Zophiel....so do we hope that you get the house.... :( but then you won't be there....

Or that you DON'T get the house and.....

We'd love to meet you but a house IS a big deal. Mebbe it will just be delayed??? And you can do both?

Lisa in Georgia....since you are so close, it would be great for you to be able to come. As to kids...some brought teens to the last one but....I'm not the one to answer on that question.

Stephanie.....yooooooohoooooooo  Do I get to meet you this year?????????

MtRider [....already packing.... :happy0203: ]

Merciful Heavnes!! A chance to meet my friend MtRider! :hug3:

Plus watch Darlene Sashay around doing her very best Southern Belle imitation? :curtsey:

And what about the music? MomM? Is that on the menu? :band:

WormGuy? Grilling something scrumptious? :feedme:

I'm sorry that I'm just checking in. The older the kids get, the more activities they are involved in, the busier our lives seem to be. It's all good, but they are MANY and I am ONE! :)

I don't know exactly what our travel plans will be, I'll likely only be able to spend one night. Darlene, are most of the activities going to be on Sat you think?

If anyone is interested, I'll be bringing my crochets and knitting stuff. I have been making balls of 'rags' from clothing we were disposing of and can demonstrate how to do the Rag Rugs, which can be a wonderful 'green' and practical project. Or, I can show anyone who is interested in how to crochet dishclothes for instance. I am VERY much the student, but will gladnly share what I have learned. :gathering:

DH can bring his music - do you all want just the guitar, or also include the Irish drum and /or fiddle, too?

Does anyone want to learn the basics of quilting? I can bring my sewing machine, etc.

Stephanie, I would like to learn how to crochet dishcloths, thank you.

We plan on coming Friday a.m. and leaving Sunday sometime.

The excitement is building!

As for ME! The more music the better! Please tell your dh not to be too disappointed with my LACK of effort with my guitar. My heart is in the right place....but time oh my...you know!

And I'd be VERY interested in some Quilting Basics. I actullay bought a half decent machine a couple of months ago.

Should I bring the dutch oven and do another DUMP CAKE?

Darlene, will I have a place to put my cot near a plug for my CPAP? I can bring extension cords if necessary.

Link to comment

Stephanie! I would love to learn to crochet--left handed-- so if you think you can teach me backwards... I can't seem to turn corners with any success. I would love to learn to quilt but have no experience at all in that area. I don't really have anything to bring or do but I can clean! And take photos. I am so looking forward to this!

Stephanie, Please bring the dutch oven!

I'll have to bring an extension cord also, for my CPAP.

DH says to be sure to bring your guitar.

Beginning quilting is just for you, miki and all those who are learning to sew. It's so much fun!

Hi y’all…….. Darlene has been outta town but I caught her on the phone just now. I read her the recent posts in this thread. She's hoping to get time tonite or tomorrow to really sit down with this thread. But for now, she says to tell you…….

Lisa in Georgia – DEFINITELY COME! If you need to bring some kiddos, we’ll deal with whatever they need. :grouphug: Not a problem! [some of us can play Grma for a weekend! :) ]

Stephanie/MomM …..yes, she’s keeping your need for plugging in for the night in mind as she assigns quarters. Are your boys coming with you this year, Steph? [MtR asking....…I heard so much about them that it would be fun to meet them too.]

ABOUT THE MENU: Darlene needs to know if anyone has any serious FOOD ALLERGIES [ahem, not…. “I’m allergic to turnips” :laughkick: ….hey, I LIKE turnips! ] Really though, we know allergies can be deadly or mighty durned uncomfortable for some folks. So send her a PM or post here. She’s doing some basic menu planning. I heard about home-raised, home-smoked BACON. :yum3: How will we ever go back to Hormel??? :0327:

--Check out the RURR [are you really ready] forum for the latest Without Warning scenario -- inspired by all of us traveling to this gathering. What Just In Case things will you bring/do ....cuz what if the hooey hits the fan while we're all with Darlene?

:band: PAR-TEEEEEE!

:happy0203:

MtRider [you know.....it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more fun to be packing to attend this than last time when I just came on to read about y'all having such a good gathering. :bounce: ]

I think I'm coming (lookin' good!). I'm looking forward to it; it just depends on how my Mom is. I don't have any allergies, but I'm trying to lose 30 lbs so I'm on the Primal Diet.

I eat meat. And chocolate.

How far from Cherry Log/Blue Ridge area are you?

My parents live there and I may be able to drop a kid or two there. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find sitters when you have 10 young'ns still at home.

I probably will only have bring a couple ages 10 to 12 that love the outdoors (and are fairly well behaved).

Guess my parents and other friends here will be amazed that I am going to learn more Survival skills at "Camp Darlene". Oh well they already think I am crazy with my milk cow and everything else I do.

I need to get away, please add me to the list.

If I'm able to make it, I've a bit of a soy allergy. Not too bad right now (I can use bacon bits, one bowl of miso a year), but the doc said if I eat too much where soy is the main ingredient, the allergy will eventually grow from giving my 30 yr old self all the glorious symptoms of menopause  to full blow hospital visit. :o So, if I'm able to make it (looking more likely than not, at this point), if we could avoid TVP, tofu, or other soy-based foods, or at least have an alternative. Or at least keep to a minimum . . . /hates to be troublesome

:cele: Good! Adding LisaInGeorgia to the list! Welcome to Camp Darlene.....where Darlene is banning

:animal0017:SPIDERS AND SNAKES this year......as well as brussels sprouts and keeping a lid on soy. :)

A cautious [and possibly lamentable ?] hooray for Zophiel? I'd hate to think you didn't get your house tho. :(

I have a dietary caution on tomato/corn/mebbe chicken......note enough for drastic action like epi pen or hospital but might get a nasty tummy ache if I get too much. I can usually work around it easily.....even at church pot lucks.

MtRider [...making my list; checking it twice....gotta find out what's fittin' in the suitcase...or not! ]

Sorry everyone...I was out of town...I drove down to Texas to take Rita some goats, then out west to visit with Annarchy and some other friends. 4300 miles in 6 days kind of exhausted me lol...

Anyway, to catch up with the thread...

Lisa in GA, I'm up in the Blue Ridge area so that would be very easy for you to access! Like Mt Rider said, the important thing is that you be able to come...we'll help with any children. I have a small farm so I know I could keep them busy with one thing or another...

Gunplumber will be our firearms specialist and trainer. He has extensive experience in this area (military background, gunsmithing career, numerous tactical courses) and is very gifted in taking something that can feel complicated or overwhelming (firearms) and presenting it in a simple manner. I've met him in person and he's really a great person and I have been in awe as I've watched him break down my own rifles, refinish them, and teaching me things that others said couldn't be done. Here's his bio (if anyone is interested) that is located on his site: http://arizonaresponsesystems.com/notes/no...o/pagebio.shtml

I know that I have several friends here locally that will be coming to our get together, to not only to chat about the things we do, but to also take part in the training that Gunplumber will be doing. I need to know however, what specifically y'all are hoping to learn so that he can organize some classes that will meet the needs that everyone has. Some thoughts off the top of my head would be 'beginning firearms' and then some teaching on practical self defense, over and above learning how to shoot, like tactics, preplanning, etc.

Anyway, I only have 3 weeks left to finish up some of my projects around here lol so I've informed everyone that we are going to suspend 'country style' work ethics and go into 'city girl mode'. The guys I have that have been helping me have been dazed as I've ramped them up to my speed lolol.

I don't feel bad because the way I look at it is, what's so bad about a good nights sleep after a long, hard day?

lolol

I can't wait for everyone to get here!

Good morning, everyone. Darlene, I want to thank you for the beautiful goats that you brought me. Andrew and I tried so very hard to save that little girl, but after 3 days, she was getting steadily worse, so we had to put her down....broke my heart, the other 3, however are doing great and the brown little girl is like a little puppy, following me around with her tail wagging, so adorable.

It was so awesome to finally meet you, even if only for a little bit!

Rita

Okay, well, I still don't know if I'll be getting the house or not. But, apparently the (currently owning) bank is collecting proposals for getting the work done, which was a pleasant surprise to find out. This work needs to be finished and they need to have a mold-free certification before my bank will agree to finance, which has to happen before settlement, etc. . . So, even if things go well, I'm thinking it's much less likely that I'll be moving until at least mid-October.

Which means I can come! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! :darlenedance: Road Trip!

(I'm putting in for leave today, so I should get down to GA sometime Friday afternoon/ evening. Should be pretty much a straight shot down I95, at least till GA, right?). I'll be driving from Maryland, so if anyone would like to hitch a ride with me, lemmee know.

Is Stephanie coming...thot her last word was YES???? MacKinnon for part of the time? Zophiel???? Are you still coming?

Ambergis, Granny, Pauline and the others who had hoped to come.....I wish you could find a way!!!!!

And Darlene? You did not invite snakes......right??????? :0327:

MtRider [ :bounce: ...haven't been off my Mt. in four years... ]

You want snakes?? Come here! I've got ummmmm!

Yeeeeech! Nope, Mom11. Don't want ANY! Realllllllllllly don't want the kind that are rude enough to bite you with poison. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech! How EVER do y'all live with that kind of tension.....ever lurking....ever watchful....never knowing when they might pop out from anywhere...... MtRider's toes are curling!

 I'll take my "lions and coyotes and bears....oh my!" any day.

MtRider [....it's gonna be October. Too cold for snakes in the Mts of Georgia. Yup, and I don't wanna hear any different! ;) ]

Checking in once again...tardy!! could someone please turn down the heat and the rotation speed of the earth!!! Mercy!!

Okay...so yes...I'm still coming. However the plans have changed a bit. We were having a serious conflict schedule that made me think we might not make it at all!!! :o

But, that has been resolved...partially. I'll only be able to bring one of my boys with me, Jesse who is 14. Josiah will be needed here so that Henry can handle the schedule conflict and allow me to go. I had hope to bring Josiah and Jeremiah as well, but it just isn't working out.:(

On the good news station.....Henry has asked for Friday off so I'll be able to stay two nights (hopefully). :)

As to my interest in the firearms instruction....pretty much a blank slate here. OMB, Louis, Trip and Vic have been extremely helpful with me getting my feet wet. But, I still have so much to learn... I'll have my teen son with me and so, I'll be very eager to hear safety reinforced (for his sake and mine as well). Also, I still don't have a good grasp of Maintenance!! you know, cleaning and etc...

Naturally, target practice is fun. :D

Well....I'm off again!

So excited to hear MrMomM's musical delights and eager to learn the basics of quilting as well. Seeing some friends again and meeting friends in person for the first time whom I have loved for a long time!!!

:hug3:
