  1. Didn't make it to the feed and seed this morning as a friend of mine wanted me to watch Biden on Fox news. So I did but was really not interested in what he had to say.

Daughter coming in tomorrow evening late, and is staying in hotel as they are heading straight out to the 2 sheds they have to empty and then she is going to see a friend as it is her birthday and she wants to give her a gift.  So on Sat. I am going with my neighbor to breakfast and then to the farmers market in Smithfield.  I should be back by noon.  I won't see DD till sometime in the afternoon and Friday night I go to granddaughters for dinner.. So this is going to be a fast trip for daughter and son in law as they are going to be really busy. Didn't know they had 2 storage units to empty.  I just hope they get the stuff they have here as it is in my way and I have things I want to get done. Will see how it goes.  I will see them before they head back home. So that will be good.

Hoping I can make it to the feed and seed tomorrow morning as I need to get some tomato plants, peppers and cucumber plants.  Was going to start them from seeds but to much of DD stuff in the way and I have no where to put them now. So plants will do this year. Not going to plant a lot this year anyway. Need to get the greenhouse and things set up for next year. Then I will have a lot of the food in house used up and will be ready for a bigger garden.

It was 79* today and beautiful today. Yesterday was warm but we had rain off and on. So couldn't get a lot done yesterday.  Got the flowers I dried from Dh's funeral and sprayed for the shadow box I am doing and then the huge medal sun for the end of the shed at driveway spayed with the UV spray. Going to try to get that hung up this weekend. Then it won't be a plain old shed facing the street.  That will dress it up a bit. Then going to plant some flowers at the bottom of the shed. I want some flowers that will draw bees for the garden for next year.

  2. I forgot to log out last night.     Seems the middle of the country is really getting a beating.  This is really bad.  Please everyone in those areas stay as safe as you can.  If this type of weather keeps up the middle states which is the bread basket of the country will be wiped out. Prices will rise because of this. Hope this one won't do the damage the last one did.

  3. Midnightmom, I did get another social security check  the second week of March as they said they owed DH money.  Then I got a second social security check on the 24th which was the one I was suppose to get.  I think that I will be able to keep the 1400 that they also sent for Dh. my financial planner called this afternoon and I asked him about it. He said he is fairly sure I would be able to keep it as Dh was still living when they decided to give it out. So that would be nice.  I have now payed off all the charge cards from the funeral. So no more bills. :hapydancsmil:Big load off my mind. Now I might feel more like getting out and shopping, now that I know where I stand, concerting I haven't had any money coming in other that 2 social security checks. The rest of the life insurance is not going to be touched.  That is in a different account for emergencies.  Might head out to the feed and seed tomorrow.

  4. Thank you for letting me know euphrasyne. Glad you are ok on food. I am going to pack it up to take to the Church food ministry.  Just more than I will be able to use before it goes out of date.  Our church feeds about 40 families that can't afford to buy food so I know they can use it.

Here it is 3:30 in the morning and I just can't sleep.  I will dose off and then wake up.  I hate nights like this and glad they don't happen often. Might be because I was taking the winter clothes out of dresser and putting the summer clothes in and I packed up Dh's winter clothes that was in the dresser. Might just be because of that.  But either way here I am on computer. Glad it has the blue light on.

I have my mind on so many things I want to do around here. Things I had been planning on doing 2 years ago and was never able to get it done. Now I have time on my hands and laying in bed thinking about all the things I need to do is not getting me any rest.  Was thinking earlier about that yard sale for old books I have read and a lot of other things I have in the shed. Need to get that cleaned out.

  5. Got ours on the 17th but I am betting they will take back half of it as DH pasted away on Feb. 14th.  But still got the money. So holding back using half of it till I see what they are going to do.  Should know after my taxes are filed if they take it back or not.  Time will tell. Hoping I will be able to keep it as I will use it to pay a year of taxes on house again like I did last year instead of just 6 months on it.

  6. Homesteader, I am so sorry to hear about your mom.  Seems these past couple of years have been hard on so many.  Glad you were able to get a hospital bed that would work good for her and she was able to sleep much better. That will help her so much.

I haven't been to Walmart in over a year.  Wonder how empty the shelves are there now.  Will have to make a trip over there sometime next week after all the kids have gone home.  They will be here this weekend.  Daughter, son in law and grandson.

Grandson has his plane ticket and will be heading to Washington on the 4th of April.  I really hope and pray he will get his life together and start doing right. Maybe this will be the best thing for him as he and his mother do but heads over nothing most of the time. He has always done well with his oldest sister and they have always done a lot together, so hoping this is the best option for him.

Finally, they found my tax papers again and they have been delivered to the CPA.  CPA called and said they have finally gotten them all intact. So they are now starting to work on them.  Just hope I get money back and not have to pay anything.  That is a big relieve off of my shoulders.

I think next week, I need to start getting out of house for a bit as I haven't been able to just get out and go shopping for past couple of years and now I just can't seem to get myself to go anywhere other than for groceries or to pick up my RX's.  Need to start forcing myself to get out.  Would like to get to JoAnn fabrics as they have a 1/2 price sale on flannel material and I would like to get some of that. Need to do that soon. So may go tomorrow as we are going to have more rain today and I don't want to get caught out in a heavy downpour going as far as I would have to go to get there.  Need to get my coupons together also for the extra savings.

Going to sit down in a while and get the bills paid off.  My two charge cards came in for the funeral and now I can write the checks and send them on their way and get those cards paid off.  Then I will no longer have any bills again other than insurances and utilities bills.  Would like to keep it that way. Cash only for what I buy from now on.

This morning I got kitchen cleaned up and floor mopped.  Then going back in office to start working on the big mess in there.  Need to go through the food and start putting some of it in car to take to church for our food ministry.  It is way to much food for me to eat even for hard times. But still in the back of my mind, I keep telling my self to hold on to it. But if I can't eat it within a year then it might go bad.  Where it was set up for DH and myself and a little extra, it has now become just me and a lot of extras. So some of it needs to go.  If any of you lived anywhere near me I could give you a lot of food. But no one lives that close other than euphrasyne and she is welcome to anything she can use if she wants it.  euphrasyne you can message me if you would like some canned food before I take it to the church.  Would be very happy to let you have some of it if you can use it.

  7. Might be something for me to think about. Now that I am living alone.  Having another dog would be good.  I was was outside yesterday and my neighbor across the street got another puppy. That makes 2 dogs for them now. The first one is almost 2 years old.  I sort of fell in love with the puppy. Both dogs are labs. But not sure if I would want a lab as they are not the best watch dogs and protectors.  But they are so lovable. I would want to fence in the yard or at least part of the yard for a dog to be able to get outside when I can't take it walking. But that is something to think about at a later time.

  8. Thank you for that Annarchy.  It has been five weeks this past Sunday that DH had passed and I am still trying to figure out my life without him now. I have been back and forth with the post office about loosing my tax papers again. Hoping this time they will get them delivered. Right now I have no money coming in till everything from our retirement is done and fully turned over to me for my monthly checks. Though I do have money to pay my bills so I am ok for now. But found out today that AXA made a mistake and my financial planner is having a fit because of it. So he is trying to push it along as fast as he can.  I have been just trying to keep busy with doing things around the house. Still can't go through DH's clothes and get them packed away. I still have my moments and night is the worse. But I work through it. Don't think there is a right nor a wrong way to deal with this. Everyone is different. There were some things I had to do right after the funeral and now I am just trying to get taxes done if the post office will stop loosing my tax papers.

I did start back to church and then to cemetery on Sundays. The first Sunday was rough as DH wasn't with me when I went. But the second Sunday was much better. It will take time but I will get through it.

CG. Glad you had a good time at the beach. Maybe I should do that. Just get away from it all for a week. Just might do me some good. Though here it is still a bit cold for the beach. Might go up to Lynchburg to visit my cousins. It's a 5 hour drive but I have been wanting to do that.

Foxes, looking to mate this time of year. I didn't know about the screams they make when ready to mate. Yeah, guess no mascara was needed for that. Funny what wild animals do.

Been back and forth with my grandson now for 2 days. He is not going into military now but is moving up to Washington state to live with his sister. He best be getting a job and doing right. Video games don't cut it and that is all he wants to do.  He wants to go to college to be a game designer. But he won't study to get there. He was in college 2 years ago and had just started and then flopped out. So he is not ready. He is  19 years old and still has a lot of growing up to do.  He wanted to come live with me and I told him no. He had to many friends that had a bad influence on him and he would be right back with that group. So not coming here as I won't allow that kind of behavior.  Hope his sister can get him on the right track. Though she is the one that talked her out of going into military. Maybe her husband can work with him on getting a better score on the test for military so he wouldn't have to go into infantry. He passed that test by 1 point. So not good. He just doesn't try. Can't say if it is him or if this corvid has like others makes him feel like he has no future so why try.  But that is not the attitude to take. This mess is not what I need right now, so time to disappear for a couple of weeks from home. Trip to Lynchburg is looking good. But if I get to Farmville where I was born, I might start looking around there for places to live. I love it there. Beautiful hill country with lots of farmland.  Though I wouldn't buy a farm but a house with about an acre or two of land. That thought has crossed my mind many times.

  9. I have heard about the volcano in Iceland but had not seen pictures of it.  Pretty to watch but I wouldn't want to be there.  Earthquakes as well. Signs of the times for sure.

  10. Seems everyone has been busy.  New car that looks great. Bet that is a nice quiet, smooth ride euphrasyne.   I like it.

I have been busy with some paper work. Seems it never ends.  They got my taxes all the way to Norfolk and now another notice that they will be late. They have been late since the 8th of March when they were suppose to have been delivered. Guess I will be on phone again tomorrow about it.

Fell asleep on couch watching TV yesterday and must have had my left arm under me some how. I can't hardly move it today. Took a muscle relaxer a bit ago and the pain has eased off but still can't straighten it out without pain. Couldn't even get my hair up in a ponytail this morning. Hope by tomorrow morning it will be better.

Went to Church Sunday and then to cemetery. Came home and got some lunch and just relaxed and read a book for a while.  Been rather tired these past few days. Guess everything is catching up with me now.  Seems like I have been on a never ending roller coaster. One thing after the other to get done.

Just about ready for bed now as the muscle relaxer is making me sleepy.  Need to get kitchen cleaned up tomorrow as I had started going through cabinets and getting those cleaned out. Need to get some older food moved to kitchen so that will get eaten first.

Ate some corn beef hash this morning with expiration date of 2016. Can was in great shape and no bulges so I knew it was not bad. I check all my canned food before opening them.  For being 5 years out of date it was really good. So I know the canned food for the most part as long as it is not acid foods like fruit and things will last a long time. Though I don't think I would go past 5 years on any canned food.

  11. First time seeing this. Interesting.  My granddaughter in Washington state trains service dogs.  That is good that the dog could pull that little boy in the wagon. Good job.

  12. Glad everyone so far is doing ok in this messy weather.   Please stay safe from all this.

We didn't get anything so far. Just cloudy weather.  Hope we don't get it but I think tomorrow is suppose to rain. It was in the low 70's today and was nice other than no sunshine to speak of.  And I really don't want to see that much snow around here.

  13. My taxes are still in limbo. So I put in another service request and went higher up the latter. Will see what happens now.

My granddaughter got here yesterday from Washington state and my other granddaughter's friend from Alaska also got here yesterday. I haven't seen her in a long while.  We all had dinner at my granddaughter's house and then a bit later my granddaughter and I came back home.  We went out to breakfast this morning and then went around to a lot of the small shops around here. She has left to go back home this afternoon. So it was a short trip. My other granddaughter's friend will be leaving tomorrow morning.  I will be having dinner at her house tomorrow night as it is her turn to cook.

My granddaughter from Washington bought a slice of rhubarb pie for me to try.  I had never eating it before. She said they have it all over Washington and was really good.  She wants to try growing some in her garden.  Might have to try that here as well.  I had never had chicken chili either and my granddaughter that lives here made it for dinner last night. Wow that was great.  So I am learning some new foods to eat.  I best be careful as I will be putting on weight I don't need.

Got The bills paid this evening and ready to send out this evening. Paid the ones I could on line or by phone. Only had one I had to mail.

Tomorrow I will be washing sheets and running over to neighbor's house to help her change her bandage from a surgery she had. It's on her back and she can't reach it to do it.

Granddaughter got my books out of attic for me so will be going though those tomorrow and get the ones I am keeping in the bookcases. Its about 6 boxes. I think half of those will be going to good will.

Glad to see that everyone was safe from that snow storm.  We never got the thunder and lighting and heavy rain they said we would be getting. But it was cloudy all day.

  14. Waiting for granddaughter to get here. Should be here in an hour or so.  My other granddaughter had a doctors appt. and then met up with her, so they are grabbing a bite to eat and heading this way.

I have been very dizzy today. Never like this before.  Checked B/P and it was a bit high but had just taken my blood pressure meds so had not kicked in yet. I am thinking it is my neck.  All that lifting and moving furniture around may have messed it up again. Got to work it to get it lined up again. Will be talking to doctor after things calm down about getting an X-ray to see if the plate has come loose or something and then going to also talk to him about these dizzy spells and my blood pressure.  I know I am very worried about my taxes being lost in mail. And I called them again this morning and still not found. They are sending out an e-mail to Richmond again to see what is going on. I really don't think they care about lost mail. I also called my CPA and they are going to give it till Friday. If it doesn't move he is going to help me through the next steps to take.

  15. Mommato3boys,   Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Hope you are doing better today.

Just got an alert from USA today that a NWS storm prediction center issues rare Level 5 "high risk" alert for severe storms, incl. strong, long track tornados, for parts of AL, AR, LA, and MS.

Please everyone in those areas stay safe.  And stay alert to the news on this. I am reading these storms should start sometime this afternoon and peak sometime this evening.

  16. Jeepers I do have those sliders, I used them to move the bookcases to living room. They look so much better in there and getting them out of office has opened up the office. But it is a mess in there. Got to go through a lot of stuff.

Called the post office this afternoon as my taxes have still not been found. I don't think they are looking for them. I am calling again in the morning and will keep calling and pestering the &&& out of them.  Going to also call my CPA to let him know what is going on.

Midnightmom, the food I need to take to church is  a lot of store bought canned food.  My freezer is still slammed full of food. I need to start next week canning the meat out of there.  Some of the canned food is now almost a year old as Dh was no longer able to eat a lot of things and I had to fix things he could swallow.  So a lot of that stuff is out of date. I am going to take some of the canned veggies and make soup from it to can. I have used canned out of date canned veggies before for soup and had no problems with it. But it is way to much to use up for myself.

Granddaughter from Washington state will be here tomorrow.  And we will be going over to my other granddaughter's house for dinner and spending time with the 2 of them and my granddaughter's friend that is coming in also from Alaska. I haven't seen her in a long time. She is planning a bridal shower for her.

Annarchy. I have put tomatoes that wouldn't ripen in a brown paper bag and they ripened up that way. You could try it to see if you can get them to ripen up.

  17. Thank you for that info Jeepers. I am going to check that out when I have more time. Getting ready to go to store shortly.

euphrasyne, I have used the pressure cooker many times for cooking beans. I like to put them in the slow cooker in early morning and let the cook all day. But the much older beans don't get as tender in there.  I soak my beans overnight but did not know about the baking soda. Will be coming back to watch the video after a bit.

  18. Been working on office this morning. Got one bookcase emptied and ready to move to the living room. Need to go to store for a couple of things as granddaughter will be coming in tomorrow and staying with me. We are going to my other granddaughter's house for dinner as she has a friend coming in from Alaska that will be staying also. I haven't seen her in a long while either. So would be nice to see them all again together.

Started raining last night and early morning.  Just cloudy and not much sunshine. I hate days like this.  Ready for warmer weather and sunshine.

I am doing a bit better, but still have my days. Just trying to keep as busy as I can to keep my mind off of things.

They still have not found my tax papers yet. They still have not moved since the 8th. Wondering if they are really looking for that package.  Thinking of calling my CPA to find out what I should do. Thinking I am going to have to call to get all new 1099's etc. and start over again.  I am going to give it one more day and then call the CPA.  Since Dh's father's trust will be done with soon. I will start doing my own taxes. Hoping they won't be as complicated next year. Will see how that goes.

I am becoming overwhelmed with the amount of food in house. With it just being me, it won't get eating near as fast. One side says to take some of it to the food ministry and the other half says hold on to it as the economy is going to tank and fall off the cliff. For now I will just hold on to it and see what might happen.  At least I could help some neighbors out with the extra food.

Ann that couch and throw look wonderful. you did a great job on that. I like the colors.

WE2, I do agree that keeping busy helps to keep your mind off of things. Just wish getting this house fixed like I want it to really be, would go much easier. Moving furniture by myself is no fun. But I am getting it done.  The microwave hutch I bought is working out better than I thought it would. It is tall and has lots of room for storage.

  19. Homesteader I  your mom is ok. And the nitro will take care of her chest pain.  Hope the Angina is mild and will not cause any heart issues other than what is already there.  I agree about the hospitals and the lack of care for non corvid patients. I have been through it with DH and I know he didn't get the care he would have 3 years ago. The medical field has also killed off many of our church members as well.

It will be up to us to be sure to take care of ourselves as much as possible.  Checking our own blood pressures, and anything else we can do for ourselves medically.  My blood pressure went way up and I needed to get it down after Dh passed. I knew it was nothing more than stress. So since Dh and I both took the same B/p meds. and his was 1/2 of what I took. I took mine in the morning and his at night. Blood pressure is now back in normal range. So yes we really need to do a lot to keep fit.  Though there will be times we need to go to a doctor, after what I went through with Dh, I want to stay away from doctors as much as possible.

  20. Not sure if this is where to put this or not. Watching Fox news. Hannity.  Our income taxes are going up, death tax coming gas tax coming. They are raising taxes and putting taxes on things we are not taxed on is coming.  We are in the dog house for sure. Time to pull money and get prepared to pay the taxes while you might not have anything left to live on.  They are going to bring back the inheritance tax. So we will be taxed when we are born and taxed when we die. Not to mention we will be taxed to death in between life and death.
