Shandy
How bout some non-drinking uses, Westie? These are great, but for those of us who don't drink, we need a way to use up the gallons of alchol. I suppose we can give it to intruders to get them so drunk they will leave us alone. Trade it for safety kind of thing? LOL Link to comment
ol'momma
Weeelll, Shurleen...I make fruit liquer every year, and inevitably it gets basted onto a really rich and sinful buttercake for Christmas dessert. Or drizzled on a little ice cream... If you put it on the cake when it's still hot from the oven, the booze goes bye-bye and the flavor stays. 'Bet westies Coffee liquer would be YUMMMmmmmmmY in tarimisu! Link to comment
ArmyOfFive4God
Alcohol is actually a VERY good bartering item to have! Link to comment
Shandy
WHAT is tarimisu?!!! Isn't that what...oh, what's his name?!...said to Tom Hanks when they were talking at lunch before Tom Hanks was getting ready to date? "What is "tiramisu"?" "You'll find out." "Well, what is it?" "You'll see!" "Some woman is gonna want me to do it to her and I'm not gonna know what it is!" WHAT IS IT? I've wondered for years now! I thought it was something not nice from the way the conversation went. But it's food? Link to comment
Cricket
Oh, this thread had me almost choking on my morning coffee with laughter! Shurleen, good thing your shy lil self wasn't with me yesterday. I walked into a liquor store and came out with a big heavy sack o' booze! I go once a year and get coffee liquor and irish cream, some brandy and schnapps. This time I also got a big 1.75 liter bottle of cheap vodka. I told DH I was going to use it to make tinctures. He just looked at me funny but didn't argue, LOL. Wise man. BTW, Tiramisu is a very yummy dessert. Link to comment

westbrook
Homemade Apple Liqueur (Meilach) Recipe From Classic Liqueurs, by Cheryl Long and Heather Kibbey: * 2 1/2 pounds apples * 2 cups vodka * 2 cups brandy * 1 1/2 cups sugar * 3/4 cup water Cut apples into wedges, put in jar. Pour vodka and brandy over apples. Cap and age in a cool place for one month. Strain and filter. Combine sugar and water, boil, cool. Combine liqueur and syrup into aging container, age for a month. Strain as needed. Variation: Spiced apple. Add two 3" cinnamon sticks, 10 whole cloves, remove spices when filtering/squeezing apples. I've never used this one either (I got hung up on the Meilach recipe, and then got distracted to other fruits), but it's certainly simpler than the Meilach recipes. Units of measurement (unless stated otherwise) 1 cup = 8 ounces = 236ml 1 quart = 32 ounces = 944ml 1 tbsp (tablespoon) = 1/2 ounce = 15ml 1 fifth = 25.6 ounces = 750ml 1 tsp (teaspoon) = 1/6 ounce = 5ml 1 pint = 16 ounces = 472ml Link to comment
westbrook
Homemade Apricot (Greenslad) Recipe Originally from a book called "Liqueurs for All Seasons," mailed to my by correspondent Dave Greenslad: * 16 oz fresh apricots * 10 oz sugar * 1/2 in. cinnamon stick * 14 oz 95 proof alcohol macerate [steep] for 3 weeks, bottle and age for 7 months. In all cases I substituted 100 proof vodka for the 95 proof alcohol. I also macerated these mixtures in 32 oz canning jars with very limited airspace. After the macerated time period, I strained once or twice with coffee filters, bottled, corked, and sealed with wax. I sterilized my bottles (boiling water) and corks (potassium bisulphite) and thought I was being quite careful in this fun activity. Link to comment
westbrook
Homemade Banana (Crosby and Kenny) Recipe Miscellaneous Untried Recipes This is from a collection of recipes from books I own, but which I haven't myself tried yet. However, you can have faith that at least the authors themselves have tried them, so they're not deadly or anything. From Kitchen Cordials by Nancy Crosby and Sue Kenny: * 1 medium-sized ripe banana * 1 cup sugar dissolved in * 1/2 cup water * 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract * 3 cups 80-proof vodka Peel and mash the banana and place in a glass jar. Add vodka, making sure the banana is completely covered. Close jar tightly and let steep for 8 days. Pour through strainer to remove most of the banana and then add sugar syrup. Strain and filter solution to remove remaining haze. Add vanilla and stir. Link to comment

Girl Next Door
This looks like a good place to make my first post. I would like to recommend Tito's handmade vodka due to it's cost and being the smoothest, most high quality vodka I have ever had. It's a great bang for the buck. I have been lurking on this site and I am having so much fun I posted the address on a pet stylist website. Don't be surprised to see more pet stylists in the future! http://www.titos-vodka.com/ Link to comment
