  2. Ambergris: I think they put it in his file, but I will double check to make sure. Mt_Rider: LOL little guy still talks about the puppies and how he is going to get 1. Lovinit: Slowing down a bit but just found out another project will start in a few weeks,at least I still have a job. Papa sends back a Hi to all of you and still wants to go back next time.
  3. It has been a while for me to have any down time, I have been on special projects since Oct and running 60 hour weeks with a 1.5 hour commute. Just to let you know papa is doing ok. The headaches were caused by the vender of the medication. They put him back on his original vender for that pill and everything cleared up. Hard part was getting them to listen to our complaints. It took a PA to set the medication as a no substitution.
  4. Had a 2 yo bull Angus cross we were going to sell, he charged and tried pinning DH against a pipe gate. He is now in the freezer. Between a friend and his wife, DD and her BF, DH and me we were able to field process him like a really big deer and hang him from the front loader on the tractor. We all now have full freezers.
  5. We have an old hand crank meat grinder but want to know what all of you would recommend for an electric meat grinder and why you would recommend it?

  7. LOL I had week in the barrel for each of the kids. They rotated thru Cooking, cleaning, budget/meal planning every month. I home schooled and the grocery store was math class. I think it was the best thing that help them learn how to take care of themselves. DS does all the cooking as he is so much better at it than his wife.
  8. Sweet oil works for ears it helps soften ear wax so it drains out also helps with infections. Don't pay extra for sweet oil at the store it is just olive oil.
  9. Well pull up a chair and have some warm tea, as it is a mite nippy here at this time. We often refer to this site as our online home so welcome home.
  10. yep snoops has it as false, it was a satire published on The Spoof! web site http://www.snopes.com/politics/satire/leatherprotest.asp
  11. thank you for all the wishes. I had a great day and Daughter made my favorate cassarol (mac & cheese with tuna and green peas).
  12. For those that were not at the gather and for those that were I had to leave way early as something was wrong with my Dad. He was getting worried about some headaches and blurred vision he had been having. We checked with the Pharmacy and they said the med he was taking were correct as prescribed by the Doctor. We were finally able to get him back in to see the doctor today and the Doc agreed something may be wrong with the increase they did on his medication before the trip, he stopped taking them on the way back home and the headaches went away, but intermittently he still has bouts of blurred vision so they are going to run an MRI on him tomorrow. He sends a big Hi to all his new friends and states he would like to go back on the next gather to see everyone again. So those so inclined please keep him in your prayers.
  13. Bumping this again as it was asked about at the gathering. Posted 29 December 2008 - 01:42 AM http://www.choosingvoluntarysimplicity.com/mock-maple-syrup/ We had this posted a long time back but could not find it on a search. Found it on another site so I thought I would put it here for all of us. Mock Maple syrup Peel 6 medium sized potatoes. Boil these uncovered in 2 cups of water until but one cup of fluid remains. Remove the vegetables for use any way you want. Stirring the liquid until it reaches the boiling point again, slowly add one cup of white sugar and one cup of brown sugar. Once this has entirely dissolved, take the pan off the heat to cool slowly. … But bottle the syrup and tuck it away in a cabinet for several days to mature. Taste it again at the end of that time and see if you are not pleasantly amazed. We were still amazed that morning. The flavor was almost beyond comparison, a phantom bouquet that haunted our taste buds; something to be savored very deliberately and lingeringly. It tasted to us now exactly like prime Maple syrup, and we’d both been reared in Maple syrup country. –from the book Wilderness Wife, by Bradford and Vena Angier Note do not add any salt to the water when cooking the potatoes. Also allow the water to cool then pore off the 1-cup of water after it has cooled and any little pieces of potato have settled it will make for clearer syrup. Add the sugar reheat to dissolve the sugar. Then bottle it in a sterilized jar and seal. The longer this sets the better the flavor. Leave it sit at least 5 days. Lele aka Ma & Pa Steel

  16. Yeah I can come.... I have never been able to make one of these events, but this year I have been able to schedule it to be off from work. DH and I work in the same shop and cannot take time off together so it will be just me.
