They are quite popular in different areas of Europe. The homes are designed so that each room can be closed off from all others. Every room had a door and most rooms aren't heated unless friends come over, or it's time to go to bed. Heat is cheap here.

Great idea. I saved it. :hapydancsmil:

I'm going to get a couple of pots and try it myself. Threading a bolt with some washers and nuts isn't that complicated, at least it doesn't seem to be so to me but I'm going to try it to know for sure.

I have a laser thermometer so I'm curious how hot it will get with different size candles. I just started making candles myself so it would be an easy thing to replenish.

You'll find them more of a "foot warmer" than a real heater. They only heat up a small amount of space. Probably could use some sort of heat reflective panel to help? But...ours were small pots :-)

In the comments section of this article, many folks are mentioning intent to use these overnight to warm a room. :o Please exercise extreme caution with open flame. It's generally not recommended to leave open flame unattended...especially near a bedside. A better idea for bedtime is to warm rocks [another heat mass] in oven or near furnace/stove. Wrap in cloth and take to bed with you. Like the old timers used to do.

Just wanted to mention that 'overnight' would be a risky application for these devices.
