Preparing for BF on a local level

I am seeing more and more stories like these. It seems to me that if the Bird Flu ever hits us most of the action in coping with it will be done on a local level. I think this is very encouraging. I think after Katrina people see that they need to rally together to take care of themselves instead of looking to the federal government to bail them out.

I agree that preparing will have to be local efforts. The problem will be if your local PTB plan poorly your community is outa luck. Some areas are wealthier than others, some areas have officials who take this seriously and some dont. Im more inclined to believe that were going to have to take the bull by the horns ourselves and bring this down to a neighborhood by neighborhood effort.

If we just look to our own backyards and work to prepare our neighborhoods as best we can I believe we can make more of a difference than any government agency. Im going to have a picnic for my neighbors and bring up BF and ways we can look out for each other.

I agree, that prep on a neighborhood level makes the most sense. I checked our county's website, and found zilch. My DH had an appointment with his MD recently, and the doc didn't know of any plans the hospital has made. Neither of those sound very encouraging, and this repeated statement of "you're on your own" is not at all encouraging. But that is the great thing about this site, we encourage one another.
