TheCG
Bought groceries and getting sushi, then heading home and staying there until it's above freezing again. Went to the chiropractor, picked up stuff to help the crud. Link to comment
Annarchy
Here's a piece we picked up, really weird stuff. I pulled it and it stretches. .... and it is still falling from the sky...... Link to comment
The WE2's
At first I thought maybe it was "chem trails" gone bad. But stretchy? Yep...weird is a good word, but I'd be careful handling it :-( Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Do you have any plant/tree like cottonwood trees? They float 'stuff' in the air in the spring. No space spiders attached to these strings? Did you make the news yet with this War Of The Worlds invasion? We woke to late morning sunshine....3" of snow....ZERO DEGREES. Within a couple hours another mess of clouds with snow covered us. Snow is tiny bits ....not accumulating a lot. Tooo cold to make big flakes. DH's truck would NOT start...even with starter fluid sprayed into the carburetor. Think we need a different vehicle. My old truck did start and took us down to barnyard to take care of animals. I'd already gotten out and swept porch/stairs/up to goathouse. Then I swept all the way thru horse area to hay shed. Extra hay today. Will feed late again tonite so they have the hay longer into this viciously frigid night. DH got sick late yesterday....so he's eating kim chee soup. [his preference to "chicken soup"] Works for him. He felt ok enough to come down today and feed/water ducks and walk dog while I did horses. Now he's feeling ROTTEN again. Not surprising with all the horrible time we had with vehicles and him working straight after that. He's not young anymore. I think I'm going to take some immune boost and natural Vit C toooo. Breathing heavily in frigid air is not good. ...don't wanna go outside again... Our HIGH was TWO ABOVE. It's 4pm and it's already NINE BELOW ZERO. MtRider ....winter makes me weary! But so glad we didn't get LOTS of snow...and there's no wind. Edited January 5, 2017 by Mt_Rider Link to comment
Jeepers
Wooo-Hoooo. I hit the jackpot. I ordered something from Wal-Mart two days ago where I can go to the store and pick it up to save shipping. Okay, they are canning jars but Wal-mart jars are the cheapest of anywhere around plus I can't find wide mouth pint Kerr jars any place locally. Believe me, I've searched. And I like Kerr jars. So, unbeknownst to me they over charged me. I just got an email from Wal-Mart saying they are refunding my PayPal account....$0.01. A whole penny. I was kinda excited there for a minute. I guess they are just being honest but sheeesh. Link to comment
snapshotmiki
Thank you for the info WE2! I saved it until I can print it. Having printer issues and with the ebay sales, I really need it to work! I think I have a sinus infection and cough with it. I had some of my elderberry syrup/liquer and it shut the cough right down. Made it with fresh elderberries year before last. Didn't get any this year so I may order some dried. Try and stay warm up north! (Really need the printer to work, not the toothpaste) LOL Edited January 6, 2017 by snapshotmiki Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Watch out folks. I've just heard that an Influenza A H1N1 [swine Flu] is getting started. In the SE of US. DH is sick but not a flu. He always has his own variant of "sick" ...and it's rare that it lasts beyond 12 hours. Last time was....4 yrs ago? He rests/sleeps/eats kim chee [garlic and HOT spice] ....and then he's ok. This one has hung on but he's been overly fatigued with all our recent 'challenges'. I finally "woke up" and began taking stuff to prevent me getting it too. MtRider ...... for those who are ill. TheCG
Dagnabbit. Apparently, when I'm sick, I don't really get up and make stuff. I can at least put elderberry tea into the rotation every once in a while. Drinking a LOT of hot tea right now. Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Ya know Jeepers...if we put that windfall from your overpay refund ...with my SS cost-of-living increase....we could have a party! MtRider ....well maybe we could buy one balloon.... Edited January 6, 2017 by Mt_Rider Link to comment
Momo
We have the flu around here. I've never had any flu before and hope my luck holds out. I worry about DH getting it because he has bad lung capacity and a history of getting colds and bronchitis. I will be sweating this out all winter with him. It was spitting snow this am but not accumulating here yet. Further south it is already getting deep. I have a big pot of split pea and ham soup going. Perfect weather for that. I'll probably add some cornbread with it for dinner. DH loves his comfort food. Link to comment
Daylily
Been cleaning house ans watching it snow. We have about an inch. I think east of us is supposed to get the brunt of the storm. The hig tomorrow is supposed to be 18, and on Sunday too. Link to comment
The WE2's
Bundled up today to go pay some bills and had lunch out. Renewed both of our library cards and checked out several dvd movies that we can watch in the evenings. I also like to download books from our libraries on my Kindle reader. Made another batch of yogurt, we enjoy it with our breakfast each morning. Got the truck fixed but mechanic showed Mr where a front tire had started to separate...so add another $400 to the bill for four tires :-( Had to put it on plastic, just no way to do it otherwise. Mt_Rider
Ouch! Unexpected vehicle bills have been on our agenda too. Yet....better to be safe....always! MtRider Link to comment
Homesteader
I have 9 elderberry plants in my temporary nursery. They're remnants from my Indiana garden. If the elderberry syrup doesn't work, I may switch to elderberry wine. Link to comment

The WE2's
Brrrrrr...so we both took our morning showers and bundled up in sweat pants and shirts and just "hung out for the day". Aint nothin' wrong with doin' nothin'... Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Been trying to get malware and viruses outta my laptop. Or....I should say DH has been trying. At least I can open Firefox now. But it's still using up way to much "CPU" percentage. This laptop is only 4 months old and I don't use it for high-usage things like video or whatever. Sure has been slow. Then it began to crash yesterday/today. So...at least I'm able to be here! Both our vehicles refused to start right this morning.....20 BELOW again last nite. But today it NEARLY got above freezing; not just above zero. Shheeeeesh! Pray that we find a new-to-us vehicle. DH's truck is no longer dependable, even if we put $$ into it. .....and we have to get down the mt to LOOK at vehicles. MtRider....flat land is easier...especially in WINTER. Homesteader
Do you have an engine heater for either one of them? DH plugs his in several hours before we use his truck. It's a fairly new vehicle and he wants it to last until our dying days. Link to comment
Mt_Rider
LOL .....on the phone with my mom and she just asked me that too, Homesteader. I do remember having the oil pan heaters when I lived in MN. But haven't heard or thot of them for a long time. Might be a consideration if the insane change in weather up here keeps on. Couple decades ago, when we first moved here, we'd only go below zero a handful of times per season. The "good ole days"! out_of_the_ordinary
Trying to keep the house and (us!) warm. I like cold weather, but not single digits. DD is turning 3! Where did that time go!?! We went grocery shopping yesterday. We weren't up early, so the stores were more crowded that I like. Between people nearly hitting us with their carts because they were texting (at least 8) and then seeing kids now riding in grocery store carts a way I never saw before (The kid sits on top of the cart handle--the part where you hold onto the cart as you push it--with their feet typically where a kids sits, and leans against the adult pushing the cart, as the adult texts or whatever on their phone with one hand). I kept waiting for one of those kids to fall and I'm sure the moron parent would sue the store. I'm not going to go into a tirade on personal responsibility. Go Steelers! Link to comment

Mt_Rider
Trying to figure out the old truck's gas tanks....completely filled the rear one and all the gas got sucked into the front tank [ allegedly the truck can no longer pull gas from front tank.] So DH poured 5 gal from our stash into rear and I used it today. Gauge says front tank is nearly full.....so that's where our missing gas is??? Our mechanic is going to have another go at this next week. Quite confusing. ....and it is now dumping snow for our CHRISTMAS tomorrow. Santa is finally coming to our town! Yet....if it doesn't quit, we won't be able to use my dad's driveway [packs snow down and they slide down their steep driveway with no control] If it's too bad ...we'll have to put our Christmas back YET AGAIN! Aiiiieee! MtRider ...have I mentioned that life has been more than a little nuts lately? Edited January 10, 2017 by Mt_Rider Link to comment
Daylily
I felt like yesterday was a waste as far as getting anything done. DS and I finally walked up the hill to the reservoir and found that it was still full and some water had even come out the overflow pipe so I did two loads of laundry. Sunday was our 45th anniversary so in celebration, we broke out one of the new puzzles DD1 & DSIL got us for Christmas. DD2 fixed us a lovely lunch while we worked on the puzzle. The bitter cold has kept us indoors but it might get up to 39 degrees today. I am deciding on the projects I (we) want to complete in January. These include the 2017 garden plan and seed orders, setting up files for the church (I am the treasurer), setting up an emergency binder and grab & go container, and a household inventory (video and on paper) among other things. snapshotmiki
Went to the doc yesterday. She said I am doing well enough to only have bloodwork once a year now. Today is cooking day. So far made breakfast burrito filling (pico de gallo made a few days ago), meatball casserole, fire cider (not ready to use for a month) and now DH wants a chocolate cake of some type. So back to it! Have a good day, you all! Link to comment
