fungus on fruit tree's??

Recommended Posts

when we bought our property i was excited to see 2 apple tree's. Now that spring is here i was thrilled to find a big raspberry patch, a cherry tree and two pear tree's. I was looking at the pear tree's today (or what i think is pear tree's) and noticed what looked like a fungus on it. The tree I was looking at had another tree next to it, but it was dead so we cut it down. the dead tree seemed to have an ugly black fungus on it. i assumed that is what had killed it. I did look at the tree next to it, the one i was looking at today, and it looked fine. Upon closer inspection, i fear this tree has it to.

I have to go quick, b4 i loose my internet connection again, any advice would be great!

This is a pic of a branch that is still on the tree. It looks like leaves are growing out of whatever it is. for some reason my camera phone takes pictures sideways,, not sure why (edit to add this)
