  1. I'm not a big fan of wine salt, but I can tell you if was extremely sticky, the wine you used may have been too sweet. Go with a less sweet wine next time to reduce stickiness if you really want wine salt. Also, be sure to reduce a whole bottle to roughly 1T. That is a long time to reduce, but it is necessary. Your wine cabinet would probably lend well to making sauces and reductions for regular dishes.
  2. This week, I've been cleaning, chasing toddler, and reading. Not much else done. I did clean out the fridge an old stuff and then I cleaned out the main pantry--the one that holds the daily stuff. (my use by dates are not what is on the package, so this was a serious clean out with occasional taste testing or smelling) I threw away 3 packages of pretzels. Each package was a different type and we ate them voraciously during the pandemic when everyone was home. No one has touched them in YEARS. It was a waste, but freeing up the space from the now stale pretzels was better than keeping them. It is a lesson. Don't stock up thinking 'this is it we will eat it graciously.' Tastes change, people change, and foods go bad. If you cannot eat it or trade it, don't stock it longer than you can eat it. Shedding the unnecessary and unusable is a blessing. That is truly hard thought for me, but I am trying to get it into rotation. I am a keep it till forever until it is useful person, but sometimes keeping it forever is more energy than it is worth. #life lessons My garage needs this attention, but I do not have the energy yet, Neiborhood garage sale is this weekend, but I will wait for the fall garage sale. I do not have the energy to deal with it now.
  3. The crust will be less soggy if you freeze it topping less. I usually either store unrisen dough or else a slightly prebaked shell that is flash frozen. Add some toppings to freezer bags, put them all in a bigger bag, and it can be assembled and cooked from frozen with less than 5m prep work. If you have slightly prebaked them, there is no reason to thaw it and it can be cooked from frozen after assembly.

  6. Its a day. 10 year anniversary for DH and me. DD15 will be 16 next week and her computer came yesterday. I got my husband's old monitors and she got my smaller monitor (it was smaller than my big one, but bigger than my husband's old two) to go with her new desktop. I'm up to 3 monitors now. DD3 sat on the couch in my bedroom from 7 till 10 munching on some breakfast and watching Brain Candy TV. I got up, went to the bathroom, was gone less than 5 minutes. Well she got into some things she should not have been able to reach and then proceeded to walk around the house with stuff traumatizing DD15.
  7. Easter luncheon was Ham, scalloped potatoes, peas, deviled eggs, banana creme pie. This week is spring break. I'm going to cook a whole chicken tomorrow and the rest of the week will be various leftover meals made with cooked ham or chicken.

  9. If you guess what you will do and that guess is close.. your budget will be more accurate. The more you do this, the more accurate you will get. I've guessed for the next 100 years and I refine it yearly. Each year it becomes closer. No lies. Make a budget and adjust for inflation and raises and whatever you invest in. Adjust it.
  10. My taxes have been done and received. I usually advise taking the most amount of contributions available to still get a bit back and then doing them on 2/1 after all paperwork is in house. I see no point in waiting every year, so I do them early. I do them myself because math and logic is not that bad. Sometimes it seems convoluted, but just follow the logic and math and everything turns out fine. If you cant, hire an accountant to do it early for you. If you pre-plan what the next year will be it is a non=issue. I say this for at least 20 years of doing my own. preplan and then it is super easy.
  11. I'm allergic to fish and shellfish so I can confirm the phobia. I want to live. DH goes out to lunch with his buddies to fulfil his desire then comes home and brushes his teeth before talking to me.
  12. We love saur kraut. My maternal grandfather used to grow cabbage and then burry it in the back yard to make saur kraut. It was the best. I've sense seen a lot of ways to make it, but none beats his in the taste test. I grew up eating it most weeks. Eating it now makes me sad because I remember his. He and mamaw often served saur kraut and cheese weenies. It was a weekly thing. I lived with them oft an on. My childhood in one swoop is suar kraut and cheese weenies and the garden. My great aunt just died so it is so close right now.
  13. 10 Year anniversary is coming up next month, so DH is doing all sorts of smallish things. We went out for the 2nd time this week to the comedy club and saw Tim Meadows from SNL, then some live music at the bar we like. We are old, so he got himself a saw and I need to wrap a really fancy dehydrator he bought. I haven't opened it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'm going to set it where my current toaster is. The main selling points for me was that it was a toaster, air fryer, convection oven, dehydrator, and dough proofer. But it does more. It had really good reviews and It frees up a lot of my counter space while giving me another baking option for holidays.   14. Central and south Arizona don't do daylight savings, nor does Hawaii. I used to work for a trucking company in worker's compensation so I had to know these things. People call at all hours of the day.
  15. I did...nothing. I read and taught the baby all day. We learned new words and then I made Thai steak lettuce wraps for dinner. They were well received by all the teens/adults. The baby ate one piece of lettuce, but otherwise had chicken nuggets because she is super tall and skinny for her age and I want her to grow. I like reading, though the content sometimes annoys me when it is .....not accurate factually or is disjointed timewise. I notice all of the inaccuracies.
  16. Everybody has a thing. I'm terrible with people, horrid at cleaning, but I'm better than decedent with math, a very fast reader, and excellent with recipes. Everyone has a thing. The key is to know and own your things.

  18. Dh took today off work to deal with kid and washer/dryer delivery. I am so grateful that he is who he is. I needed it and I didn't even know until he did it. I am lazing about reading and feeding kid.
  19. It was my great aunt and DH brought in a whole thing about aunt vs great aunt. She was the closest person to me in my family. We were basically the same. I miss her more than my mom. She was that to me. My husband is distracted, bit I am just sad. I will get over it, but I am still sad. Everything is temporary. Deal and live.
  20. Baby up way past midnight. Mom called before I got out of bed. Aunt died. Have to finish cleaning so washer/dryer can be delivered tomorrow. It is a day.
  21. Our old ones are LG. We have had issues so DH is currently NO LG anything. LG = NO. some things are not worth arguing over. this is one.
  22. Got up, loaded up the washer and...nothing. No juice, its dead and not worth fixing. DH internet shopped around, we went to Lowes and I bought a new washer and dryer. Ours are about 11 years old and needed replacing anyway. It was expected, but annoying. New ones are delivered Wednesday are Samsung and black/greyish colored. My criteria was that it had to be big enough to do a king comforter, top loader, agitator, and dial over buttons. DH's criteria was NO LG. We did lunch at Longhorn afterwards. We are going to have to pull out the current countertop that goes over the front loader washer/dryer and make it 1/3 the size with a shelf between them. Also bought too many plants (mostly bulbs), so tomorrow will be a busy day. Everyone is planning wardrobes for tomorrow till Wednesday. If there is only 1 load, I will handwash it and hang it to dry on my drying rack. If there is more than 1 load, I'm going to the laundry mat. ungh. Hopefully not. Is it sad that I'd rather do a tub of laundry? I cannot decide.
  23. bake it in a narrow pan to get more height. You can make your pan thinner by using aluminum foil to narrow the width. Many of the times you see tall loves it is because of a narrow pan.
  24. Long morning. A vehicle crash in our area caused the power to go out from 730am to just a few minutes ago. I could have been productive and cleaned, but none of my lights or power tools worked and I was tired and lazy, so we sat near a window and read all morning instead. I did use my solar powered phone bank to recharge my phone.
