  1. We picked about 1/3 of our apples thinking that if we didn't, Earl would claim them. Today, I dehydrated about 1/2 of the ones we picked. This was my first time using the Nesco we got a few weeks ago. My first batch, I sliced the apples too thin. The second batch was better. Neither batch was anything like the dried apples I'm used to, though. I usually buy the kind without sulfur, but they're softer & chewier. Is there a way to get that texture in a dehydrator? (I soaked my slices about 10 minutes in a 4:1 water:lemon juice mixture) Thanks!
  2. All great ideas! I suppose we'll see what direction this particular course takes & name it after the fact. Do y'all school year-round? I did more unschooling with my son, but my daughter wants more structure. She started today so she'd have a few extra free days throughout the year & it took her forever to finish! Don't know if I scheduled too much or if she was just pokey, since I had to work today & her dad was out mowing. We'll get it worked out. Hope your week is off to a great start!
  3. Hi Stephanie! I was just thinking that I should show my youngest daughter (14) how to use the treadle sewing machine my son (19) just fixed! On our way to the store today, I talked with her about what she should do if the power goes out & no one is home, and no one can come home for a while. Things like - use the food in the fridge first, where to find the wind-up radio, how to light the stove. We'll definitely be doing more of that sort fo thing this year. I wonder what we could call that as an elective...
