  1. This is quite an interesting thread. Fortunately I have made a friend here who is a prepper. Last week I was at her home and she asked if I'd like to see her storage and she also showed her 72 hour kits, etc. We talked for over an hour about prepping, why we do, what keeps others from not doing it, etc. It was such a relief to know someone in real life understands and we can share ideas. She is going to help me with canning dry foods in #10 cans, like beans, rice, etc. She is also in charge of her church's emergency preparedness and food storage classes at the moment (LDS) & all mem
  2. Hello and good morning! I'm on my second cup of coffee and I still am not fully awake. I've been up since 5:45 and enjoying the quiet. Dh just left for work, has to drive an hour to the main office for a meeting. A friend is dropping off her two boys later this morning so she can go on a couple of errands. I'll be Take care and have a great day!
  3. Good to see you again and glad to hear everythings fine and you're "lovin' life"! Have fun on your next trip!
  4. Great! No need to wait 'til the last minute, right? Christmas in July
  5. So much to agree on here, I agree with Unikemom's post wholeheartedly! I'm also more concerned with our economy and UN involvement, etc. (the man-made disasters as Kaye said!) Magpie's response is right on too! Work to improve your immune system, etc. I wonder about the sincerity of the "pros" too; more and more we're hearing "We're from the government and we're here to help" type talk and there are far too many people willing to let them "help". Too many people just want to keep their rose-colored glasses on and believe things like a pandemic can't possibly happen (ignoran
  6. I hadn't thought about it really but... We do have tv, land line and broadband and get a discount because DH is in telecommunications and works for the company we get our service from That's all I can think of for now.... The only thing we don't scrimp on are things that make our home more secure and well-insulated (except for our cheapo screen door we just bought).
  7. This is a great thread! Since we moved to WY and have to drive 60 miles round trip to a grocery store we've been attempting to buy enough grocreies to last at least 3-4 weeks, with the exception of milk, eggs and bread (yeah, I know I need to make my own bread and get my own chickens but I don't have room for a cow, lol). Before, when we lived in NC, we never considered shopping for more than two weeks at a time, to coincide with paydays of course. The only time we'd rush to the store was if a hurricane warning, or snow//ice warning was in effect. Shame, shame, shame! As for serious
  8. Good morning ladies, How about joining me in a cup of coffee and perhaps a banana nut muffin (or chocolate!)? It is quiet right now, everyone is still sleeping. I am exhausted but woke up a little after 5 and couldn't go back to sleep. We had a huge day of shopping in Billings, MT yesterday (love the no tax thing on everything!). We left home around 6:45 a.m. and got back home around 9:45 p.m. We took a huge pile of aluminum and a chunk of copper to the recycling center - got $215 for all that :-) Went shoe shopping for the boys, dh and boys had haircuts, went to home depot for so

  10. Oh my goodness Darlene! Good luck with that - I have no experience either so no help to offer but hope it's not too bad for you or the chicks. Maybe you should ask one of your nosy neighbors to come and help! Hope it's not too hard on you (or the cleaning lady!)
  11. (((Phatkat & Family)))) I'm sorry you're having to go through this but I do pray that it's a good thing for your mom! Bless her heart! Take care of you too!
