YouTube and Google. How did we ever get along without them??? :24:

I guess I just stayed dumb as a box of rocks. Ignorance was bliss back then. I didn't know that I didn't know what I was supposed to know.

We had less stress and fewer expectations on us. We looked up stuff in the library card catalog. The library that we had to walk to. We would scan the card catalog hoping no one else had the drawer pulled out hogging up the alphabet letter we needed and then hoped someone else hadn't checked out THE book. If it wasn't in our school textbooks then by golly, we didn't need to know it! Of course back then new information only came out about once a decade...just in time for the new text book rentals.  :D

Woe to the classes who got the brand new books. If there was a mark or dog ear in that book you were responsible. That went on your "Permanent Record". Everything was threatened to go against your "Permanent Record." Crimony, we didn't even have computers then. I wonder who got the task of copying all of those records into a computer? I'd imagine some of those "Permanent Records" were pretty thick. Just sayin'.  :whistling:

See what you started Midnightmom. Now I'll be up all night worrying about where my "Permanent Records" are.

PERMANENT RECORD...dun, dun, dun, dun. (dramatic music for special effects)

I'm thinking it is in a very secure cement vault buried somewhere under the Denver airport.

Second guess would be The Greenbrier Resort and Bunker in West Virginia.

Followed by inside the left paw of the Sphinx.

Oh yes...I'm on it.

RESTING!  :0327:

Our voyage into town yesterday wore out both me and DH!!!  DH did chores today...walking Koa.  She's attacking something...pasture rodent??  Grasshopper??? Nooooo....  DH's eyes widen when she tossed a SNAKE into the air.  Aiieeee!

We have two types of snakes right in our location....neither poisonous.  But snakes are snakes and I do NOT ABIDE SNAKES.  {shudder}

He made her leave it alone.....and I wanted to know EXACTLY WHERE that vile creature was....  Aiiieeee!

MtRider  ....resting!  :pc_coffee:

Went to the lake yesterday.

Gunny had a blast swimming.  He even dove underwater to get his rope duck a few times and jumped off a large rock into the water.  The only mistake I made was swimming with him.  I now have claw marks on my arms and legs.  Grrr chased minnows all day and we did a little diving.  The visibility was only about 1/2 a foot.  Gunky greenish water and semi warm.  The thermocline was about 6 foot deep. Came home and sat outside under the misting system.  It was a nice quiet day of rest for us.

Today, I have been preparing for next weeks trip to visit MIL.  DH is going this month, because next month is the beginning of her Chamber & Woman's club meetings and I have to be there.

Other than that, worked a little here, update/upgraded our forum.  Now, I need to continue reading up on all the various changes in the programming.  :scratchhead:

Not much.  One of the umbrella arms of my clothesline collapsed so I couldn't finish doing bathroom linens or sheets...grrr.  I had just finished hanging the last of our regular laundry when it tuckered out but Mr was here to help tie it up temporarilty so I could let them dry and not have to take them all down!  Put some more tomatoes in the deep freeze and jarred up a pint of jalapeno's.  Just using my little pressure canner and using the same methods...vent for 10, pressure 10# for  10 minutes.  Sealed just fine.  No mega canning sessions until tomatoes, zucchini and yellow squash are ready.

Yay!  Got home today and I have to say that Mississippi seems more like home than my hometown.  It has grown so, so much!  All businesses and strip malls.  Not a cow to be seen anymore!  Even my Church is like a mega church now.  Only knew 3 people there.  We came back two days early and still had time to go to the big flea market (got a Himalayan salt lamp and a couple new knives), go to the beach and go to a movie and of course to eat a few times.  We were busy at the packing Monday and got it done, then decided to leave Tuesday morning.  Only thing problematic was that the lady moving and my friend decided to take her dog with us.  She says it is a lab/ridgeback mix but I know what a lab looks like and that's no lab!  He is either mastiff/ ridgeback or pittie/ ridgeback if there is any ridgeback in him.  I didn't see any ridge at all.  He is beautiful but his youth is unknown.  Very sweet to all of us and then two nights ago I was talking to him about changes and said "you're going to see new things, meet new puppies and maybe some kitties" and when I said kitties, he started snarling and before I could even move he had bitten me pretty good.  Startled the heck out of me and my friend was standing there when it happened.  So apparently he has trigger words from when he was younger.  I know he felt bad after he did it as he went in another room and put his head under the cushions of a chair.  He was fine after and I was cautious but friendly.  Last night at the motel, he jumped up between my friend and I and slept with his head on my hip all night.  Here's the thing.  My friend has small grandchildren.  It is sad but I don't think he is going to fit in as I can't imagine her trusting him with them at all.  I am actually glad that it happened rather than finding out at the expense of her grandkids.  I will call her in a couple of days and see how it is going.  He has other issues also such as now waving your hands in front of him and children can't run around near him.  I just don't see it working.  He is current on his shots and I keep dumping peroxide on it.  There is a big bruise and getting bigger but no redness at all with just a little swelling.  So that was enough excitement for me and I am so happy to be home with DH, my pups and the little goats!  I am supposed to go with my friend back to FL in October for vacation and visiting so we will see if that happens.

I think I'll try to get some sleep now as it hasn't come easily while I was gone!  Good night all!

Goodness, Miki!  ....I'm glad you weren't injured more badly than a single bite.  As bad as that can be.... Definitely wouldn't trust small children around this 'unknown-past' large dog.  :o

I played "zoo" tonite.  My friend's grands were with her and they came over for feeding time.  Saw ducks come in from pond and 9 yr old got to pour out their food.  4 yr old was quite amused at duckies.  Grabbed my goat on a leash and they tried to feed her but only got to scratch some of her itchy spots.  LOL  And 9 yr old got to feed piggy big horse handfuls of grass over the fence....while my old horse had her extra meal.

DH took too-big-and-boisterous Koa on her walk during all that.  Kids are too small and she STILL flails her front feet.  Loves meeting everyone but....  Can't get her socialized if I never see anyone....

And then we all dashed to our vehicles cuz the slight sprinkles became RAIN...again.

This week has been awful so far.  Hopefully it ends better than it started.

I had to go to the ER for the first time in  my life.  My hip/upper thigh was killing me.  The pain was unbearable. They had to use 3 injected types of painkillers before I got any relief. Apparently demerol doesn't work on me.  Dilaudid finally gave me some relief. They took x rays and a ct scan.  I had never had a scan before.  Anyhow they said my back is in terrible shape and i will need surgery.  This was a shock to me since I never had a hint of back trouble.  Of course, I have to go to a specialist to be sure. I am dreading dealing with this but it has to be done. I never hurt so much in my life!

After a pleasant weather wise week it is back to hot and humid summer today.  We enjoyed our respite.

The garden is slowing down. The only thing still going is the tomatoes.

We had a major water leak so I am dreading my water bill.  I'll also be having Dr. and dentist bills too. Grrr.

Sheeesh Momo, when it rains it pours.  :hug3:

I had a leak on my toilet where the pipe comes out of the wall, and the water hose attaches, a few years ago. Actually it was around the turn off/off valve. I kept a bucket under it for a couple of days until my son could get over and fix it. When I got my bill I was shocked. And not in a good way. Of course I have to pay 3 water bills here. My town, my county and a sewer bill. I really got hammered that month.

Sending up prayers for SueC's family, Momo's family, Mt.Rider's family, Ambergris' family and Snowmom's family and for anyone else in our Mrs. Survival family who needs them! This has been a very trying year for a lot of us.

If I didn't mention anyone...it wasn't on purpose! You all know my memory by now. :sigh:

I've never heard of such a thing!!! :o Do you have 3 different connections to 3 different sources??? Does your property straddle some city/county boundary? Why can't one entity collect one payment and split the bill there? Soooooooooooo many questions. I hope I'm not being too "nosey."

Link to comment

Not nosey at all. I mentioned it.  :)

It's only one water source and I don't straddle any boundary lines. I'm in Cuyahoga County Ohio. It boarders on Lake Erie which is where our water comes from. When I first moved here we just had to pay a water bill from the county. Then we had to start paying our town too. Something about an extra processing fee. Then, we had to start paying an extra fee for sewage processing.  Our town wants to start combining our two city bills into one statement so it will look like we are 'only' paying for two water bills instead of three. I guess even they were getting embarrassed.

My water source is big old Lake Erie and about 10 miles away, as the crow flies.

So I pay;  county water, town water fee and town sewage water fee.  Every stinkin' month.

Ugh.....woke during the morning with a headache.  Rolled over and successfully went back to sleep a couple times.  But eventually got up at 9:30.  DH had been up...started pellet stove cuz it's freezing before sun is up....and went back to sleep.  This whole day wraps around the fact that it's his second day back to work.

I'd regretfully decided yesterday that I couldn't afford the energy expenditure to go to my friend's memorial service.  { I hadn't even THOT of getting over heated in the packed church....aiiee }  But since I was up, Koa and I got dressed and went down to feed.  Normally DH does this but....he can't afford the energy expenditure before he has to survive a long day at work.  :0327:   So I fed old horse and ducks and let goat out.  Then....because I couldn't afford the energy expenditure AND it was getting HOT  :knary:  ....I drove down to our dead-end road to run the dog.

Ahem.....I'm seeing a definite pattern to life right now.  Two things rule all......DON'T GET TOO HOT and  CAREFULLY MONITOR ENERGY EXPENDITURE!!!!

Sounds a lot like SURVIVAL BASICS to me.  :sigh:

DH was fine at work yesterday.  Notices more O2 in that town at a slightly lower altitude.  Only about 600 ft difference.   We'll take it.  Coworker said he looked like he came back too early.  Rolled out the chair for him to sit when not operating the till.  They know he doesn't slack without reason.  { I told him to wear the name tag of another young coworker....who everyone knows does slack all the time...LOL }  He's also training a new guy on procedures for the closing shift....which means he supervises and the other guy does the mopping, etc.  Thank You, God...for that provision!

Then Sunday-Mon....we go in to my parent's for visit with Bro/niece.  Tues is DH's first primary doctor appointment.....finally.  But we'll visit after that too.  They fly home Wed so DH and I will stay home for him to rest.  Cuz he's on the schedule for Th-Fri-Sat working.

The good part is that 1) we're a low key family.  Talking, laughing, eating.  And DH can got to lay down in basement bedroom if he needs {likely} nap.  Or me too.  2)  he'll be spending large parts of the next 4 days at slightly lower altitude.

MtRider  ....just surviving.....

boxes, bins, totes and crates
                         hectic packing, watching dates.
as the closing time grows nearer
                                                                                it is getting ever clearer:
no matter how i huff and puff...

i have just got too much stuff!                       :runcirclsmiley2:

The house is sold!    $25,000 cash down, we stay & pack until Nov closing and receipt of $30,000 cash.

That way in Sept we can go down & pick land and mobile home (new) and put down $20,000 so we can move directly in (saving a bundle by NOT having to store our stuff and rent a campsite while we arrange our new digs).  $55,000 is reasonable price for our older home in current market and the cash makes it soooooo much less complicated!

Yay kappy! We are packing (again) too. Got rid of over a third of our stuff last year....and still getting rid of more this time around. I hate moving. I've decided to become a minimalist.

Way to go Kappy!  :cele:

I went looking for a food processor today. I looked them over online to get reviews but when I went shopping for them either the prices were different or else they didn't have the correct model. So, I bit the bullet and ordered one from Amazon. I've never had one. Not even a little one. There have been a lot of times I would really have liked one. I do a lot to slicing and dicing especially at dehydrating and canning time. I put it in my wish list two weeks ago and the price had dropped by almost $9.00. Yeah, I'm probably justifying the purchase. That happens to me all of the time though. If I think I want a high priced (to me) item I always put it in my wish list at Amazon for a week or two. 9 times out of 10 the price will drop by a small percentage.

I also ordered some mesh screens for the dehydrator. Next week I want to dig it out and dry some raspberries. I thought they were over with but my grocery store had tons of them yesterday. I wish they had some of the purple ones. They were all the red ones. I'll check out some of the fruit/veggie markets when the screens get here. I'd like to mix the two different colors in the jar. It'd be purdy.

Then I went to Lowes and dumped off another grocery sack of books in the book recycle bin in their parking lot. They have two big bins about the size of an apartment dumpster and they both were nearly full. Either a lot of people are donating books or else they don't empty them very often. A sign on the front said they don't take school books. Don't know why though. I'm liable to have a couple more bags by the time I'm finished going through them all.

Sheeesh, I'm moving to Wisc.....those are very decent home prices.  We've seen photos of your WI place and it's nice!!  VERRRRRRRY LOW $$ compared to CO!!!!

Dogmom.....you're moving AGAIN?  Sheesh, that's gotta turn the summer upside down again for you.  Did you find a place to stay awhile this time?  :(

I did all the chores and such this morning....  :0327: DH canNOT work 2 days in a row.  He was destroyed and could hardly drive us in to my folks' today.   Now I feel destroyed!  Just asked DH if he caught the license number of the MacTruck that 'runned over us'!   Auugh.  Nice day after we finally got there to visit...had supper and came home.  I'd set up animals so I hopped out of car when we arrived and poured duck food from a container I'd stashed in the car.  Shut them in and then continue up to house.  Then just had to let dog out back door to piddle yard.

Answer to prayer:  Ran out of straw for duckhouse today.  As I ran all over...chores, cat litter box, run dog with car, load car with essentials for today....I wondered how I could get bales of straw from the village.  Then neighbor/friend W called to say he was heading to the village and then stop by our house to pick up some duck eggs.

:happy0203:

"Can you do us a big favor?  Drive your truck in and grab 2 bales of straw for us at the feed store?"  Yessss!  Thank you W and God for this solution in our current situation.  :amen:

Hey.....this must be the time for our METEOR SHOWERS!  DH and I both caught sight of one so before bed [now] we went out to sit in the dark and watch.  Spotted several....couple long ones.  :hapydancsmil:  I love to be amazed by God's creation!

MtRider ....hanging in there....

Yep again. We knew we were only going to be here a year so it's not so bad. This time though the lease works so there is overlap. We have two days to move stuff and won't need to put anything in storage. Moving is just no fun no matter how much stuff you've gotten rid of....
