    Ant kill

Posted due to private request. It is that season when the ant hives send out the explorers. Here is a good counter. Take a cup of warm water, add 1/2 cup of sugar, and three table spoons of borax. Soak cotton balls and place, wet, along the runs. The ants will feast on the sugar, and take the borax back to the next, killing it from the inside. When the ball is dry, toss it, and wipe with any counter top cleaner. Sarah
  3. Admittedly an old topic, but wanted to add a trick. If you get some inkjet foil labels, such as Avery, then mark your sockets and wrenches with the size. And have a size chart, combined sae and metric. Saves lots of time looking for this or that.
  4. Anarchy, thanks for the clarification. Is/was 'lingo'. And I further confused it with a typo. I should have typed: "(presentation of 'key' required per packet or packet rejected)". You understood, I think, thank you. The emoticon search is clumsy, Better than before, so on 'plus' side. Today, we had a bunch of Brownie scouts on tour come in. I had no warning. Too darn cute. And some very good questions from them. If these are example of the upcoming generations, then we will be O.K. I got some good chuckles when the 'adult' leaders discovered the ongoing 'girl scout' project, where we are restoring all such old materials (Girl Scouts, BlueBirds, Camp Fire Girls, Woodscraft, etc.) in our archives. They were waving money in the air! The little ones were watching with looks of 'hoah!' And I got several sensings of 'white lighting' from around Majere's old office. He would have loved it. Sarah
  5. Rain, and the Librum is quiet. Good. Getting some work done, with NO interference. I am working through another index. The History of Science, 1904 (four volumes also to be rescanned). Then The Practical Educator, 1934, with 34 more volumes of that to digitize . (sigh smiley) But spirits are up. The Wilderness Way / Self Reliance Illustrated / Good Earth Almanac combined iLL will be publicly sold. We done good! Wish the price could come down more. And the CountrySide and Small Stock Journal iLL is now on eBay! (I could not find the 'sigh' smiley.)
  6. ??? A 'secure' server? I suspect a 'lingo' here. You do need an 'ssl' or 'socket' to do https. We had to do that with the old thelitterbox.org chat/forum/ftp server ($$ per month extra)(and a static ip number). But I was not aware you had to have a secure server (also called 'dedicated')(presentation of 'key' or packets rejected).
  7. Today working through the SRI index. SRI was a magazine. Self Reliance Illustrated. Actually pretty good. I keep finding myself reading instead of indexing. Have to be firm with myself. Anarchy, can you at least make it a more 'pastel' color, a tan or beige? Easier on the eyes.
  8. The site warning is 'back', as Ambergris reported. Not there yesterday. But no 'unsecure' warning this time. Could this be an SSL issue?.

    I Want One!

    http://www.librum.us/images/charm.jpg Trying by linkage... success.
  10. We reload. Like TheCG. But in our case, we have to use special inks, like micr. Go to amazon/ebay and look for reloadable carts. You can get a set for less cost than a single cart. Ink, on ebay, is less than $20, Five refills. Just avoid true 'cis' and reload'ed'. You want the reload'able' ones.
  11. County level? Do you know what happens to those that do not sell? Disposal. This shipment is from a satellite county library. If yours has sales, and donations, you have one of the better ones. Please support them! My 'button is pushed' again. Brace yourself, I am going to 'pull back the 'curtain'. I *LOVE* 'hard' books. But today, archives are electronic. 'Bulk' / hard copy archives are history. Ditto microfilm/fiche/print. We may be the LAST library who still has film/fiche/print capabilities. We digitize such, and many libraries send such, but most simply destroy. A large part of this shipment is this type of media. Ever visited 'Hathi Trust'? hathitrust.org. Pay a visit! We, the Librum, are part of the 'end of the line'. We do the indexing, and take out what we want. These indexes are sent to a certain major university who is part of the Hathi Trust. They select from that list, and we digitize (which is often 'destructive', the work is 'deconstructed') . Then Hathi sends the index to the Library of Congress, for them to go over the index to pull out anything that was never deposited (usually magazines, often on film/fiche/print)(and again, we digitize.). Please support your library. Especially if it is a 'full service'. We are a dying breed.
  12. Admittedly our 'schooling' system is different. Ours is more of an amalgam between homeschooling and low-level community. We simply make the materials we can get our hands on available. The 'preparedness' is done in the home, not at the community level, we do not integrate. It causes too much 'hen opinion'. But having the materials makes if much better for the homeschooling portion. It seems to work.
  13. Not going to be a good day. Multi semi truck shipment incoming. Pallet loads of materials from another library that is no more. All that sorting and cataloging, salvage and 'disposal'. An emotional issue for me. Especially as I remember many of these from my childhood. For example: a complete set of the 'Campfire Girls' series (forerunner of the Girl Scouts). Time to put on my 'big girl panties'.
  14. Momo, you just pushed one of my buttons, sorry. More than one group. One can buy 'subscription lists', which do seem darn complete from my 'undercover spot checks'. How they get these is anyone's guess, I still think it is the USPS. Anyway, they really are good at imitating the real publishers. And some of the magazines play 'dirty' too. In our case, as a library, we are especially targeted by these scammers, as they know we must keep our subscriptions current. All you can do is report the attempts to the publisher, but not much can legally be done. And beware of 'library archive' sellers using the same gambits. These offer the decanted articles over a span of issues. These are USUALLY not legit. There are legitimate ones, such as the LOC's iLL program, which we work with. One just has to do the homework, . Sarah
  15. J. C. Whitney. They still carry the in-freeze-plug and the magnetic mount ones. Please don't ask me how I know.
  16. Speaking as a Librarian, Thank You Ladies. We have too many closing due to lack of use. Thank You.
  17. Umm... Did we tick somebody off? The ICSArchive went through this not long after is spun off from the Librum site. I want to say 2014. Anyone can declare any site is a plisher. After so many reports, it gets flagged (five in as many months?)(Does not have to be unique reporter). After so many 'not deceptive site' reports (three per unique sender negative report, so 15 minimum?), the flag comes off. But a few malcontents can 'stack the deck'. In the Archives case, it took one of their UK lawyers making a call to Google, threatening a Denial Of Service case.. Knowing that we do not have the legal resources to have legal talk done, keep reporting as not deceptive, eventually the malcontents will give up. I hope. Sarah

    Karo?

Got a response back. Apparently 'back in the day' there was a fad of 'light' and 'natural' syrups, and Karo slanted it's advertising towards such. This struck me as funny, as Karo, to me, is a 'heavy'. Justice is done. Hubby snatched out a bag of nuts from the freezer and had some fun. 'Pecan Pie' with walnuts instead. Sarah
  19. Quoting function having trouble again... "(it must be electrical tape) over the hole." Hmm... I can understand that. But you have me wondering if 'gaffers tape' would be as good, or better. Gaffers tape is duct tape, with the same stickum as the post-it papers. It got its name from gaffers, people who set up cabling for bands. It does not leave the sticky duct tape residue. We use it to make air tight temporary seals on all sort of things. Sarah
  20. That is probably why the rice is 'packeted'. Packet would be too large for the holes. The bearing would be too. To reinforce a point: While doing your research be sure the descriptions say 'food safe' for the silica pouches. Some of them are a 'witches brew'. Sarah

    Karo?

Thanks Cat. Interesting. I note that they make a point of saying 'corn syrup' when saying Karo. Sarah.
