  1. Do you all know you can use the fels naptha bars on poison ivy? A pharmasist told me this 40 years ago, just wet the bar and rub it on the area of your skin that has the poison on it and let it dry, reapply as needed.
  2. I buy my jars at Big Lots, they are a couple dollars cheaper there.
  3. How do you use the cabbage when its reconstituded? Is it only for soups or can it be used for coleslaw? Its on sale here this week so thought I might try it.
  4. We had a speaker at my quilt club last week that knitted a vest with recyled clothing-she cut it up in half inch strips and also used yarn with it holding both together as one,it was very nice.
  5. Also watch those 10 for $10.00 sales-some of that stuff is only 89 or 99 cents regular price and you also have to buy all 10.
  6. Yesterday I froze 5lbs of Blueberrys, freeze on a cooky sheet with sides and then put in freezer bags in 2 cup portions-done this way they don't stick together.
  7. I take the THICK jelly-any kind -brown pork chops on both sides, spoon the jelly on top and put in the oven to finish cooking the pork chops, about 20 minutes. This is very good,we like orange jelly the best.
  8. Everything here is very dry also.I watered my strawberries this morning(just have a small patch in a raised bed) but I got a quart of berrys, they are not producing as well as last year should I fertilize them and if so with what and is it too late?
  9. We have had a chest freezer for many years and when it comes time to clean it- I hate it! I cannot reach the bottom and have to throw towels in the bottom to absorb the water and then comes the chore of trying to reach the towels to wring them out and to wipe the sides down. When we move I want to buy an upright.
  10. I don't really know what a squash room is but could you use it for the storage you need or is it open to the outside?
  11. I got a pasta dodad with my kitchenaid mixer but have never used it,I just mix my noodles by hand and roll them out with my rolling pin.I do use a bread maker but only to make the dough,my hands can't do the kneading anymore. I went to a magnetic pin holder a long time ago but remember the tomato from high school home ec.many many years ago.
  12. I know salt water removes blood stains so maybe soak it in salt water? If its a large area rug just put the part that has the stain in a tote or tub as large as you have and let it soak.If that doesn't work you could try Iron Out.Its in the soap and cleaners aisle in the store.I use this in the toilets every so often as we have a lot of iron in our well water, and iron is RED.
  13. I also fry mine in bacon grease, but first I drain then rinse and drain again then fry.
  14. I so enjoyed my knitting classes-told the instructor I wanted to do cables and she said no problem.Believe it or not my first project was a cable sweater! That was back in the 70's and I've been knitting ever since.
  15. I do both and they both are good=with quilting you can do decor items(wall hangings) and of course quilts.Do you need a lot of bed covers? With knitting you can do clothing items, afgans and such. I would start with the knitting.and maybe someone can teach you the quilting-try to find a quilt club or home makers group in your area.
  16. Thanks for the info-I checked on stretchy sock yarn but it was $5.00 here and it makes only one sock? Thats $10.00 for one pair?
  17. Sock knitting-have any of you added elastic thread in with the yarn used to make them more stretchy and easier to get on? I;m thinking about doing this.
  18. I made the Broccoli Salad but used dried cranberries instead of the raisins and left out the sunflower seeds (didn't have any) and it is wonderful!
  19. I tossed mine because it didn't rise and tasted awful! Not worth us getting sick.Lesson learned? Remember to rotate sooner.
  20. I have tried the peppermint and am now trying Moth Balls! I heard that rodents don't like that smell and have a problem with the chipmunks tearing off my dryer vent (its a plastic cover that I need to duct tape on) and when they get in there it sounds like they are coming in my register vents! Its beside it,cannot imagine having one come in the house! So I went around the outside of the house and put a few moth balls wherever I thought they could get in -haven't heard him since, then I sprinkled some around in the garage where we've had mice coming in.Have traps out there also and haven't caught any,so hopefully its working!
  21. I also do breakfast for dinner,in fact we had pancakes, maple syrup & bacon the other day, just had 3 strips bacon each instead of the 5 we used to do.I make potato/leek soup with chicken broth & serve cornbread with this-great comfort food for a rainy day.
  22. Could I make this with bananas I have frozen that were really really ripe?
