make tincture.. vodka is generally used because it's colorless and odorless and mostly tasteless.. but you can get other things... everclear is a high alcohol content one with the same qualities as vodka for doing tincture.. sold at 151 or 190 proof.. but if you like the taste or it's what you can get cheap.. any alcohol will work.. rum or whiskey or whatnot.. just check that it's at least 80 proof (40%).
  13. Well, I'd probably consult books but off the top of my head. The manure is well seasoned so it should be fine to add it to the soil and plant immediately. I would likely dig it in. I would also want to add plant material to the dirt.. like grass clippings, decaying leaves, (again would need to consult book here). But if I didn't have it.. If I don't need the harvest from that area, I might also plant something that will get tilled back under for the next year (consult book but seems to me it's a sort of legume you want but not sure.. maybe something like alfalfa).. with additional addition of compost.. if the soil is that bad alot will leach out each year.. and growing the green fertilizer will also give you a hint about how the soil is.. probably want to duplicate the first year's additions for at least the second year.
  14. I don't know if it would work for this but when we made elderberry jam, we'd use a potato ricer to get the pulp from the berries without having to stem/seed them. And I wouldn't worry about if the schnapps is "mellow enough".. for tincture use you can add it to something else.. even just a bit of water to tone it down if you need to, to swallow a dropper full.
  15. Generally Elderberry and Ginger are good antivirals.. and pineapple and ginger are good antiinflammatories and so reduce the swelling in airways and nasal passages.. you can get capsules.. but pineapple makes an awesome smoothie with some fresh ginger grated into it.

    Removing label 'glue'

razor blade, then remove residue with goo gone
  17. If you put just a layer of salt it will keep the wax from sticking to the bottom... lift right out
  18. Oh yes.. and they don't have to be the "correct size" dress up stuff from the toy store.. head to a thrift shop and anything pretty and bright and sparkly is a good choice. Scarves are excellent and can be a whole wardrobe by themselves. Hats are awesome. Costume jewelry and a box to keep it in.
  19. If you don't want the candle so far inside the jar you can make a bed of salt to set the candle on. It's prettier than sand.
  20. If she likes them then pretties for her hair like headbands with flowers or just the flower clips to go in her hair or pink ruffled socks or..
  21. What a nice sounding day. Oh something else you might look for in "bars".. I have a friend who makes lotion bars. I haven't tried any myself (she's a few states away) but you might keep an eye and try some if you keep lotion on hand.

    Roll call...

I've got some fresh from the oven "Dried Fruit Cookies" aka "Fruitcake Cookies". Advent is such a busy season since we do special reading time every evening with the lighting of the Advent wreath.
  23. The twine looking balls I think are considered "crochet thread" and you'd make doilies and more lacy types of stuff (I've used it for doing blanket stitching on woolens). I think my favorite is the Lily Sugar 'n Cream (I get it at Michaels). It's a 2 oz size but it makes 1-2 dish clothes depending on the size/pattern.
  24. My number one favorite project to crochet is a dishcloth. So I mainly use cotton yarns now. I finished up one last night and rather than starting a new one I rolled up a bunch of skeins that I had so that I can pick and choose when I next sit down to make a dishcloth. In the meantime and when I can process the directions.. I'm making some boot toppers for my almost 8 yr old. Good way to pretty up some utilitarian snow boots. I hope to get at least one set made for her birthday in not quite 2 weeks.
  25. There are tons of dairy farms in CA.. also they grow a lot of the feed that would feed dairy cows probably not just in CA.. and without water you can't grow stuff so..
