WHATCHA DOING TODAY?

Recommended Posts

OK, this is an order:  Everyone that is sick is to get well now.  Prayers still going your way.    Being sick is no fun.

DH went with me to grocery store to pick up his RX. He walked around store checking prices and was not happy.  I kept telling him they were going up.  Helman's mayo. 4.99 for 30 oz. That is crazy.  Wonder if I could make mayo.  Though when he got home he was worn out. So now he is in his recliner sound asleep.  I am just going to let him sleep. Getting out like that tells me just how weak he is now.

I got all the clothes washed and started working on garage. I have two very large shelving units with chest freezer sitting in between them under window.  I have one with 3 shelves cleaned off and now working on the bottom shelf of cleaning supplies. I am going to move all the cleaning supplies to top shelf. and use bottom shelf for my water supply.  I have 8- 5 gal. water containers I want to fill up and put the stuff in so they will last 5 years. Then I also have 6 boxes of the 50 year cans of water. That gives us 144 cans of long term water.  I will get anyone the site I order it from that wants it.  Got applances in trunk of car to take to good will down the street.  That alone has given me a lot of free space.  I think this garage is going to be a lot of work and time consuming trying to do it by my self.  But it is what it is.  When I am done I hope to be able to get to what I need as well as see what I need before going to store. And yes, buying from Sam's club and B.J.'s wholesale club in doubles adds up. But less trips to store that way.  I think right now I have 4 or 5 large bottles of dawn dish detergent as well as dishwasher detergent.  I like to take advantage of when you buy one item you get the other one free. Saves some money and B.J.s takes manufacturer coupons with their coupons.  So if they have a 2.00 off and I have one for 1.00 off they will take 3.00 off. Also if the product has more than one of the items in it they will take 2 or 3 manufacture coupons.  So it really keeps my cleaning supplies stocked for cheaper than the grocery stores.

Saw mu internist today - big hugs all around.  I am flattered that she thinks of us as friends as much as patients.  She had a lot of lab tests run, and had ordered a cat scan of my ascending thoraxic aneurism to see if it was a risk factor for upcoming surgery....not at all, it turned out, it has not changed or grown.  However she ordered an ultrasound of my thyroid, thinks I may have a small goiter.  Hmmm, I wonder if that explains these blasted hot flashes I get constantly.  However she says I can wait until I get thru my back surgery to look into that.  Meanwhile I will ramp up my iodine intake, cant hurt.  She also upped my vitamin D suplementation. No objection to that....new research has upped the max intake level quite a bit and also discovered more things that vit D is "good for"    Rainy here, a low front is sitting atop us and 'watering' us for several days now.  The spring frogs are singing loudly at night, they seem to think it is spring...Good day for napping but instead I sewed some "Please do not pet me, Im working" patches on M's new service dog vest.  One of our dogs, Dodger, (the shepherd-malinois mix) just got certified as a service dog.  He is calm, empathetic, and smart....good lookin, too!  He trained very easily and quickly.  When M gets riled/excited/upset he is right there to help.  He is also excellent for mobility issues.  So I sewed those patches on with pride for our boy!  Mary will take him to the VA for her appointment tomorrow and introduce him to her doc.  Oh yes, I almost forgot....we get to drive to Athens (2 hrs away) for another pre-op briefing this one for the hospital the day after tomorrow (not a lot of lead time there...lol.)

Kappy that is great news. Glad your doctor is working out. Just wish we could find a good one around here again.  Praying  for your surgery to go well and for a speedy recovery.

Just stopped working in garage. It is 9 pm and I am tired. The cement dust is on everything and I have to wipe everything down. But it is getting there.  Found 2 bottles of lamp oil that was not suppose to be on that shelving unit. But thats good because now I have 2 more bottles to add to my supply of oil.

Think I am going to have to wake DH up to go to bed. He is in his chair fast asleep again.  Seems he does a lot of that lately.  Hope we can get to the bottom of all this soon. Next test is on the 17th and then back to specialist for results.

Hung more laundry on the porch.  Hubby got to the homestead...and the sump pump had not kicked on, so the basement/cellar had a lot of water!  :( This is the 2nd time it's happened this winter so there's probably a new pump on the agenda...:gaah: He did get all the boxes/jars moved out of the one shelving unit that was keeping him from going ahead with raising the floor in the basement/putting new joist in.  Guess what...he estimated that we have about 1200 jars of food...just from that one shelving unit.  We've been enjoying our 3 month pantry eating (to save money that we paid out in RE taxes) and plan to do some more.  Did break our last 20$ to pick him up a couple of bags of tortilla chips from $tree though.

Because the basement was draining (all he had to do was tap the pump to get it started...but still not good!) he wasn't able to work down there.

I just spent most of the day in prayer and worship.  Did pull some pantry/freezer items for our supper.  Had meatloaf burgers, cheesy potatoes, green beans with water chestnuts and bamboo shoots, and a piece of the orangesickle cake with some topping. Also dumped some black cherry MIO into our mineral water so we'd have a refreshing drink.  Hubby still hasn't had any diet Dr. Thunder!  How about that!

Need to change all my passwords, but haven't come up with one I like.  Also need to get to work on our circuit breaker tax relief stuff.

Ya know.....iffen the "trees would stop falling on us" we might be able to get something accomplished!  :gaah:

:sigh:  ....it's time to take me to a doc.  My coughing shifted into something different and ....well, I need to check for bronchitis.  I usually wait waaay too long.  The good news:  :amen:    I'm going to abandon our neighborhood clinic I've gone to for 20 yrs and I have appt Wed with the doc that DH has been to.  We like her.....and she had an opening.  New Patient Visit...and me barking like a seal or hacking up a lung.  Good thing I've been in with DH on his visits.  This might be interesting.  I'm getting very worn out and my sleep was interrupted again last nite [3AM this morning]  I did not get back to sleep.   And also later when I was catching a nap.  :gaah:  So....DH was encouraging me to make the appt!!!  Rn did a phone assessment to see if I would be turning blue before Wed.  Told me to do a bunch of stuff I can do.....Honey.  Humidifier. etc.  Told her I was already doing ALL of them.     And STILL I'm getting worse.  She heard my coughing several times...

The fever-chills are mostly gone tho.  DH went to grocery today.  XXL Furrr Friend was delighted to go along!  She's been ....worried?  Depressed?  Dunno.  But she didn't eat for a couple days.  Too sensitive to us.  She's doing better now that DH is better.  He still needs extra rest/sleep.  But he got me Nyquil and Dayquil.  Know I'm getting desperate to take that nasty stuff.  The Dayquil might be working a little...  Laying my back on the chair or the upright hospital bed seems to trigger coughing fits. ??  I sleep leaning sideways into the fully-elevated head-of-bed but maybe I'm shifting in the night?  Propped up by a lot of pillows tho.

Eating a lot more now.  Veggies make me drool!  Both of us.  It's been a looooong week of oatmeal gruel [no milk or other goodies] and ramen [that didn't settle well] and chunky soups.  Jello.  ....But I made fried rice/eggs/veggies for lunch.  Now you're talking!  We haven't been well enough to prepare anything.

WE2..... sooo sorry about your flooding.  What a pain!  And now another expense.  I know you'll know what I meant about "if the trees would stop falling on us...."!!!  You guys have been walking a tightrope too.

MtRider  .....part of me is getting better....except the coughing.  Thanks for prayers!!

Got a call at 6:20 a.m.  My ride for today's three medical appointments, hardware store run, and run to the dump for paint has bailed on me.  Stomach flu.

So DS1 has to lose another day of classes.

Doc found lumps in DH's thyroid also ... just before the knee replacement. Ultrasound verified them. Then biopsy with needles showed one as 'questionable'. After a long story, the surgeon eventually took one side of the thyroid out. Benign. DH wanted his thyroid back!   :24:  It took about a year before his internal thermometer readjusted to the missing organ. It was funny watching him throw off the covers at night, like a woman in menopause.   :happy0203:  After two years, he has settled in to a 'new normal', without medication. And, the knee replacement was a great success!!

Lots of prayer going up for you on upcoming back surgery.  :hug3:

After yesterday's dog washing extravaganza (all three), I ground--grinded?- up 14 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast. Only got a little over 10 pounds ground, so I think there was a lot of water added to the packages.

Today, I am doing laundry, finishing a handwritten timeline of the flood insurance fiasco since it is still not resolved, and taking photos of everything in house. Should have been done long ago, but wasn't. Already been for my walk. I am in shorts and t-shirt today as it will get up to about 73 for a high.

Mt. Rider, I hope you are feeling a little better today!  Remember pineapple juice is very effective for the cough!

Thanks GC, I am going to check that out and try making my own mayo. We do use a lot of it.

Mt Rider.  Hope things get better for you. Been sick to long. time to get well.

Ambergris  Hope all your doctor appts and things went well for you.

Today I worked on garage again. Almost there now. Got most of the cement dust out and off of everything. We threw away a  lot of stuff and was able to empty a lot of boxes full of stuff we didn't know we had. So tightened up what we needed to keep and the rest was trashed.  Worked on it till 6 pm tonight and then went in washed up and fixed us a bowl of homemade veg. beef soup.  Missed grandson's call that he wanted to come spend the night with us. So texted him back a while ago and he's coming tomorrow to spend night. 18 years old and still loves coming to grandma's house. :hapydancsmil: We are cooking collard at market tomorrow morning so that will take part of my day away. But DH is no longer able to do it by him self any longer.  I will help get them washed and in the pot as 6 bushels is a lot of collards. He can stay and keep an eye on them and put seasoning in when ready without me. So I may come home and work awhile and then go pick him up when they are done. Will see how he does after they are washed and in pot before I decide to leave and come home first though.   DH did help me a bit with the garage, so that is a good sign that his energy levels might be starting to pick up a bit. Not for long but even a short time is a good thing.

Maybe while grandson is here, he can help me get pictures on to the post on pantries.  He is good at figuring out those things. He is going to college to be a computer programmer so there you go, put him to work with pictures.

It had been a good 5 years since that garage got a good cleaning. Though the cement dust from driveway replacement didn't help it any. Just a lot more work.

My time is no longer my time it seems and so much I want to do. Haven't had time to sit down and read and I am now behind on my Bible reading as well.  Tomorrow cooking collards,  Thursday we have food ministry, and Friday taken DH for another test. CT scan this time.  No wonder I am getting so tired.

That just about sums it up.  We did go ahead and bite the bullet today and headed to Menards.  Decided we just couldn't take the chance of the basement flooding again and ruining the water heater (even though it's up on blocks) or the back up gas furnace (also up on blocks).  Hubby had some of their rebate coupons and when we got there, they had their "Bag Sale 15% off of everything you could fit in the bag.  We read the printing on the outside and it said "anything that wasn't taller than the bottom size of the bag"...so we gave the cashier the proof...and we got the new sump and all the fittings for 15% off.  He dug out the old well today, and just cut holes in a 5 gallon bucket and sat it down in the new hole.  I'll go into further detail.

We'll surely be eating out of the pantry and freezers even more, but that's okay.  Dug out some hot dogs and a bag of hot dog buns from one of the freezers, so we'll have those for lunch or...perhaps a supper of chili dogs.  Could be both, just separate days!  Fixed a chili rellano casserole for supper tonight...we just never get tired of it.

Great blessing on the 15% off, WE2s!  :amen:

  that Ambergris' meds will handle the seizure issue so she can drive again!  And not have so many other medical appointments!  Sheeesh!

Pineapple juice.....really?  Haven't heard of that.  I've been avoiding dairy [congestion] and acidic [ cuz it's been hard to eat enough to keep stomach full].   So I can keep it in mind for a time when empty stomach would not recoil from pineapple juice.

:amen:   I GOT 10 HOURS OF SLEEP LAST NITE.  Midnight to 10AM.  Lovely.  Got up once for bathroom at 6am.  I would have been glad for even that much.  Right back to sleep.  Woke normally without hacking my lungs out.  And had a nap too....but woke up from that COUGHING.

Already had Nyquil for tonite.   I use it about once a decade but it gets results.  Ready for doc appt tomorrow morning.

NEED to get rest, health, and my BRAINS back.  Making all sorts of errors.  I 'welded' my last enamelware pan to the burner coil tonite.  [others have had similar endings.]  Had to crack it loose with a jerk.  Supposed to be 3 soft-boiled eggs in there.  By the time I smelled it from bedroom, they had charred shells.  STINKO!  :sigh:   So as usual, I run the pan outside and stuff it inside the kettle grill.  Then set up the fans and keep front door open.  DH thinks he's freezing......but we're breathing melted enamel.

MtRider  ......getting tired of coughing and losing my brains!  Hmph!

Did you know that that Pyrex "Cornflower" design casserole dish could be worth booku bucks??? Saw an article online not too long ago. Seems there's a "nostalgia" thing going on and some of those pieces are selling (on eBay) etc for hundreds of dollars. Thought you might like to know - just in case you're in need of some cash (for that sump pump).

MidnightMom, I have a set of those cornflower bowls. Didn't know they were worth anything.  Interesting.

Today went with DH to help him cook collards for market.  Came home to catch up on some things around the house  as gargage clean up kept me out of doing things in the house that needed to be done past couple of days.

Grandson came over and parked where he always does at back of driveway. But i pulled out of garage and backed up to back of driveway like I always do to go forward toward street to leave driveway.  Needless to say, I forgot that his car was parked there and I backed right smack into his back pasinger door.  Dented his door and popped out the fender of my back passinger rear side. So called insurance. We are both covered with no issuses and both will have rental cars. Only $100.00 deductable and will not go against my insurance. So rates will  not go up. So glad of that. But the inconventance for both myself and my grandson sucks.  habits are habits and one I need to break so it won't happen again.

Pyrex "Cornflower" design

Hmmm...I inherited a very nice collection from my mother when she passed.  Nobody else wanted them.  Don't know if I could part with them though. But...thanks for the heads up!  Hubby has a beautiful set of silver flatware...but nobody wants to pay what the set is worth.  Jeweler gave us a "low estimate" of $900 but said it's probably worth more to a collector collection.  Again...who's got those kinds of bucks? Just sayin...

Took ALL the laundry (washed it up early this morning) to the homestead and got it all dried instead of load by load.  Got some weather supposed to be moving back in and I just get too far behind if I do it day by day.  Be glad when we're moved!

Hubby finished getting  the new sump pump in and it's functional.  Not what he wanted it to be, but it's safe now.  I got the paperwork done (draft) for our RE tax relief...will get it on permanent form tomorrow and in mail.  The sooner the better!

Weather turned off very chilly and enough humidity to make everything outside "wet".  Will chill ya to the bone very quick!

Pulled some beef chunks from the freezer and then from the pantry some 'taters, carrots, celery, onions and added some seasonings for supper's "beef stew".  Sure tasted good with homemade bread!

Picked and pressure canned all my mustard greens this morning. Got a plan made for the kid to help me with shed clean out and yard chores tomorrow. May have to postpone because of weather--will see. No electric in shed. Got everything I've received ready for tax lady and paid a bill.

Pyrex.....looked it up.  I didn't realize that the nesting set of bowls in primary colors is Pyrex.  My mom still has her set and I've been collecting a 2nd set from thrift stores thru the years.  I don't have the yellow one yet.  Unfortunately, my mom washed hers in dishwasher and the color is all faded.  DH particularly likes to use them.  Give me UNBREAKABLE stainless steel bowls and SS utensils.  He likes glass and crockery - with wooden utensils.  That's too heavy and breakable for my hands now.  But there is nostalgia.  Cool, Midnight!
