  1. So Violet.....are you telling us you wouldn't go to that Granny's house if invited for dinner? There is a disclaimer on the cream cheese, but there are also many other canning recipes posted that are not even close to being safe.
  2. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Even DH found a couple off those lists!
  3. Pinterest now allows you to have up to 3 secret boards that no one else can see. I love that feature.
  4. I am all twiterpated today! It actually feels like a reunion with long lost friends! Like Dorothy waking up at the end of the Wizard of Oz to see everyone right there with her! Thank you.
  5. I was using the plastic lids on pint and quart jars in my husband's lunch box. Just the other day he asked me to use the 2 pc lids because the plastic ones kept leaking out. I played with water in a jar and sure enough, tight or looser they all leaked. They were new ones too.
  6. Thanks everyone. I have so much reading here to catch up on. Some of the same wonderful people, yet so many new!
  7. Hi everyone. It’s been years. Three or four I think. It feels like 20. God took me in directions that I never would have imagined I’d go. Directions that definitely weren't part of MY plan. When I first started living this lifestyle, everyone here was such a huge help. In the time I’ve been gone, I have grown and learned so much more. While there is always more to learn from everyone here, I would love to be able to give back and help out in any way I can also. Now that I have a little free time, I am requesting permission to rejoin the family if you will have me back. I sure missed it here.
  8. If you don't have a Food Saver, get one. I haven't seen any oddities in my freezer since we started using ours.
  9. Teaberry, for so many reasons, using the soil mix is one of the most important ingredients of a good SFG. Even if you add ammendments to the soil (you can over ammend soil and have it back fire on you), you will not be able to create the same environment. If you are not going to use raised beds and the mix, you may want to reconsider row planting for those items that are not in raised beds. Doing SFG without raised beds and the soil mix has provided less than desireable results for so many people - me being one of them. Even after reading many times not to do it, I thought I could beat the system and be the one to prove it wrong. I did part of my garden that way, and got the same bad result that others before me had. Another thought.....watch craigslist or post a wanted ad on there for the wood. There are many people that have a couple extra after a project and are willing to sell them dirt cheap or just give them to you. Another option would be to use something else until the time was right to get the rest of the wood. Bricks, pavers, broken concrete pieces - they all can make good edging.
  10. I have so many responses to that, but none of them would be appropriate here..... The soup is awesome!
  11. Bump! I was rummaging around in the "best of" and I had to read this again. Advice was given to the newer people to laugh. Here is a good start. Sorry Darlene, but this is such a good read. The story and all of the comments that went with it from everyone else.
  12. Onions. Lots and lots of onions. Both dehydrators are outside and going.
  13. That is a wonderful idea! I am going to have to try that one with the kids!
