  1. Kappy, the pictures didn't work. Would love to see how your garden is doing now. Went to Food Lion to pick up a couple of things and then came home to go through a few more things to put away. It has gotten to where I can't go any further till they get back here to finish the work on house. Called owner again this morning also. He ordered the shower door Thur. a week ago and said when he checked last week the door would be in either Friday or today. When I asked about it, he said the place where he ordered it was shut down for a week because they had no electricity. I really don't believe him as Wed. last week when I talked with him, He that's when he said he called them, and they told him it would be ready Fri. or today. I am betting he took on another house and has all his contractors over there getting that job started before he pulls his crap on them. I am going to have to do something soon if he doesn't have this job done by end of this month. 6 months is way too long and now just dragging his feet. So, I still am not going to pay him until he finishes up. That hopefully will get him moving when he realizes I haven't paid him anything now in 2 months. Need to get the last curtain rod up in my bedroom but just don't have any more energy today. So will either do it this evening or tomorrow morning. Wanted to get back out to finish weeding garden but rained hard yesterday and still too wet this morning and now has rained hard again a bit ago so will see how things are this evening. At least I won't have to water garden this evening.
  2. Jeepers I have 4 of them. Haven't tried them yet. Got them on a deal and plan to use in shed while I am in there going through things. Hoping they work great. I can't put window units in my windows as I have casement windows. So can't go that way.
  3. You have done great Euphrosyne. I have 2 blueberry plants that I planted from buckets this spring. They are really growing now. Had been in buckets for 5 years and stopped growing as it wasn't enough room for the root system and busted through the pots. I need to get a netting fixed up so I can just leave it attached and raise it up and down as needed. Replanting my carrots and spring onions. I have the seeds this time started on wet paper towels as They just won't do anything. These are new seeds. So should sprout. Will see what happens. It rained hard again a bit ago, so will have to wait to get out there to get seeds planted. Suppose to get up to high nineties with index in triple digits. High humidity over next couple of days going into the night. Love the pictures.
  4. Congratulations Joyfield. I know what you mean about starting from scratch. Two granddaughters that started out from scratch. One has been married going on 7 years now and another just got married last year. They are still struggling. They are the ones that stayed with me for 4 months and then with her mother for 2 months. They now have an apt. in SC as now is not the time to be buying a house. But maybe someday. Step GD in CA has been married now for over 10 years. So might be hard at first, but they will get there. It takes time, but they will get to where they want to be.
  5. It has been a good 4 years since I have been to a farmers' market other than the one DH cooked collards at. That market is a bit different than the others. We have about 4 other ones that sell fresh veggies, frozen meats, and a lot of other things. Last time I was at one, I didn't notice any type of restrictions, but I am sure there might have been some.
  6. Got 12 jars of chicken canned this morning. So that got a little more out of the freezer. As soon as I find out when contractors are coming again, hopefully tomorrow, I can get the soups made up and canned. Dogmom, congratulations on your retirement. Speaking from experience, you are retired from a job, but the work never ends at home. You just trade in one job for another one. Just don't have to leave home to do it. and it keeps going. Jeepers you are getting things together really great now. I still need to finish weeding garden. Hard rain today so no weeding. Hopefully tomorrow I can finish it.
  7. Jeepers I do agree. Euphrosyne has a very cute little girl. Betting she is full of herself and keeps mama very busy.
  8. Euphrasyne, I would love to get together sometime and us doing some canning and such. It would be fun. Right now, I am still stuck here with construction and hoping and praying they will be done by end of this month. I have been on the owner every week lately. This job started in Jan. and by contract it was supposed to be done April 17th with one week added on just in case something went wrong such as bad weather or something. Now here it is almost halfway through June. I'll message you my phone number. Would love to hear from you. Maybe we could learn stuff from each other.
  9. Euphrasyne, don't beat yourself up. You have been through two major issues that may have set you back but is only temporary. You will bounce back. You've done well for what you have been through. I know playing with baby and doing computer and phone games are fun things to do. You have a wonderful birthday tomorrow. Happy Birthday!
  10. Great info. Thank you Midnightmom. Got valance hung up at kitchen window. Didn't get to the chicken as GS decided in middle of night to cook him a meal. Don't mind him doing that but he left me a big mess this morning. Spaghetti sauce everywhere and a sink full of dirty dishes. Counters were a mess as well. He has never done that before, but I am guessing after a 13-hour shift and heavy lifting he was just still tired though he went to bed almost as soon as he got home. So, I had all that to clean up. Will be getting chicken canned hopefully this evening or as soon as I get home from Church. Need to get out and finish weeding. Seems every time I start to get back to it, something pulls me away again. And now it looks like it is going to rain. Need to get to my cookbooks so I can get all those back on shelve. That would be another box emptied. Moved GS out of master bath and into the main bathroom. We can use it now though it still needs the door, mirror and towel rack. Otherwise, it is usable. I put up a shower curtain for him. So that works for now. The old bathroom only had a shower curtain, anyway, so will do for a while till the shower door comes in. He just had to go out of my bathroom. That room is just too small for 2 people to use. DH and I used the shower in there as it were a standup shower verses a tub with shower. But as for everything else there was no room for his stuff and mine. But still that is also my bedroom and GS just needed to get out. Now he has the main bathroom and I have mine. Much better situation.
  11. Happy Birthday Euphrasyne. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
  12. euphrasyne, I have that one also. Will need to buy another one soon as I am down to about half a jar now. Might be a good idea to go head and get it while I still can. Seems the way things are going that if you see something you use but don't think you need it yet, might be a good idea to grab it as soon as you do see it. Things are a bit easier here to find but still a lot of things are hard to find.
  13. Three six nine the goose drank wine. The monkey chewed tobacco on a streetcar line. The line broke, the monkey got choked and they all went to heaven in a little rowboat. Don't ask me why that made me think of that song. It is an old one.
  14. I too am missing Mt. Rider. Hope both she and her mother are doing ok. Went out at 5:30 this morning to water garden. I think we are going to have rain tomorrow so won't water till I see if that happens. Right now, it says 40% chance of rain and storms. If not, then I will water tomorrow night. Those are some hot temp's you guys are having. We have been in high 80's so far. But the heat is coming. Most everything is now in bloom. So should start producing soon. Going on shortly and pull-out chicken to can. Been so busy unpacking what boxes I can and getting that put away. Have done about all I can do for now till they get the shoe molding put in so I can get things back in the 3 closets. Dust is awful. Having to dust down everything as I go. Got all the spices gone through and put away. Only had 3 almost empty ones that had hardened up and I couldn't break it loose, so I tossed those. But I have backups so good to go.
  15. I am going to have to find me some rhubarb in stores. I really want to try that. euphrasyne, I have never eaten rhubarb either. But granddaughter and I went to a place in Harborview, and they had slices of the pie there. I don't remember it tasting lemony though. But was very good. I am trying to remember the name of the restaurant. It has been a long while since I was there but was in those strip stores along Harborview Blvd.
  16. Those are good dates. Glad you were able to get it. I have both the morning moo milk and the powdered milk. I am saving the powdered milk for baking and such and using the morning moo for drinking. My dates are still very good so not going to use any of them now. With hard times coming on even worse, all that long term food will come in handy.
  17. Glad you made it back home Jeepers. The new house is coming along nicely. You have been a busy girl. Was going to finish weeding garden but it rained. But on the bright side. We got rain and I didn't have to water garden. Rainwater is so much better that using city water. Yes, that well is on my list. I did find out it will cost between $3000 to $5000 to get new pump and repairs. Not too bad but still a lot of money after all the money I put out for the remodel. Speaking of remodel, no one coming at all this week, and we talked a month ago about the fireplace and picked out the fireproof mat. Found out today he hasn't ordered that either. So, he is back to stretching this job out again. This job started in Jan and here it is June. Job could have been done 2 months ago if he didn't keep dragging his feet on getting things ordered. This isn't because of not being able to get things but because he waits till the last minute to order things. And the fact he is working on too many houses at once and not enough help. He needs to stop taken on more work till he gets what he has done. 5 clients are complaining now. The contractors said they have had enough of his pulling them off one job when they have started tiling or something to do another job and then don't get back to the tiling for a customer for another 2 or 3 weeks. That is what happened with my kitchen. And now the bathroom and still waiting for them to start the fireplace. I am so over this. Now he says he wants me to start using the main bathroom to make sure there are no leaking pipes. The way I see that is if I have a pipe that they replaced leaking then he needs a new plumber that can do it right. I have already checked for leaks, and I don't need to use the shower, toilet or sink to see that. This man is a joke, though the contractors are doing a great job, they have to do what the boss tells them, but they are getting tired of it. Yes, they do complain about stuff. They are tired of not being able to leave their tools here as they don't know from day to day where they will be sent. So, they get here, and it takes a good hour to get tools back out and then have to pack tools back up before leaving. This also cuts into the time they actually work on the house each day.
  18. Franksgirl, when you start crowing from too many eggs that is a lot of eggs. But that's a good thing. I have heard of water glassing eggs and watched how they did it on I think U-Tube. But I have never tried it. For one I have not found anywhere that sells fresh eggs straight from the farm. I will be taken grandson to store on his day off and will be checking the price of the eggs. I have heard they are going way up. So might go ahead and get another doz. and maybe some to freeze would be a good idea as well.
  19. Never heard of rhubarb butter before. Very interesting. I will have to try that. Dee, found out today that it may be sometime next week before the shower door comes in. The tub and shower have been in for 2 months so he should have ordered the door long before last week. Now I also found out that the fireproof mat the wood stove will be sitting on that we talked about, and I picked out a month ago, he has not ordered that yet either. He just does what he wants and when I call him down on it, he puts it like no we never talked about that. And of course, I just let him know that I have it all in text and the picture of the mat as well from a month ago. No comment. The man is losing it. He can't remember one day to the next on what has been decided.
  20. I also copied that one down. I have a few boxes of the stove top stuffing. Need to get stuff together and get it jarred up for longer term. Just can't get to anything right now. Going to try to get all the spices put away tomorrow. I have a lot of those. So, I need to go through them. I am sure some might be rather old by now. I almost forgot. On the powdered milk you can add a little vanilla extract to it, and it makes it taste much better. Jeepers you are right about the Morning Moo brand milk. That is the best.
  21. Virginia, I have termite treatment done on my house several years ago and they come out to check under house once a year and around house and sheds as well. The type of treatment they do is drill a small hole in brick and put something inside that. So, I have never had a problem with planting anything around my house in flower beds. Nothing is near the brick in the pictures I posted above, because of the roof line. So, depending on how your house was treated and rather if they spray for termites or do it the way mine was done. If they spray something around the house, then I would be more inclined not to plant eatable foods around it. I understand now they have a newer method of treating and that is something they push into ground all around the house near the base of the house. My next-door neighbor gets that one, but I don't know anything about that one.
  22. Forging is something I need to get back into learning. I have a couple of books on it my granddaughter from Washington State sent me. She is very much into it. Just haven't had the time over the past couple of years to learn a lot of new things. Hopefully things will calm down soon.
  23. I have never waxed cheese before but is something that would be good to know how to do. Even cheese is getting expensive now. I do freeze some cheese but not a lot.
