  1. i am not that great witht he written words .. well mine words as i can't spell well... but here goes my take...

for us we don't owe on our home nor auto.. on a fixed income here too. ... I agree with the idea that this flu might not hit till sept or oct or later. .. so what my plans are is to take the time from now till then and stock up on as much as i can for such a thing. figuring this summer there should be more stuff on the shelfs for the flu... as people will be spending their $$'s on summer time fun. and not be worrring about any kind of illnesses. ...

we have gone through and talked about what if.. DH check doesn't come in what are our needs that we need to do. we have a way opf cooking keeping warm... some water storage.. but that will run out over time. so we do need to get some leathers so we can put down our hand pump. ..gardening and hunting to replinish the food storage... lighting is fair.. if that runs out well it will be bed time at dark and up when the sun comes up... we live in an area where solor wouldn't be much use. so i guess our biggest concern will be water and meds. but have been working on the meds and going to get those leathers. ... i will have to admitt that our home is one step above a shack but it does keep us shealter... and we are working on it a little here and a little there.. but we both feel it is more important to be prepared. but there are days when i would love to get a set of new curtains or something.. and then reason wins out and i go and get something to add to our ppreps.

    alright enought from me....

  2. pixie ... maybe you can try what my dd does... she talks to the manager of the store... and aske them how much would they charge her for a case or more of this or that and usually they give her a really goood deal. i didn't think this one place would as their prices where cheaper then any place else but they did!! i was surprised. she can even get them to sale her bulk at a little country store. any ways try it all they can do is tell you no... and it doesn't cost to ask.

  4. I am not much of a framer wasn't raised on one or anything, hubby was. so here goes as to what i have done. one year I bought a calf. wrote down in how much calf cost. walked it home one and a half miles didn't have a trailer to haul it. oh, calf was six months old. got it home and stake it out. we have 5A . hubby comes home from work asks what am i going to do with that. told him eat it. he then ask how am i going to keep it in the pasture. told him stake it out. he just grin and went into the house. Got lucky one of the framers around told me i could have all his old fence post all i had to do was go get it out of the feild. Oh, Yea went and got that then bought some barb wire. Add that cost to the calf. as fall apporches hubby ask how are you going to feed it and what about shealter. So far he's been a lot of help Not! so looked around found a farmere with a barn fallen so went and cleared that out for him. and with hubby's help put up a shealther like. Now how to ffeed this critter through the winter? oh, hubby did dehorn him for me. found a place that would sell me hay at a 1.00 a bale and deliver it to me and stacked it up nice for me too. (there was a lot of people feeling sorry for me i guess) Had to use traps to cover the hay no cost there as we already had them. then comes the grain. kept track of that in the book too. now by the time the following fall comes around we are ready to butcher. So call the butcher he comes out shot the calf, and takes it off to cut up fro me. add the cost of that in book grand total came to be under a 1.00 a pound. and we had about 600#'s of meat.

right now we don't have any critter except our dogs and the sheep. and they have been paying their own way too. put soon if things go right I will have another cow.

oh the sheep doesn't cost me a thing to keep. she was given to me as a gift. I winter her at a freinds house and she feeds her with her and come spring she brings her's here to pasture. she doesn't have the pasture room and I don't have the hay. so that works out great for us both. although so far the sheep hasn't broughtin any monies. but do shear both of them and get their wool. one day i will get that wool carded and spun. one day.

  5. (scratch, scratch,)

I can remember when we would have to stay in a motel or something before anyone even got to sit down my mother would have the sheet part way off the beds looking for bedbugs.

as for lice. there's a scream. the last time i got near some kids i got them and it cost me ove r 50.00 to get rid of them and still ended up cutting my hair short. But now I have grown smart. (i stay away from kids) no nat really. we get a bottle of rid or the likes and pour it into a bottle of cream rainse that is half full. then every time you us it it sit in your hair and does the job as you shower. It really worked for us.

    (itch, itch...)
